Trippier should not be anything other than a wingback in a back 5 or just a right midfielder. Not a defensive bone in his body but he did kind of have a wand of a right foot.

He is right about Mousa. Have a look at some of the other players we’ve kept along like Jan and yet we’re supposed to believe mousa fell off an absolute cliff. His best season was literally 17/18 there is no way he declined so quickly. My only guess is that he left for the money in China. Hard to blame him.

I'm sure Dembele wanted to leave before due to the decline on his body and we wouldn't let him go, I think as well as his body not being up to it for him going to China was an opportunity to good to pass up at the time and we let him leave to respect his wishes which is ironic because we don't normally let players go until we say.

Trippier obviously wasn't paying attention.

Dembele was barely getting about the centre of the pitch anymore and was increasingly playing a static role where his midfield partner had to do the running, was starting to pick up injuries as his body failed, and could no longer pull off his signature moves with reliability. His little shuffle and glide whilst he held off the opponent, for instance, used to be near unstoppable, at the end it worked less and less as he just increasingly couldn't dominate whoever he came up against by that point.

Given he was being nursed through certain fixtures and unavailable half the time, very doubtful he was contributing much if he'd been kept a few more months. The guy himself was admitting he couldn't hack it anymore, had the chance to go experience something different and get paid big money, and for the club there was an offer of over £10m on the table for a near 32 year old who was going free a few months later. You cant really blame anyone for taking the deal.

Yep. I knew he was done when Pogba bullied him in the FA Cup semi-final the season before he left.

Dembele was always hugely undervalued and despite his body slowing on him, there’s a direct & clear correlation between Dembele leaving and our form falling off the face of the earth last Feb. Trips is right. We should have kept him for that 6 months.

Generally m speaking he was a big game player who could be trusted and he’s the player we’ll struggle to replace this summer, next summer and probably the one after that (unless Levy leaves the buying to someone else).

Nah, the rot had set in before that, we were just about getting wins still though and this masked performances from 2017 onwards.

What was he going to contribute? He could play one game a week max, could barely run anymore, his 'moves' were becoming drastically less effective, and even the player himself admitted he wasn't up to it. I think it's wishful thinking to be saying 'oh but if we'd only done this though....'

Yeah there's a lot of revisionism about his last year at Spurs, the guy could barely run and kept getting injured and actually became a hindrance, was pretty sad to see.

Dembele WAS an incredible player but similar to what we’ve seen with Jan this season, time suddenly and abruptly caught up with him.

Mousa just couldn’t cut it them last six months with us, that doesn’t take away from what a quality servant he was for us and none of us will remember them six months when we look back at his time here.

For Trippier to say we would have won the CL final with Mousa is madness, in his prime maybe he’d have made the difference but not in the condition he was in when he left unfortunately.

Is Trippier trolling us? He said he has heard Ndombele is frightening in training. From what I hear he is unbelievable

Was always fun to read people say he was a "better fit" than Walker was when he was leaving.
Haha, I guy I used to play football with used to say thatTrippier's positioning was superior than Walker and that he was a better defender mentally all he usual tropes etc. Told him that until they start speed restrictions in football Walker would always be the better player; and in my mind better at defending. Trippiers problem is that he lacked the intensity and tenacity that walker, rose and Davies had.

Didn't this come up with him before? Or is this the same story from months ago?

He's a bellend either way, which is a shame because I never thought he got treated fairly by a lot of fans for the effort he put in.

Same story.

I remember the Brighton home game at the end of 2018/19 when Eriksen got a late winner. Guy sat behind me slagging Trippier non-stop the whole match 'not fit to wear the shirt/ get out of my club' etc. Funny to think Trippier's now 25% of the meanest defence in Europe - 5 goals conceded in 13 matches - with four assists and top of the Spanish league. Seemed like a strange transfer to me at the time but Simeone must have seen something we mostly didn't.

And cheating scumbag betting companies? Cry me a river.

Yeah first englishman since Beckham to win the La Liga title. Quality full back who really thrives at a strong defensive side like A Madrid. I think his problem at Spurs was being expected to bomb forward all the time like Walker which often left him out of position.
