It does sound like it has legs and fingers crossed with obvious usual reservation about it being 'too complicated', not enough time etc.

He is obviously fantastically talented and I am absolutely NOT saying don't sign him. But does anybody wonder if he might struggle with the pace and physicality of the Premiership week in week out.

Arguably he might be what we need in very tight games so who cares. And you might also say Kane isn't lightning quick but then Kane is a beast and is a master at shielding the ball and drawing fouls, bookings.

I just remember how good Lamela looked in Serie A and then when he got here we realised that, though he could beat defenders at will, he rarely had the pace to leave them behind afterwards. That said, Dybala is, I think, more skilful and has better acceleration and of course can score from anywhere.

Anyway, I think this means that like Lamela he'll be best through the middle, not out wide so those formations with him left or right of a front 3 won't be using him as well we could and I'd be surprised to see him there

At least he doesn't rule it out. Sounds like we are trying to get the replacement first, then hopefully sell after our window closes.

Cant help but think the amount of Argentines we have at the club and our history with the countrys players makes us an attractive proposition for their players. Currently we have what? Poch managing, and playing we have Gazzaniga, Foyth and Lamela... can see that being attractive for other Argentinians looking at the prem league.

Lots of plus points for Spurs right now.

London based
Best Stadium in Europe
Best training facilities in the Prem
Team full of fellow countrymen if your an Argie
Managers a fellow countryman

Must definitely have a huge draw now on convincing players of Dybala calibre to sign for us! Would imagine that would also help persuade Lo Celso too!
Announce Messi :wacky:

Season before last, before Ronaldo. Close your eyes for goal 19 (y)

even if we don't sign him, sounds like one of GLC or Fernandez or Coutinho would move up the list. Still would fucking love it and am hopefull if not expectant

Ok, so views after watching this.
1. He has a wand of a left foot, but isn’t afraid to use his right.
2. We may start scoring from direct FK’s again.
3. Seems to primarily occupy the RWF channel and drive in, similar to Son coming off the left.
4. Seems stronger than he looks, the way he holds of defenders.
5. Has the movement and close control to find pockets of space well.

Anyhow, wasn’t there some ITK yesterday that Levy had been watching a deal for some time now to understand the figures involved and was ready to hijack? Surely it’s this, we’ve watched United butcher it, now step in. There may be some difficulties, but Juve have made it clear he’s not wanted, so it’s about him finding a place that suits him. Fellow countryman in Poch as manager, fellow Argentine internationals in Gazzaniga, Foyth and Lamela (maybe even Lo Celso too) to help him settle in. Whats not to like.
Given how much is known about what would be required to make a deal work, before bids even take place, it’s a bold statement to have the media so aware we’ve had a bid accepted.

I wonder why he says Coutinho 'unlikely'. Everything seemed positive from Tier 1 Barcelona sources yesterday.

Not strictly Dybala related but a humorous piece from Eurosport on our transfer dealings.

https://www.eurosport.co.uk/footbal...-is-happening-at-spurs_sto7400079/story.shtml

Daniel Leave-it-to-me-y

Audience participation time! Hands up who had a piggy bank as a kid? Remember popping in 20p here, 50p there? It seemed pointless until you smashed it open and a flow of coins suddenly swept your lap, making your dreams – the Warm-Up’s was an inflatable sofa – possible.

Daniel Levy knows the feeling. The Spurs chairman cracked his open on Tuesday evening to discover he had enough for a stadium, three major signings and an annual subscription to the Eurosport Player (just £39.99 a year, FYI). Paulo Dybala is arriving from Juventus, Giovanni Lo Celso is arriving from Betis, Philippe Coutinho is arriving from Barcelona.
Add to these sensational developments the likely capture of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham, and possibly even Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, and one thing is clear: Tottenham are not just going to win the Premier League, they are going to relegate the other 19 teams through shame.

Honestly, is there a better starting XI in Europe than: Lloris; Foyth, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sessegnon 2.0; Ndombele, Winks; Coutinho, Lo Celso, Dybala; Kane? When the camera pans to the bench at the 60-minute mark, no longer will we see a smattering of unknown E-FIT criminal lookalikes. Instead, players who can actually change a game, the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela, will be stationed in place of Oliver Skipp and company. Maybe even Christian Eriksen, if he screws on his head and realises that moving to Manchester United would be an utter catastrophe.
It's all great fun. However, we should probably acknowledge how this ends:
  • Wednesday PM: 'Dybala agrees terms as Spurs close on shock triple swoop'
  • Thursday AM: 'Sky Sources: Spurs call press conference for 4pm'
  • Thursday PM: "We’ve worked long and hard to pull off these deals. So it gives us great pleasure to welcome Fernando Llorente back to the club, with Darren Anderton and Michael Dawson joining the backroom staff. Come on you Spurs."

Not sure where he is getting his info from but to finish the tweet on 'Things moving a mile a minute, though.' suggests he doesn't totally know so his whole tweet is subject to change.

Vintage stuff.

I can't help but think 'Spiderman' every time I see Dybala's picture. Spitting image of Toby Maguire IMHO.
Ironically this will be every Spurs fan if it falls through

There’s a lot not right about these reports.

The International Chamber of Commerce offers voluntary dispute resolution through arbitration. In other words the ICC will only consider the case if Dybala agrees and he certainly would not agree if the amount at stake was as reported.

Further the fact that Star Image are considering arbitration rather than pursuing a legal case which Dybala could not avoid suggests that they are not confident in their case.

The amount claimed sounds excessive. Let’s suppose that Dybala’s image is worth a 5% royalty on the products it is used to promote, then to earn £40m would require sales of £800m which seems ludicrously high.

Finally, English law does not recognise image rights. If someone thinks their image is being misused to promote products then they have to sue for “passing off” ie pretending that the product has been endorsed when it hasn’t. As the standard EPL contract provides only that the player allow the club to use his image to promote the club and club branded products then there is no way a passing off action could succeed.

It is very common for contracts to have arbitration clauses which commit parties to arbitration rather than court proceedings for any number of reasons (cost, convenience time) but especially confidentiality. It is absolutely believable that any dispute would be before an arbitral body.

I'm not an IP lawyer but the suggestion that English law hinders you in terms of monetising your image doesn't ring true.

Passing off is a common law remedy and I very much doubt that there is such a thing as a "standard EPL contract". Put simply, if I start slapping Dybala's face on a bunch of lunch boxes and flogging them, I would get sued one way or another.

So did we square away whether this is accurate?

Articles I've read this morning seem to suggest his image rights could be a major stumbling block.

For me, Premier League standards don't help us at all. Due to those clauses, we could use Dybala's image for our business and promotion purposes and he would be obliged to allow us to.

The problem is elsewhere: if third party subject owns Dybala's image rights, it's almost certain he (and possibly the Club) would be obliged to pay damages/liquidated penalties to the rights owner.

FWIW, I am a lawyer, but I'm not practising in UK. @Stoof?

If we did get a deal sorted I wonder if he'd ask for the 10 shirt of Harry Kane's back?
