I wasn't comparing the two. I was pointing out that running about is pointless in itself.

Fundamentally this is true. No one would run after the ball in a game more than a Yorkshire Terrier, but dogs are pretty shit at football.

True but I find this idea that Eriksen runs a lot but with no purpose to be incorrect. When we were playing the highpress successfully it was because our front four all put in a shift. I find it wrong to suggest Eriksen was never part of this.

I've seen it all now. People criticising our most agressive do or die player for not putting his effort in the right place. Some of you are fucking depressing.

A "do or die" player? By no stretch of the imagination was his defending do or die against Brighton. If that amount of effort is all it takes to get people springing to his defence, it's no wonder we're so far off the pace.

Ok so he made one error against Brighton which led to a goal.

Can you provide the other examples of his lack of effort to substantiate your point or is your judgement based on this one example over the last five years?

No but it takes more than one moment, for any reasonable fan, to call for him to be dropped.

There was a lot to complain about in that match, for you to be slating Lamela in such a manner seems odd.

That has been true, but too often his running stats are used to excuse performances where he doesn't press, tackle or otherwise show any commitment.

As per Serge's recent comments, I expect Eriksen stopped being committed some time last season - probably at whatever point he expected a move to be on the horizon. That won't affect his running, but it'll affect his tenacity etc, which is why stats don't really tell us a full story of what we can observe.

Two errors. You're forgetting the second goal when he and Sissoko failed to stop another cross.

What's odd about complaining when one of our players does't do his job properly?

Did you not call for him to be dropped for lack of effort?
He's one of our most committed players and I find it odd to consider dropping him because of one and a half mistakes, during a game where to rest of the team were terrible.

No, I don't think I said he should be dropped. I just think he could - and should - have done more to stop the two crosses that led to the first and second goals. I didn't realise that would be so controversial.

I think what oeople are struggling is the way you are going on and on about an attacking midfielder who works hard failing to block a cross.

You write like he doesn't put in any effort or is the laziest player in our team.

Just across like your negativity towards him in based on your view of him as a player rather a true analysis of his performances this season.

I agree specifically with the first cross. At the time I was swearing at Lamela for letting the guy take a touch and cross it and not even trying to stop him. Nowhere near as shocking as Lloris was though once it got to him! Over the whole game I'd say Lamela, Sissoko, Moura and Winks were the only ones who really put any effort in, and two of them were not starters.

Attacking midfielders still have to defend. And working hard means blocking crosses, not standing and watching. That’s the kind of effort that’s needed.

Well yes but Lamela does put in a shift. The incident you are going on and on and on about was him chasing back to our right back position and failing to block a cross.

Hardly a case of standing around.

Define putting in a shift. Because if it doesn’t include blocking crosses, it’s not really worth all that much.
