I actually think most of his time here has been between middle ground and one of our best players on the pitch.
Even when off form I still feel he works hard and will create at least one or two key chances in a match.
I agree he's in a bad patch now though and deserves to fight his way back...
When he has 15 goals (comfortably the most) and 8 assists (also the most) does it matter if he's a bit of an odd fit?
His all-round play is definitely not what it was but if he gets another 30 goal-assist season that's enough for me to not be all that worried.
Last year we only had one PL game all season with more possession than we had today. And today wasn't even one of our more possession dominant games.
Memories are short. We play completely differently to how we did under Conte.
It's so weird. He has one elite skill, almost a superpower, and for most of his time with us he's either told not to use it or is scared to.
It's like if Peter North had quit porn to become a priest.
In this case with the angle of the run and how soon the shot was after the throughball there wouldn't have been a whistle before the attempted block even if the flag went up right away.
It was also fairly tight margins - there are much more egregious examples.
Missed several through ball opportunities when cutting in ( hardly unique to him) but maybe his best all round performance. So so so much better off the ball - went from being so timid a few weeks ago to now really hunting for the ball.
His defending was fine, it was his passing getting him into trouble. I think 3 times he gave it away in dangerous areas - the one was a nailed on goal of it wasn't for Emerson flying in.
4 goals in a season is fantastic though 👏
I really think something like that should be a fine. It's cheating, fraud, bad sportsmanship, whatever you want to call it - it sucks. I wouldn't want the game affected by that nonsense or the ref to get involved.
Just a message after the game that the player was deemed to be acting against...
