People saying we don't pass it forward enough are not watching the game. I'd implore a lot of you to not follow the ball in a lot of these matches and watch what the front four are doing.

You just see a narrow bunch doing random things, all playing up against the defence, hidden behind the opposition midfield, walking not finding space, and waiting for the ball to be progressed into the final third before we try to do some random individual stuff to pick the lock. Often it's fucking impossible to try and find them.

It will be a torturous struggle to break teams down with such a lack of attacking idea and drilled ways to construct possession and attacks, its a massive oversight we need to do much better at.
It’s like we’re trying to play like Liverpool as their front 3 are often bunched together.

Except we’re not playing with the pace, pressing or running.

Eriksen and or Lo Celso must come on.

I get that Pochettino wants to send a message by not playing Eriksen but the truth is that we once again look rather poor without him.

I love Cocos attitude but he's not the right player to play in the hole against s team that sit deep.

Just come home and fortunately, the first half hasn’t recorded so I don’t have to watch it. Losing 1-0 to Newcastle...nothing good must of happened.

There is something wrong at our club. Has been for some time. The style has gone, the passion has gone.

Big half coming up.
Yeah - it did not feel right in the warm up either.

It’s pretty uninspired stuff. Slow and very predictable. We’ve always had problems with penetration against sides that sit deep, but there’s a lack of energy as well as no creativity.

Newcastle look a totally different side than they did against Arsenal. They had zero energy that day. Today it’s us. I’m loath to blame the heat. We should be fitter than they are.
We create this mess regularly by playing with no tempo and allowing other teams to feel there way into matches. We haven't put them under enough pressure from the start. They have let us have it in our own half yet I've still lost count on the number of occasions we've made passes square when not even faced with an opponent in our own half. We dont get it forward quick enough.

I used to love seeing us play these types of teams at home, but slowly over the past season or more I have grown to hate them more than City or Chelsea away.

All too reminiscent of how many umpteenth first half's that have preceded.

We turn games round through individual brilliance as opposed to a game plan that's been carried out to a T and quite frankly, I couldn't tell you what a Poch team stands for or what style of play it should adopt.

Standards are now looking to be set higher than we have been accustomed yet even the pre requisite 'Poch press' is a disjointed horlicks and despite this team being together for years, they are playing like strangers.

People won't like this and it's certainly not knee jerk down to this game but Pochettino should definitely be under scrutiny and not feel he is untouchable because mistakes are being repeated again and again....

Lamela off please. His only role at the club should be league/fa cup and to come on when we are 1-2 goals up in the 80th minute to run around and be a menace. To think he could fill Eriksen’s creative role is a joke.

There is a very worrying possibility that poch literally has no tactical answer to breaking down a deep defence that just let's us keep the ball on the halfway line.
He could start but keeping fit and picking the 11 best player. One way to defeat a deep defence is through pure quality.

I think he has actually been ok. He presses so well and doggedly fights to get the ball back. Just some of his pony tricks aggravate me.

I thought he was one of our better players so far but he’s getting too close to the front three who are too narrow and as a result are getting in each other’s way because we’re not stretching them enough

Sonny should be hugging the touchline as he’s got the beating of their fb

Eriksen on for Winks within ten minutes

Endless crosses into the box aren't gonna cut it today - both Moura and Son are capable of beating a man, they need to do that and bring the ball into the area.

Christ- last season’s post Christmas slump continues. I’ve posted previously that this is a team transitioning but that doesn’t explain the shit shower today. Basically, in five halves of football so far this season, we’ve had about 20 minutes of decent play. against tiring relegation fodder.

Not close to good enough for a team and a manager claiming to be on the verge of becoming a big club. It’s obvious that while Sanchez is still young and learning, he persistently makes really basic yet damaging mistakes. We’re playing with our two quickest wide forwards, yet they keep drifting in wide rather than overloading with Rose and KWP. It’s clear to me, who according to my wife- who’s fairly astute- is generally stupid that Sissoko and Winks aren’t needed against a team that parks the bus. A single DM to screen the two CBS is more than enough with a much more adventurous, inventive midfielder linking with the CAM to make more opportunities is crucial.

And get Son and Moura out wide and overloading with the fullbacks like City and Liverpool do week in, week out against teams that sit deep.

I rarely rant but this is starting to look like tactical intransigence from Poch, which is a never a good sign when all the evidence suggests your approach is failing

Think it's something like 75% of our matches this calendar year where we haven't scored in the first half.
5 of our last 28 games we've scored in the first half, so 82% (?) we haven't.

Every pre season he turns into Lamessi but disappears after August. Seems its taken just 2 games this season. Every year is going to be 'his year' and its always the fucking same
Careful bud. Here come the dislikes!! Poor poor player with a big effort. And some people appreciate effort only. Which is the least you expect.

Learning what exactly- how not to defend. How can he be better than Jan?
I said it in the pre-match thread that I’d rather have Vertonghen and others said Sanchez needs to play and learn...well he’s learning again it seems.
