Been enjoying watching The Big Match Archives on BT Sport. They are on between 6 and 9 am. I check if we are featured and record them. Started with 2 from 74/75 season which I remember well as the season we escaped relegation with a win over Leeds in our final game, which was played after the rest of the season had all finished. The games featured though were a massive 6 pointer v Chelsea which we won 2-0( perryman, Conn) which helped send Chelsea down and the following week we lost 0-1 to Arsenal.
They have now moved onto 78/79 and today I watched us lose 0-3 v Man City. I couldn't remember this game at all so it was a very disappointing performance! Armstrong and Jones rather ' powder puff' up front and Keith Burkinshaw not even at the game as he was watching prolific Cambridge striker Alan Biley, who we never signed much to everyone's disappointment( sound familiar?). Archibald and Crooks not signed for another 2 seasons.
I remember those days, as it was my first season watching. Our forward line of Duncan, Moores, Jones and Armstrong was pure shite even in those days

Club keep posting Lucas Moura hat-trick against Ajax. Everytime the whistle blow and all our players starting running on the pitch it makes me so happy but at the same time the depression hits hard when you realize what happened afterwards.

That fucking referee has blood on his hands. Never a penalty.

I've missed going to the games with my dad, drinking, eating and watching the football (I've missed games like City, Burnley and Palace much more than games like Munich)

I think for many it's a nice way to spend time with family/friends/loved ones, enjoying a common passion

The new stadium is a great venue for this, so much more to enjoy pre and post match in terms of food, drink and entertainment, even in defeat it can be made an enjoyable trip with a few jars post match while the band plays

We go to 90% of home games together, so with social distancing I've now not seen my parents for over a month, so more than the football I've missed going to the football with my old man

I have a season ticket, had it for years, but stopped going mid January due to Var, Var has ruined the game and the atmosphere in the ground, so stopped going and haven’t missed it one bit, have missed having a drink with my mates, but will start doing that once a month next season, so due to the virus, with the league stopped, I don’t really care and willn’t be renewing my ticket next year, shame as I loved match days, but the modern game is not enjoyable anymore.

I'm not missing the current game at all. It has long since got to the point where regardless of games football is in your face almost 24/7, through all media and social media and everything. Even after a full month away I still don't miss this aspect of it at all, and I will definitely try to do something about my football consumption when they get ready to restart.

I am still enjoying listening to my regular podcasts, the Guardian Football Weekly and The Totally Football Show are doing lots of more in-depth historical episodes, talking about old matches they've watched the day before or going through old PL/CL seasons. I find reading or listening about the history of football and discussion on that does enough to fill the void.

Wonder if any clubs are monitoring the general sentiment out there, seeing people surprisingly easily falling out of love with the game and really not missing it, reassessing their priorities and how they want to spend their money, the broken morality within the game, the absolute travesty that is VAR, are they starting to get seriously worried about future season ticket sales/merchandising etc?

As much as we all like to say that money controls football, fans are forgotten about, ticket prices are only fractions of club incomes etc - actually the fans will hold the real power here. If significant numbers of people cancel their Sky/BT subs, if foreign markets decide the PL wasn't actually quite worth paying all that money for after all, if clubs come back to experience half empty grounds... The fans will be the deciding factor in whether football comes back at all.

Imagine if on the first weekend the PL comes back we get a raft of bullshit VAR decisions - it will just remind people why they weren't bothered by the game disappearing for a while. Imagine if the remainder of games have to be played behind closed doors - half the usual audience won't even bother watching.

So far, I'm absolutely sure it will recover, and ultimately things will probably go back to normal eventually, but the more time passes, the more the game finds itself at risk of becoming an irrelevance to more and more people.

I miss it every day - it was my escapism twice a week.

I don't get out much anyway and I like it that way but scraping the barrel for things to do and trying out dressing up in the missus' clothes and parading in front of the mirror doesn't have quite the same satisfaction as watching a perfectly lofted ball from Lo Celso.

Initially enjoyed the break, but now starting to miss the games - still lots of “what ifs” to be sorted etc.....
Not missing JM though and watching some of the archive games online reinforces how much I miss poch?
However I know he had to go... we were unfortunately broken

I've missed but not nearly as much as would have suspected. With all the real life consequences of the pandemic, one's perspective on what's most important changes. When it comes back on, i'll probably be cheering as much as before, but suspect that it will be a little more hollow.
