If it helps I’ve been slagging him off for years.
He had a purple patch a couple of years ago, I’ll give him that. But he was average before that and imo worse since.

...and I don’t care if the room values him. I think he’s awful and gave groaned so many times when attacks and promising moves have broken down because either his cross is useless, he gives the ball away, or makes the wrong pass.

Laugh it up, fuzzballs.

No :shifty:

That's my favourite Spurs team ever but there's a reason we were still scrapping for 4th despite having such a talented team, and a big part of that was Harry's tactics.

It's easy to look back on that era with (Danny) rose tinted spectacles as we were so much fun to watch, but we were also very open and I can count the number of games we controlled from start to finish on one hand. It was always a rollercoaster and we were very often dominated in midfield, hence that old school style of 4-4-2 is less popular these days.

We were a far far more complete team at the peak of Poch compared to the Redknapp era.
Oh no doubt, but as mentioned we also have better players now. I also wouldn't mind if we started games more open and adventurous before settling in and looking to control things.

The reason we finished fourth was mostly down to Redknapp flirting with the England job after the Terry fiasco IMO. We were well in the title hunt prior to that, went through a massive downturn in form the whole time it was happening, and then our form picked up again as soon as it became clear Redknapp would not get the job. That, and the Saha/Nelsen January window, caused us to just barely miss out. I'm still pissed about it now just thinking of it.

CONSIDER THIS 4 -3 - 3

Lloris
Doherty - Toby - Dier/Sanchez - Requilon
Ndombele - PEH - Lo Celso
Bale - Kane - Sonny

GOOD LAWD

Okay I'm giddy and can't sleep. The reports are this might actually get done. The double swoop for Bale and Reguilon! (WITH NO ONE GOING THE OTHER DIRECTION!)

Does this mean top 4? Of course not. But if it happens, we won't be able to complain we didn't have an absolutely EPIC transfer market this year. Maybe the best in history.

Time will tell. I'm buzzing.

Just remember to give him time before we sledge him

...like 180mins

Defo !! He officially is has to have extra time in a similar way united and city players are getting, he continued to play after the season as he went to the europa final (and won of course ;) ) so i doubt he has trained much at all... so with a new move , new country new club and the fact he played additional games he mau well need more time to get up to pace plus taking into consideration of acclimatising etc ...

Whilst I'm not a big Ben Davies fan, I think it's unfair to compare the two. Ben has never been a wing back, it's never been his style, which was why I felt he was always a bad choice for Poch who liked his attacking fullbacks and probably why he has come in for stick from some of our fanbase.

Crazy to think this will be the first player we’ve signed from La Liga in 7 years.

I know Toby was from Atletico but he was playing in England.

Reguilon is such a massive fucking signing for us. It is a shame that we didn't get him in earlier and that this deal is being completely overshadowed by the Bale talks.

It's a good problem to have. Exciting times.

I think you’re forgetting gio, but yeah very few from Spain.
Ah shit, you’re right. I’m now pretty sure I said the same thing about him. That league is a massive talent pool that we don’t dip in enough. Germany is another one we rarely venture in.

Yeah, but Davies isn’t that great of a defender either. He makes mistakes and gets beaten by pace all the time that lead to balls coming into the box, wingers dribbling inside for a shot or actual scoring plays. I think Davies is a great guy, but never thought he was good enough for a top 6 side and he always felt like the weak link in the team of 2-3 seasons ago.

Yeah it’s like everyone just all decided to agree that he was some great defender... he ain’t.

Meanwhile, down at Stamford Bridge, an emergency meeting is called to discuss how much they paid for Chilwell.

Reguilon and Bale surely demonstrates the power of Jose. Not so sure we’d get anywhere near these two without him. Clearly not a has-been in the eyes of top players.

Davies is a good footballer and was great as a cover for a top 4 team fighting on 4 fronts. As a starting 11 and then someone of less ability behind him? Well your team is only going to be worse.
Just a shame we didn't replace our top quality players when they left and we were actually in the top 4, instead of now when we're playing catch up.
Better late than never I suppose.

Imo the signing of Reguilon actually eliminates the need for a cb. It frees him to be the 5tH /6th cb Too

Are you saying it frees Davies to be the 5th/6th cb? I don’t think Reg plays cb nor do I think he would be good there.
