Player watch: Christian Eriksen

When you’re the sole creative midfielder in a team of peak in-form Dele/Son/Kane and you take almost every corner/free kick, would you not expect lots of goals and assists?

His stats are good but they’re completely without context. He’s had no competition, never injured because he never puts himself out and playing in a free-scoring team.

Kane is very much a player that could guarantee a midfielder assists - this is overlooked sometimes.

If Eriksen goes now, I'll give him props for that. He could get a massive sign on fee if he just waits 5 more months, going now shows it's not about the money.

Lets say it is about money and I dont think it is but lets say it is - so what? We have Vertonghen here who has provided great service and us fans are happy to get rid because he is past it... what im saying is if we dont owe players who have provided good/great service to us.... what do players owe us? nothing...

David Silva and De Bruyne have had better players around them and ultra free-scoring teams so are we disregarding their assist stats too?

Sounds a bit 'didn't fancy her anyway'...

The implication was that this is not the best team in decades. Because we never won a trophy. Are people seriously saying that the 90's Tottenham was better than under Poch just because they won a cup? Or that winning the league cup under Graham was a better team? Winning trophies doesn't mean your the best, it doesn't necessarily mean you're very good. League position is a more accurate gauge on how good a team has consistently been.
No argument from me. However, was pochettino successful with this 'best team' or not? I dont for a minute think the football between the generations.is comparable though. Nor the coaches.

However, for me and many, history is the ultimate judge of success, fact remains, noone remembers second place apart from those who were there.

But back on track, Eriksen (of 1 year ago) will be a big miss and I dont understand the vitriol. He signed for 4 years and has fulfilled a contract. Look at his personal performances at the club overall and he had been an excellent servant. He has also suffered with the lack of squad investment, it's no surprises he was better when there was a proper CM and wingbacks to help out.

He hasn't even gone and I already miss him

It's a shame he doesn't get the appreciation for quite how good he's been in some quarters

And while he hasn't hit the heights this year, both JM and Poch haven't a bad word to say about his character or approach

I'm just going to savour the memories and cut him slack as a fellow human being, who made it clear he wanted to go in the summer and was possibly stymied by Levy's silly demands

i have been going home and away to Tottenham for the best part of 20 years. What I feel sets spurs apart from other fan bases is our ability to support players to try and make them succeed - players like Jansen should never have been a fans favourite but he was - why- because he gave his absolute everything, you couldnt question his commitment and spurs fans appreciate that above all else.
that’s where Eriksen has now gone wrong. When his form started to drop fans gave him the continued support, despite him not signing and all the rumours us fans still chanted his name. He has slowly got worse to the point he just doesn’t try, he is not committed and that is something we as fans will not tolerate at our club.
That’s why in my opinion he is now finding the boos coming his way and why he needs to vacate immediately

The latest from Italy:

Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio arrived in London last night to "finish" negotiations for Giroud and Eriksen. Sources differ in their reports but most claim that we've upped our initial offer to around €15m.

Seems like the deal is close to being done but with Inter you never know.

But I thought all of his corners were awful as he hits the first man every time? And people keep saying he should be taken off free kicks as well.

Last season:
Dele 3
Sissoko 3
Winks 0
Eriksen 12

He doesn't really seem to guarantee assists for anyone but Eriksen. And can we use those same arguments against KDB as he plays in a free scoring team and he's got Aguero to pass to?

I really don't get this need to revise his achievements here.

Oh ffs is he still here?
Everytime I see another post has been added I take a look at this thread to see if its done and nope, nothing.
No more posts unless he's gone please. Then we can slag him off proper lol.

They're experiencing the 3rd stage of grief.

Exactly.

Eriksen has been a truly amazing player for us. Just because performances his performances have dipped he shouldn't carry the can for the whole team underperforming. I find some of the criticism of him pretty childish. He's seen out his contract and wants to try something new, I really don't see the problem. He is under no obligation to sign another one.

Or maybe he isn't 'trying' any less than before? Maybe the whole team has been underperforming and fans are scrutinising him because he dared to say he wanted to leave?

Eriksen was never one to tear around the pitch flying into tackles. At his best he was our creative metronome - always available for a pass, always finding runners with cute passes and with the ability to pop up with goal. All fans seem to acknowledge we have been dysfunctional this season. Various facets of the team have not been performing. For a player who is conduit and needs players making runs and to intuitively know where others are on the pitch do you not think an overall dysfuntional team will have bearing on his performances?

It's got to the point that fans are pinning everything that has gone wrong this season on Eriksen which is just ridiculous.

Looks like this is edging closer judging by the volume of reports. The two gentlemen that sit behind me in Paxton Upper will be very happy “Twinkle toes” is off. They’ll now probably have the worry of who next to direct their toxic venom...

Personally, I’ve enjoyed watching Eriksen over the years. His quality cannot be questioned, it’s just a shame that it had to end this way. I wish him all the best.

I know we could have sold him for a lot more if he had longer on his contract, or if he left sooner - but we paid a tiny amount for him and with his goals and assists he has repaid that a thousand times over. It's easy to aim vitriol at him, but he's been here however long now, he wants to experience something else and maybe even... Win something...

His performances haven't been good, but the whole team has been mostly shite since January last year. Maybe they go hand-in-hand and maybe we're going to find it harder than we think to move on from Eriksen. Idk

Don’t agree at all

very simply - if he was performing like he is now 3 seasons ago he would be exactly the same scrutiny.
apparently we couldn’t create without Eriksen seasons ago - they were the comments, you can’t now say he can’t play because others aren’t running

I don’t pin everything on eriksen And nor do the fans around me - but maybe his lack of commitment and attitude have rubbed off. That’s why I believe he needs to leave immediately and should have a fair few months ago already

Who currently in the team is performing to the same level they were 3 years ago?
