My favourite midfield was Barca’s three of Busquets, Xavi, & Iniesta. We won’t get near that quality, but we are the DM/Busquets player away from being able to at least resemble the way they played.

Busquets
Xavi Iniesta

I’d like to think, especially with Pep’s early assessment, of Hojbjerg as the person to play the Busquets role for us. I’d than also be on the look out for the next player with these attributes to keep the system rolling. If we were to get him, our midfield options start to look pretty strong, and Winks could play a vital role in it.

Hojbjerg
Winks LoCelso

We can stop bypassing our midfield then, and actually play some football. Ndombele can also play in that midfield dropping in for either of Winks or LoCelso.

Drop in quality this season from Winks is alarming. I have been in his corner from day1. But he has simply not developed his game in the past year. I am not saying he is playing bad, but his current game is average can average be.

He is currently giving every reason to make him a squad player - Need that passionate old Winksy back. Every tackle & pass - he should mean it.

he is and he should be a squad player (at best) based on his overall performance

Like N'Dombele, he's currently in competition with GLC for a starting spot. Unlike N'Dombele however he's capable of playing as the anchor in that two should we need it.

He should be a squad player, he fits that role perfectly. Foden although not the same position is the level of youth player you want starting

Lo Celso is so important to us right now. Without him, I can't see any other combination working in a 4231 formation.

If Lo Celso is fit I can see Sissoko, Winks and Skipp all playing alongside him.

As for Ndombele, the only position I see him playing in Jose's set up is as a number 10.

Personally, I think he would be brilliant in that role as he would have less defensive responsibility.

I struggle to understand what people mean by a number 10 these days. Does any team in the Premier have a number 10 that looks or plays anything like Ndombele? Seems as though, at Spurs, if we have a lazy, inconsistent player who nevertheless shows the odd good touch, we want to put him at number 10 to relieve him of responsibilities. Most teams have an incredibly committed, hard working player there. Why are we so different? Look at Mane, or Aguero. Grealish, even.

Only one of those players resembles the classic #10 type.

One is a fox in the box striker and the other two play wide, what comparison are you making?

there isn’t a modern 10 in a 433

we play 4231/4213 to accommodate Dele

we can play Tanguy there instead of Dele?

I would entertain the sale of Winks and Alli, personally. Not sure if now is actually the time given a potential market downturn, but the sale of those 2, and some other fringe players, could see us really address some major deficiencies in our squad if we invest wisely (big “if” I know). Know it’s not the most popular thought, and it’d be sad to see them go for sure

Are we not lacking in home grown players?

You can name 8 home grown players
We have:
  • Kane
  • Dele
  • Davies
  • Winks
And a few that could make that list when they are old enough (Sessegnon and Tanganga)

We can't go and buy anyone to replace these players as we are limited in numbers.

That's two homegrown players out the squad, unless we replace them with two more homegrown players then I don't think that could happen.

Pretty sure Sess counts because we bought him from another squad into the senior team.

We could boost it with Tanganga, Sess, Skipp, Cirkin, Parrott, Whiteman, Fagan-Walcott etc. We won't sign too many players so don't have to worry about 25 men cap. Foyth gets HG status next season I believe.

don't think any team would be interested, especially at the price levy would demand

But none of those need to be added to the squad due to their age, and are any of them up to playing instead of Winks or Dele?

For me it just leaves us with a weaker squad if either go.
We need to be holding on and bringing in the best home grown players we can.

I had forgotten about Foyth. Just need to see if he stays with us

I hope we sign couple of HG players, plenty of good FB prospects (Aarons, Bogle, Fergusson, that left back from Palace etc), maybe Godfrey, Rice, Grealish, Eze (some easier than others, no chance for Grealish) but money will be tight and I think we will try to patch things up, not fully improve the squad.

Maybe you could sell Winks for about what Grealish would cost? Probably wishful thinking and I know it would never happen.

Was thinking the same as you mate, only Grealish of those is a n.o10 and even he plays LW and drifts inside allbeit with a lot of freedom. Mane is a LW and Aguero is a ST who can also play false 9 which is definately not the same as a n.o10.
