While i was not blown away by that performance i feel quietly optimistic.

I feel like what has clearly happened over thee last 3 weeks is what we expected to happen when Jose took over. He has worked with the team on our defensive structure and how to mark the space. As a result we look on the whole far more solid and are definitely conceding far less clear cut chances. With the attacking talent we possess it can be argued that there is every reason to get excited as once the structure becomes second nature to the players we can look at expanding our work on the ball.

As the players settled into the game we saw Lo Celso start to travel with the ball and draw defenders, and the movement from the from 4 improved. i feel unfortunately that ndombele is not trusted to fulfil his role defensively and thats why Jose hasn't trusted him to play yet. We could do with him playing some minutes in the next game and showing he is willing to knuckle down but i wont hold my breath.

Dier is the leader we have dearly lacked the last 2 years and adds so much to the team outside of individual performance. Its great to see him playing well.

Credit to Lamela as he came on at a point we were beginning to tire and he added a new higher tempo with his tenacity and ball retention. I feel he has a big part to play under Jose. Berwyn quietly looks outstanding technically and im impressed by his decision making, i feel hell be a very astute signing.

God it feels good to watch us win for once.

I thought Dier was a colossus at the back today, won absolutely everything in the air and all of his battles with Antonio.
Dier is so weird he has obvious limitations but also obvious strengths. I think we are taking our time with him. He has the potential to be an absolute rock between the ages of 27-33/34

Watching the game again and aurier was played in behind multiple times and failed to even come close to finding his man on the cross. Compare that to the bury Beckham tripps who pretty much accounted for half of Kane’s assists for a few years.

Well I'm not going to complain about that.

West Ham are shite but I will always take a 2-0 in any circumstance.

Goal for Harry.

MotM again for Lo Celso, really grown into a proper replacement for Eriksen.

Clean sheet and generally, a solid defensive performance.

Only down side for me was the lacklustre first half and the lack of an appearance by N'Dombele.
This kind of sums it up for me really.

I think our poor attacking performance is linked to issues with the balance of the side. I don’t think 4-2-3-1 works with Aurier pushes right up. I know we are playing that formation out of necessity but in my opinion we would benefit more from a 4-3-3 if Aurier is going to be there to overload. For me the current formation makes it very hard for us to get our number 10 in the game unless they are going to drop off, so why not just start a player that bit further back whose passing can help unlock defences.

What is quite satisfying is that it appears Lo Celso is the first choice in CM which makes us tick and that Mourinho has now got a CB partnership bedding in.

As a total aside, Rice looks like the player we are currently missing. If they go down or even if they don’t I hope we are all over trying to nick him. I also think Antonio could be a very astute signing as a back up for Kane...

Agree. Rice is top quality and there will be no nicking him if they go down. More likely is there will be a bidding war and I think we all know we are not a club for bidding wars.

I can get behind Antonio as a 2nd striker. His workrate and hold up play is phenomenal. I would also consider Pukki at Norwich who look doomed.

Look, I'm probably a bit biased here but did it even hit his arm? Zamora said you could see his shirt and his muscle move and the path of the ball changed but I just couldn't see it.
I cant see it hit at all. Surely it would of changed the movement of the ball. It didn't.

Agree about Antonio. Underrated player, always looks handy against us.

It's the whole industry really. It feeds on controversy. In large part because a lot of pundits have no interesting insights to add or are reluctant to do so.

The latter point really annoys me, if you are a football player surely you can offer some great insights into analysing player technique, a manager on tactical things and all that, but only but a few pundits ever add anything to it. I think in part it's because a lot of these industries think they are talking to a bunch of idiots and don't understand that even an average fan is able to follow much more than they understand as they repeat the bleeding obvious or patronise the audience with really shallow takes.

Also, particularly co-commentators seem to do incredibly little pre-match prep by the looks of things, as they give 'hot takes' about players with little understanding of them.

Anyway best just ignore it, don't bother with it, just lessens football into some crap soap opera.
This is where Andy Gray really shone. I feel I learnt so much from him when he was commentating on games. Simple things like explaining why strikers might shoot across goal instead of near post. Or explain why a referee might have decided not to book a player. He was excellent.

I really enjoyed that.
West Ham always play against us like it's their cup final.
We won
No injuries.
Clean sheet.
Professional performance overall
Job done today.

I really enjoyed winning against the Spammers but the football was as dull as dishwater imo. It was what I expected when Jose was appointed so not particularly surprising.

Only just seen the angle from over Lo Celso’s shoulder. Yeah that should have been disallowed. But I’m still not over the Aurier goal at Leicester that was chalked off for the most contrived offside of the season so f*ck ‘em.

Antonio has always been a good player, but he’s another sicknote. Not sure we need another one of those.

Issa Diop, Rice, Bowen, Antonio, they have some solid players but as always they lack balance and rely on Noble in midfield.

I thought we played reasonably well second half - although towards the end we just recycled the ball and kept possession rather than any real attempts to score a 3rd. West Ham were pretty poor, but I think I'm gradually getting used to Jose's team organisation. We've gone from possession football to more direct quick counter attacks - I think I like it.

I think it was Leroy Rosenior who said there’s something not right when a team spends £50m every season and still starts Mark Noble in midfield. And I think he said that 3 summers ago!

Good win and a controlled performance.

3 months out, 2 weeks to do a pretty season and no crowds, games are going to be drab, only city will perform at the highest due to their style, so happy with that, will continue to improve.
