I agree with you re: Southampton's system and its effect on defensive statistics. Hojbjerg is certainly not a pure DM or destroyer like people are suggesting. In fact, he is the joint 8th most dribbled by player in the Premier League which shows he's not necessarily a great 1v1 defender.

I think he's an average player and would be a very underwhelming signing for us. I mean how many of you would actually be excited about signing him??

I'd say maybe he'd be better than our current DM options but I truly think if Winks and Dier were at Southampton they'd have similar stats. To me he's one of those players (sort of like Winks) that is good at nearly every part of the game, but not necessary great at anything. He isn't an athletic, physical defensive midfielder and he's not a creative maestro either.

He's taller than Winks (hence why he wins more aerial duels) and has a better shot from distance, but Winks is definitely faster and more composed on the ball IMO. For this reason I'd rather us continue to develop Winks and Skipp than spend the majority of our limited transfer funds on Hojbjerg. If Jose utilizes a 3 man midfield instead of a double pivot, I think Winks will shine. However, that does not mean we shouldn't be searching for a player that is an improvement on Winks. If we do this though, we should be looking for players who will be long term solutions for us, and I just can't help but feel that Hojbjerg will not be that for us.

Absolutely, but it seems that getting Dele on the pitch at the expense of midfield stability has been a much higher priority. I'm not sure how that is likely to change.

Hojbjerg seems positionally disciplined, proactively sniffs out danger and organises people... which we could definitely do with.

He looks like a talented water carrier, which could be the glue we've been missing recently.

No I would happily have him. He would work well in a 3 with son and Kane with his work rate, directness and crossing
Fraser makes a lot of sense. We are weak on left side, he might even be an option to pinch hit at left back, as he has played some games at bournemouth at left wing back.

Premiership proven, comes on a free transfer and is only 26 years old. Still in his prime. I think he is a better option than Willian on a free, who is 5 years older.

As a player I’d be all for Fraser. Proven consistent output in this league, pacey and versatile. But the fact that he’s not hanging around to help Bournemouth beat relegation puts me off him a bit. I know he has no contractual obligation to do so, but after 7 years there I feel he could show some love for the club, especially considering that his performances dipped after the Arsenal link which has contributed to Bournemouth having a bad season.

Fraser's decent but I don't think he's any better than what we've got. Whist it might freshen things up a bit, the main reason I can see it happening is for financial reasons. That is, we bring him in for nothing and sell somebody (say Lamela). In the unlikely event that any of those proceeds were reinvested in the team (LB/RB/CM) it would be sound business.

And resilient. We could do with CM/DM that is rarely injured and can play throughout the season. Quick look at his injury record has me wondering what he's being doing since the 14/15 season to stave off injuries and illness. We should invest in PEH simply so he can get Kane and Lamela on whatever injury prevention routine he's following.

Also, we have a pretty good ROI when it comes to buying players from Southampton. Bale,Toby*, Wanyama and Gazzaniga are the most recent ones that come to mind.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Hojbjerg would be such an underrated signing! He is the leader we are crying out for in the middle of the park and he would give so much more freedom to Ndombele and Lo Celso. If we could bring Edouard in from Celtic, that is our midfield and attack sorted in two purchases. Then we could solely focus on strengthening our defence which is clearly our biggest weakness.

100% agree with this. He definitely has the quality, is affordable and is prem proven, which is key for me when it comes to this role. If we had £50m to spend we might be able to find a better option from elsewhere, but we don't, so for me he is the best option available to us for this key role that we need to fill.

Signing Fraser and Muenier on free transfers and signing Hojbjerg would be great business in this environment and more than doable(granted, at Spurs we have that special quality of fucking up doable deals).

What's happening with Eze? Are we still bringing him in the next window? Not sure we'd go for him and Fraser unless we're moving some players on

I doubt we'll have the money to bring him in now. I'd imagine with that one we'll try to haggle it to get him for a pittance and end up losing out to another club.

I remember when Hojbjerg was a 20 year old at Bayern Munich and we were linked. The majority on here were jizzing over the prospect of signing him.

Now hes Prem proven, posting up the best defensive stats in the league and in coming into his prime years nobody wants him.

NUTTERS!
He was well regarded as one of Bayern's top prospects and even Pep saw him as a future world-beater.

This was him at 18, playing out of position (at right back) against Dortmund in a Cup Final.

Starting with Neves. He'd be perfect.

Ndombele-Neves-Lo Celso would be a midfield of dreams.

Still think we need a more mobile DM rather than a Neves/Holjberg ballplaying type. We already have Winks who is similarish.

Would much rather an Ndidi/Zakaria/Luis type of player to focus on solidying the defense and cover the spaces behind GLC and Ndombele.
