it has been said that Rose is looking for a new challenge and no disrespect to Watford but why would he want to go there,
I think he will still be our first choice LB, so I don't see the appeal for him there.

I don't understand why we acccepted the bid regardless of the amount. If he had accepted we would have had no chance to replace him. Crazy.

Rose is a fabulous defender, with good attacking instincts. I suspect the issue is that he doesn't really know what he wants in life. I imagine Spurs have decided let him find out for himself (I doubt he can be told) that the Grass is not always Greener. Of course media seeking headlines distort and sensationalise the situation.

I for one hope he has had a look around...and realised he is onto a good thing at Tottenham. The clubs at the very top can only go downwards you cant stay at the summit forever (e.g. Barcelona). Spurs, however, are at the stage in the cycle where they have a chance of scaling the giddy heights - its an exciting prospect.

Rose can and should be part of this. Likeable as they are, Watford would have been a retrograde step for him.

Im wondering what his agent is advising, and whether the advice tends to push Rose into situations where the agent stands to benefit?
Your post implies that Rose asked to leave. All indications, all summer, have been the opposite: that the club wanted to give him the opportunity to leave if he could find a suitable club, but he preferred to stay.

He's been with us since 2007 and he's still an effective player, so they weren't prepared to push him out. But they would have preferred him to move on.

I don't believe anything of the kind has been said by anyone, except perhaps in forum speculation. My interpretation of the summer's events is that Rose was left behind on the summer tour because the club wanted him to look for a new employer. But he didn't find one and didn't want to leave.

I think you are being a bit in generous. Isn't it a case that Spurs are not offering him a new contract (covered somewhere on this forum)? What do you expect him to do?

If poch wants him to stay then I’m glad but if losing rose was part of the painful rebuild then I’m gutted.

I just cannot understand why we were prepared to let him go in the first place and suspect there may be more going on. I don't know that but imo its can't be football reasons unless we are stupid.
Rose is one of the best Lbs around imo and we would not find it easy to replace him, by the look of it we weren't even trying, so wtf?
I dont get it.
He scares the crap out of defenders, draws more fouls in dangerous positions than anyone and we know that without decent attacking full backs Pochs teams turn into AVB stodge crab football.
Makes no sense letting him go, especially as Trippier has also gone.
Anyway whatever is going on I for one am absolutely delighted he is still with us.

I think we are saying almost the same thing.

I didn't mean to imply they asked Rose to leave - its more a case of giving Rose an opportunity to find out what he really wanted. They would have allowed Rose to leave, if that is what he wanted. Now he has 'chosen' to stay - they have a better chance of settling him down.

I would contrast Rose with Eriksen - who is also unsettled. An unsettled Eriksen is a different prospect within the squad. He is a cooler, calmer, individual - very unlikely to be disruptive. He is also better at not allowing the press opportunities to create the damaging headlines.

Maybe giving Rose some space, and opportunity to work out some of his Demons will allow him to be the great player he is, and also be a more positive influence within the club.

It wouldn't surprise me, however, if this is a last throw of the dice by the club. If his head is in the wrong place this season they will push on Sessignon and move Rose out at the next opportunity.

I agree, there is no way they would want to loose a motivated settled Rose. He is a fabulous player - one of the very best LBs in the premier league. Im really pleased he is still at Spurs and I hope he settles down this season.

We just signed a left-wing-back yesterday.

Because it was too low, not because the club shed tears over his potential exit.

Well yeah, the club said he was up for sale so any bid which was deemed appropriate would have been accepted.
