He had a terrible game, but we can't overlook the fact that he's being asked to play way beyond what he should be asked to do. Break up play, sit deep, dictate play quickly, get forward, drop back and cover spaces left by the fullbacks. Honestly, I think the only player capable of doing that anywhere near consistently is Kante. Winks is a fine player, but he's no Kante.

Had a bad game but on his day is class..definitely not a big issue like some others
I completely disagree. He adds little to nothing in defense or attack. I truly believe he is a huge part of our current issues. He should be Ndombeles back up, nothing more nothing less.

He tries really hard and he doesn’t lose the ball (most of the time) and people act like he’s crucial to our play. I don’t get it.

Play him him the last 25 min of the game after Ndombele is gassed or something. This isn’t working. We have generally the same squad who has played some incredible football the past 5 years and all the sudden with Winks and Sissoko it’s gonna to complete shit, I see that as no coincidence at all.

Don't want to write him off after one performance, but it seems like he does one thing really well (receive the ball under pressure, turn, and keep the ball circulating), and he did terribly at it today. Against teams that sit back, his bad performances can be explained by the fact that no one ever presses him, which negates his skill set. But tonight? Can't really explain what went wrong.

He's done well in big games before for us though (I'm thinking of Real Madrid a couple of years ago), and I'm hoping that this performance was just an aberration.

Just don’t think he’s got a role and sadly that’s not what he need he’s got no standout position

he’s not a number 8 as he doesn’t get box to box quick enough

he’s not a 6 as he doesn’t win the ball back enough nor does he have the long pass in his locker

he’s not a 10 so what exactly is he?

a player that probably suits a 4–3-3

He works hard, tries but where is the actual quality? Doesn't contribute much attacking wise, doesn't help us control games in midfield or act as a pressure release, defensive awareness isn't particularly good. Is mobile, works hard, lots of short passes with a decent long pass now and again but that is pretty much your lot.......simply not enough to be a regular for us in the team.

I personally think our best option (if all players are fit), remains an inverted triangle in midfield with Dier (or a fit/capable DM) sitting deep with Ndombele and Lo Celso in front. In that situation, Winks would be the backup to Ndombele in more of "Regista" role. He's not got the incisive pass of an Ndombele, and Ndombele is more capable of working between the midfield and attack given his on the ball skills, but I could see Winks being more than serviceable in that role, should he have the protection behind him.

So people are finally seeing what I’ve been saying all along?

He’s just bang average yet Poch thinks he’s fucking Pirlo. I said in the summer it will be the end of Pooch h his love affair for Winks and it’s happening.

How many times did he lose possession and get his pocket picked?

Poch plays the guy as DM but he can’t defend and he can’t attack.

So Overrated by spurs fans it’s unreal.

Just like cuking clockwork, anyone would think you enjoy bashing our players.

Quite how you've pointed the finger at him when all of our players bar Ndombele were absolutely trash...but I guess agendas and all that, you crack on...(y)

Because he’s just not very good. Most of our other players actually are good enough to play for us regularly.

I don’t like bashing Winks, I’ve been saying I don’t rate him all along. I’m consistent with my view.

Maybe he will be good enough one day but it won’t be under Poch who plays him as a DM ffs. He can’t defend he can’t attack. He’s a nothing player.

It’s ok you can say I’m right for once, it won’t kill you. ??

Really poor game by him tonight. Continued to get in trouble on the ball which lead to numerous chances for Bayern. Have to concur with a previous poster and say I don’t think he would get in any other top 6 team so shouldn’t be an automatic starter for us.

It wasn't his best game grated and he would've learnt loads he got caught on the ball and was hunted down, he was forced to play on the half turn and i will say Poch tactically was poor in this game.

For me you cannot judge Winks until we start playing a 4-2-3-1 again and see if a combo of him and Ndombele works and if not then Dier comes in.

He is the second player of a double pivot. Essentially. He plays the same position as Dembele and Sissoko, though in a very different way. He is not a number 6. Play him with a more defensive player and you will see him get further forward,

I was just having this debate in my head...I’m not entirely sure where I see Winks fitting. He wouldn’t work in partnership with Ndombele because he’s not a defensive midfielder.

I have to be honest...I don’t have an agenda against Winks but... I genuinely don’t see the fuss about him?

I can’t say I’m entirely sure what we’d miss if he suddenly got injured or dropped from the team?

I’d happily be proven wrong and of course I appreciate he loves the club, but aside from sideways passes and occasional flashes of nice dribbling, what else does he bring?

He’s in the team right now as a holding midfielder and he does anything but that? For most of the game he wanders well out of position and exposes our defence.

As I said, I really like Winks and I don’t hate him as a footballer, I just can’t see what others do when it comes to what he actually brings to our team...

I just sort of get the feeling he’s a Poch pet project similarly to how Mason was.
