I would back this whole situation more if we got Campos in.

I dont trust Mourinho's recent transfer record so to get Campos in would be a good move. Hopefully leave us in less of a mess when Mourinho ultimately turns sour.

I also want this guy I only heard of this morning also

True, often the success is more about convincing a young Bale that we are the right club for him.

But there are players like Kante who can be bought under the radar.
I agree but that was for Leicester who weren’t a top half of the table team at the time. He would never had gone from his team in France to Chelsea or any other top team as they need the finished article and not rough diamonds.

He's the guy I was on about at the beginning of October:
He's being tenuously linked to Man Utd, but I cannot fathom how we are expecting to get the right players in without someone like this:

I thought that Steve Hitchen was going to turn out to be taking this sort of role on, so either we're not hearing about it, or it's not happening.

The only issue is that it potentially goes against the "Back the Manager" and "Get who Poch wants" shtick somewhat. I can't really see how the 'Sporting Director' thing works in conjunction with the 'Manager' role - it seems like a paradox, unless they both sing from the same hymn sheet.

I think we need it, though.

It's far more plausible/workable now Poch has gone, which I wasn't expecting at the time.

A Sporting Director/DOF will be coming in.

Obvious part is that we've named him "Head Coach". You generally only get that when someone else comes in as SD/DOF.

Am I right in thinking that he wanted that at United? I know they've spent forever cocking about with trying to get someone to do it.

Apparently Campos was suggested for Utd.

Considering Campos found some players we've been priced out of in the past, I imagine Levy welcomed the idea

It is only ‘if’ DL is prepared to let go, otherwise there is great difficulty with DoF
If Jose wants a DOF, which seems possible, then surely it would have been one of the stipulations of him coming. Transfers in general I can imagine were a big part of that discussion.

Yeah feel like his job title signalled it.

This is based on previous knowledge of Daniel's control with Mauricio I assume? More of a question than a remark. I get the sense that Daniel loves playing the Jerry Jones role.

I think the summer of the Bale sale is closest to how having a DoF would look for us now, i.e. Levy says "there's this much money available" and the DoF gets the deals done. A couple of the transfers didn't work out but Baldini got those deals wrapped up efficiently.

Depends if it’s a transfer director of football or one that isn’t involved in that, like Trix has previously mentioned Baldini was.
