What's pissing me off the most is that anyone can see that the reason Dier needs to use his arms to balance himself is because Lascelles pushed him in the back, but because non-penalty fouls are not reviewable and the ref didn't blow for a foul on the push while play was live, that specific aspect of the play becomes unreviewable by VAR. The ref can't say that a foul precipitated the handball and therefore it's a free kick to Spurs, because he's prohibited from so much as acknowledging the existence of anything that happened prior to the potential penalty incident.

That is a massive fucking oversight which creates an incentive to cynically foul in the box such that the defenders' reflexes will be to raise their arms. If the ref doens't blow the whistle live and the play results in an incidental handball, your team is gifted a goal. It's a complete fucking joke.

Bang on! My old man and I were saying the exact same thing!

In cricket and in rugby it’s much more black and white whether there has been a try or a player is out LBW. There are multiple other factors.

Also I hugely agree with O’Hara, just sign two massive strikers and lump balls at their head, the knockdowns will give you almost a penalty every game.

We should be grateful we came away with a point, we came up against a very strong Newcastle side their last couple of games they have been firing on all cylinders. Still early days.
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

They won 7-0 against fucking Morecombe, and prior to that have had just 2 shots on target in 3 Prem games.

Firing on all cylinders, my arse!!!

It’s insane that people are blaming the draw on the players when we were 1-0 up. Insane. We had this game in the bag. Nothing to do with the chances we missed. We got fucked by rules. We were much better. If the game finished 1-0 would they be saying we didn’t deserve it.

This is an shocking shocking and RIDICULOUS decision.

For me it just comes down to - does the punishment match the crime. It feels like that wasn't a part of the discussions regarding the handball rule changes.

If the ball is goal-bound then fair enough. If it's ball to hand then fair enough.

For these edge cases, if there must be punishment for the advantage gained - fine - but it should match the crime. Indirect freekick, freekick outside the box, short corner - I'm not sure what it is but giving an almost certain goal for the crime of having arms is ridiculous.

Whilst I'm still livid about the injustice, I want to take a step back and give some credit to the players. After months of being fairly indifferent to watching turgid football, this game was actually a really decent performance. Sure we weren't clinical, but we created loads of chances and looked energetic, passionate and dominant. Sadly there's nothing in our control about being robbed of the result, so I want to find consolation in the positives of the display. If we continue to play like that we will win plenty of games this season

Like I give a damn what you or anyone else on here thinks. Season ticket holder for almost 20 years so I'll trust my opinion over 99% of the posters on this site.

This thread is a joke. Bitching and moaning over a fucking rule. Typical.

Yeah, it's a dreadful rule but it was there before the game and it'll be there after the game. Lazy to point your finger at the referee, the one thing that Spurs can't control or influence.

Fact is, we had almost 20 shots on goal and scored once. We couldn't deal with has-been Andy Carroll. Dier missed an open header on goal - and fact is he's a complete liability every single game. Those are the things that Spurs can control.

But yeah, this thread is full of "fans" who want to cry into their pint over a rule and hit the spam button on any post that doesn't fit with their view. Thankfully most of those "fans" never go to a game....
And yet you visit the site and comment on it...?

why would it matter if it came from behind? the rule is making your body unnaturally bigger, and also hand/arm is above shoulder level.

you can argue all you like about whether the rule is good or not, but in this case against the current rules its a handball.

So if the player was knocked out and was lying on the floor with his arms outstretched and the ball hit his arm, you would be happy for that to be a penalty? Just saying. It is obviously a ludicrous law.

N'Dombele was excellent today. Lamela again showing he loves the sharp link up play around the box and can work well with a number of players (should be nailed on for RWF when Bale isn't playing). Kane and Son in the first half looked world class. Lo Celso great first half. Davies won't get the credit he deserves for some really solid defending for the second match running.

We were robbed.

I thought we played really well and it was a really encouraging performance.

Sure, we should have scored more and need to be clinical but at the end of the day we kept a clean sheet as far as I'm concerned. They didn't have a sniff. We were comfortable and had it in the bag until we were robbed.

Haven't been this angry about a decision since Mendes ghost goal at Old Trafford.

Well played Spurs and the manager too, shame about the people in charge of our game. Killing football.

The fucking freekick prior to it was a travesty, fucking fuck anybody who claims the ref is following the rules and not his fault, he's a fucking moron.

What a joke. They have ruined the sport.

One of a clusterfuck of about 5 subjective decisions that were all decided incorrectly against us. Even if Lloris had managed to save the pen they would have found some infringement to retake it.

I’m so sorry to learn if your disability. Because: if you truly are of the opinion that Dier’s movement is “making his body unnaturally bigger”, you cannot ever have jumped in your life. Or done any sports, or movement of any kind, whatsoever.
