Here are Trippier’s actual quotes:

“I just feel that Tottenham probably got rid of me at the wrong time,” he said. “I just needed that four-week rest for recovery because I was struggling with injuries to come back, fresh, ready

“It’s disappointing. I gave everything for the club and I wanted to stay. I had another couple of years left. But everything happens for a reason.

“I heard rumours about them selling me and it’s not nice.

“At the time, we were going through the Champions League campaign - Manchester City, Ajax away.
“I spoke to my wife and I spoke to my brother who I speak to all the time, and decided it wasn’t the right time and I would pull the manager in pre-season to see what’s going on.
“I tried to speak to the chairman about it and when I spoke to the manager about his plans and I didn’t get a yes and I didn’t get a no. So you get the impression…
“Me and the manager didn’t leave on bad terms, he has done a lot for me and I respect him highly

My performances started after Christmas because I thought I had an okay first-half of the season if I'm honest,” he said. “Then it was just like a car crash. It just went 'bang'. Things weren't going my way, I wasn't playing well.

You try to pull yourself out of it and when things are not going right for you week after week, it’s difficult. It’s emotionally draining.
“Sometimes I was thinking ‘God, I just wish the season was over’. But I kept on going and tried to do my best.”

“I think he can take me to the next level,” he said. “For a defender I don't think there's a better place in the world to be.”

To summarise he felt he had more to give the club but acknowledges his form last season was poor.

He wanted to stay but no one gave him a straight answer on whether he was to be sold.

Now he is at Atletico he wants to improve and move onto a new level.

Other than the Express using ridiculous interpretations I can’t see anything to get upset about here.

Absolutely nothing to get upset about but as usual silly fans read stuff that are taken way out of context and accept those quotes as gospel truth.

I personally feel a lot of our fans were very quick to jump on his back. He did struggle last year but as fate would have it we really could do with him now.

I feel for Tripps as he clearly has had his professional pride hurt by last season - actually respect him that he clearly feels he left on the wrong note. He had some great moments - Madrid game in the CL was a highlight

Ultimately he was signed as Walkers understudy and got found out when he was the main man for a side that had been challenging the top

Ultimately though he is not the only player whose standard have slipped materially since 2017 but he was one of our worst players last year by a long way and we got pretty decent mo way for him

Ah, an unlocked Trippier thread where I can 100% say yes, Kieran, you were right.

Some funny-ass replies in here too... lets hope we learned a lesson, eh? He's been phenomenal for the Toon, deserves a lot of credit.
