dragon1 on koulibaly: The special one insists he’s the one , incredible how much levy buys into the Jose myth , getting levy to lump it on a 28 year old

also says 'not true' that its not happening/fee too high

Thanks Dova. I'll still be amazed if this comes off.

"Jose myth" hmmmm, only one of the most successful managers in modern football

Would be truly amazing to sign a great player in a January window for once

KK would be great, but I honestly think that money is better spent elsewhere. Alderweireld - Sanchez (I like how Sanchez have been looking under Mourinho) is not brilliant, but OK.

80-100m should bring in someone like Aarons and a decent CM/DM.

I get the feeling Dragon isn’t keen on Jose. But If he’s managed to get levy to open the purse strings for someone in their late twenties then that’s some achievement.

Make no mistake, Koulibaly is an elite CB. One of the best in the world. He could have Van Dijk type of impact for us BUT crucially it's not as if Sanchez or Toby have been playing poorly, there is just no protection in front of them.

It seems like the rumour is gathering pace but I'm a little concerned of how much we're going to splash out on him that could prevent us from signing other players in positions of higher need.

He is in my view the best defender in the world along with VVD but surprised with this ITK. If the fee is ok and he will buy a 28 year old then so be it just hope that’s not our whole transfer budget.

That’s promising. He’s a physically formidable player, reasonably quick for a CB and won’t be bullied in the way our centre backs seem to. If we can get 4-5 years out of him, you can see the sense in laying out good money to fix a big problem

José would probably want Matic as well as a cheap signing, leaving us with a very solid spine.
In my opinion being that solid there will also make it easier for other players - like the full backs and Winks if he is to play next to an anchor.

I don't agree that Alderweireld and Sanchez is a good pairing, I think they are good enough individually, but see them compete for the same position in the team. Koulibaly would be a definite starter.

Don’t do it to yourselves boys
Fuck me, is it mandatory for someone to post this every time we're linked to a big name? It's boring as shit.

Maybe the transfer isn't gonna happen (most likely not), but it's a lot more fun than being linked to the Jarrod Bowens of this world, isn't it? Just enjoy the fucking ride. Que sera sera.

I just hope this doesn’t mean our entire transfer budget

IMO we'd be blowing a huge chunk of our budget on an area that is nowhere near our biggest priority. DM and fullbacks would make us a much more solid team, whereas Koulibaly would maybe enable us to carry on playing like utter shit but not concede quite as many goals.

I don't think they have been anymore than terribly average this season. They are both making errors regularly , Toby probably more so than Sanchez

If Koulibaly is available and wants us, go get him. I don't care if he's not a priority position for a signing, he's a Van Dijk esque signing that will immediately improve us 10 fold. Absolute world class player.
