I think you could suggest that there 5 or 6 places in this squad that could do with upgrading.

All for upgrading the player that is going to glue it all together in front of the back four, but we don't have anything remotely competent to back that player up if/when we sign him.

I feel (this is all opinion of course), unless we remain relatively injury free (lol) we're going to be struggling to challenge properly again for the top four for the forthcoming season and into the future.

You reap what you sow.

Could we do something like this?

Buy
DM - Hojbjerg - £20m
RB - Timothy Castagne - £14m
RB/LB - Nathan Ferguson - £Free with £4m (compensation fee)
AM - Coutinho £8m (loan fee)
CB - Thiago Silva £Free
CF - Giroud £7m
AM - Eze £20m

= £73m

Loan Out
Clarke £1m
Amos £1m
Parrot £1m
KWP £2m
Sell
CCV £5m
Rose £5m
Foyth £10m
Lamela £15m
Aurier £15m
Sissoko £18m

= £73m
No. Two of those players are on obscene wages.

I think a goalkeeper needs to be looked at as well.
In an ideal world with £150m + sales available for transfers, I think we'd need a first choice keeper, homegrown backup/3rd choice keeper, right back (possibly 2), centre back, defensive midfielder and number 9. Left back also potential area of concern although at present we have two options there.

Tbh seems like Zahavi and Mendes are our friends now, they aren't cheap :D
Typical we appear to get them on board when we're in the middle of something so unprecedented and with what purportedly seems to be no dosh ... (some might argue always been the case)

Typical Spurs. :ROFLMAO:

I think a goalkeeper needs to be looked at as well.

Definitely and on several ground

Pre-lockdown:

1) ITK that Lloris wanted out this summer
2) Lloris’ form has significantly declined the last couple of years
3) Lloris and I assume due to age is picking up several niggling injuries which are ruling him out of games
4) Gazzaniga isn’t good enough... decision making is awful and he’s woeful with shots close to his body
5) Vorm - LOL

We need a new reliable number one and a competent number 2.

4 linked keepers:

Pau Lopez
Henderson
Cakir
Maignan

New number one, we may have to stick with Gazzaniga for now and promote one of the homegrown keepers to number 3.

I agree. But we absolutely have to nail it. We cant get any of them wrong. That's quite a big ask.

Fully agree even more so given money will be limited. Sadly I cant say im confident we will get it 100% right! We are very hit and miss when it comes to transfers it seems. Again circles all the way back to why we need a DOF. Which sadly given how quiet it is on that front cant see us brining one in at the moment.

I know he's been terrible recently and might have gone the way of Joe Hart, but does anyone think a cheap punt on Jack Butland might be sensible? He's HG and would fill a backup need, and if he does get back to his best would push Hugo for a spot. We'll obviously be moving on Vorm and maybe we could get some cash for Gazzaniga too.

At this stage it wouldn't surprise me to see Friedel wheeled out of retirement.

Think I'd prefer Joe Hart to be honest. Couldn't believe the amount of mistakes I was seeing Butland make for Stoke.

I think the suggestion from barca for Coutinho was that they'd be prepared to subsidise.

Ryan Fraser on a free would be a decent alternative in AM although wanting £100k/wk might not fly with Levy.

CB is a real problem area if we can't afford to bring anyone in there.

Agree he its available on a free transfer as well. As mentioned above given money is going to be tight if someone came in with decent offer for Gazzaniga then I wouldn't totally object to getting Joe Hart In as a number two, Then have one of the younger keepers as a number three, IF in the unlikely event (unlikely in my negative view anyway!) that we qualify for the champions league this could free up couple of the home grown slots we have struggled with in our champions league squad over past couple of seasons.

The plus is that it sounds like he’s always known that, which allays one of the fears that he was going to go ape shit if we didn’t spend any money. I think he will be happy, like all of us, if we just address the problem areas.

We might not spend lots but I’m expecting a relatively high turnover of players. It won’t have escaped his (or levy’s notice) that some of the squad have deteriorated more than he was expecting when he joined.

The right business is so much more important than expensive business. As long as we get what we need the price isn’t important to me

I doubt the source is very reliable but £18m for Gabriel is surely something that’s achievable even in these circumstances, will also sort out the Vertonghen replacement as he’s left footed and age on his side
