Match Threads Spurs vs Manchester City - Match Thread

Have you read Bounce by Mathew Syed David? Really interesting book on the ‘myth of talent’. There’s a bit about how Desmond Douglas was considered to have by far the best reactions in the whole of table tennis but when they tested the players for reaction speeds with hitting lights etc he was...

Player Watch Player watch: Son Heung-min

Completely agree with this. I think a lot of the issues and complaints would be solved by just letting the refs look at the pitchside monitors. So many of the calls are subjective and can be argued either way and therefore I get why the VAR refs are reluctant to overturn the decisions of the on...

    The Mauricio Pochettino thread

Easy to be critical of his methods now that we are struggling. By 'micromanaging' and trying to make everyone an 'uber' player he has successfully developed numerous players into full internationals at both here and Southampton (including that 'rebel' at Atletico). The guy was heralded as a...

Don't see anything special with Howe. Gets the odd good result against the top teams but also gets hammered regularly. Seems like a decent guy and respect that he sets out a team to win rather than spoil a game like most EPL managers do these days but needs to prove himself somewhere else before...

    The Mauricio Pochettino thread

I think the players have too much respect for Poch to down tools and to go behind his back etc. As Alli said, many of the players owe him a lot for their careers and current status in the game. I think the issue is a loss of belief and confidence in his tactics and methods.

So why would it be different here? Poch has struggled to shift the players he doesn’t want as well. Jose was given way more money then he will ever get at Spurs and still couldn’t get near Pep.

Last season at the Lane was easily the best football I’ve seen at spurs and trumps Redknapp IMO but I agree with you on the rest.

Which kind of supports the point I was trying to make. Given a choice of Klopp or Mourinho I would go for Klopp every single time despite the difference in records. It’s the football I would love to see spurs play week In week out and why Liverpool and their fans stuck with him despite failing...

Mourinho was unable to challenge City for the title with the biggest transfer budget and wage bill in the league. During his time at Utd both Pep and Klopp have shown themselves to be superior managers IMO so whilst those two are still managing here I don't see how Mourinho gets us a PL title...

    The Mauricio Pochettino thread

It certainly feels like we've reached the end of the road with Poch. I think his management style and the demands he places on players has a shelf life and my gut is telling me that we are witnessing the end of that now. Klopp suffered the same at Dortmund and Guardiola has even talked about how...

    Mourinho's away record against the top 6 as Utd manager: W2, D3, L7 (F11 A22). Poch's record in that same period: W2, D3, L7 (F15 A22). So pretty much exactly the same...

Is it really that ridiculous? Mourinho's last 3 trips to Anfield to face Klopp: 0-0 (6 shots, 1 on target) 0-0 (7 shots, 1 on target) 3-1 (6 shots, 2 on target. Liverpool had 36 shots lol) The last time Mourinho went to Anfield he basically played a 6-3-1 formation with Rashford and Lingard...

    The Diamond

Exactly. Liverpool often end up in a diamond with Firminho dropping into midfield and Salah and Mane going up top. Without the ball however they go 4-3-3 with the wide players responsible for covering the full backs and wide areas. They have a clear shape to them without the ball and press as a...

    The Mauricio Pochettino thread

Yep, he needs to find a way to change the system but on his terms. International break could come at a good time for him to take stock and come up with a new plan for when the players return.

    The Mauricio Pochettino thread

I think you and many other posters are downplaying the role Poch has played in building this squad over the years and are ignoring the fact that one of his biggest strengths as a manager is his ability to coach and improve players. Would Kane have become the player he is today if say Jose had...
