Supply and demand.

We create the demand for their entertainment and so they can earn these amounts, be it an actor or a sports star.
Now that demand can be global and increases the revenue.
Yeah I understand it mate. Just don't understand how it only seems to be footballers criticised for it when there are many other professions in similar payscales that don't.

I'm sure sites dedicated to other sports have the same conversations predominantly aimed at their own participants (e.g. NFL, Baseball, Golf etc.).

It's probably got more to do with political persuasions than the branch of sports. Where there's a lot of socialism, these high wages can develop into a real bone of contention. In the US and Asia, people would be more focussed on the "making it big" story of the individual athlete...

I don't think it helps when the younger players are on so much, I wouldn't say that is typically comparable across professions. Im basically a jealous git when I see a 17 year old earning more in a week than I do in a year! :)

It’s to do with the nature of our interactions with footballers. Tribalism and hero-worshipping are always traits of a culture stepping into the more irrational realms of identity.

Totally agree mate.
Too much money is paid out to celebrities, who actually have achieved naff all apart from grow an ego and get followers galore meaning they are pampered even more.
There are too many people in society who give their all and are so poorly rewarded.

Not that they earn anywhere near as much as over there, Australia's Aussie Rules players have agreed a 50% pay cut for the moment to help the clubs stabilise and ensure all clubs will be there in the future. That figure may rise to 70% depending on what happens. They won't be playing till at least 31st may.

Sometimes common sense for the greater good.

The money will still be there.
Ultimately a buying club will probably still pay what the selling club wants for their biggest stars.
Club owners want the biggest paydays which come with the biggest accomplishments.
As shitty and devastating as this whole period is, when we get through it, money will still be money, and those who have the most, usually want more

there will be no transfers if the season isn’t finished imo as sky and bt will want their rights money back

There will always be transfers as players will want to move, and agents want to get paid

Interesting to see if the appeal for a move to spain or Italy has changed due to recent events.

The agents and players can what they like but if every club is financially up shit creek with no money then fk all is gonna happen.

I do expect some sort of compensation but I can’t see them kicking up too much of a stink, TV rights are up for sale soon and the likes of Amazon will be snapping at their ankles for premier league games rights. I don’t think they can afford to be too upset about it.

Unless Sky see the writing on the wall with regards to where they will eventually end up and fully challenge it.

No money? Only loss of revenue for a bit of season.

It depends. Big clubs might have to pay back TV money, they might not get the prize money that they were expecting from the league. Clubs are asking players and staff to take pay cuts while this carries on. Can they really go out and spend millions on new players when they can't even afford to pay their current employees?

Let’s get this right please!
Coutinho Poch decided against as we wanted GLC. When it seemed Betis were being difficult we went in for Coutinho, after direct contact from his agents. Betis then relaxed their stance, and we dropped our interest in both him (loan) and Fernandes. And I still GLC will prove the best decision.

Wouldn't this be the 'ideal' time to place a transfer ceiling on all clubs so that all are on a level playing field, make the agents'fees be only payable by players and to put a wage cap on all players. If all had to do this it would bring an inflated sport by the richest to a game much closer to its grass routes. Viva la revaloution, out with the capalist pigs and listen to the PEOPLE. PS any club with a Russian gangster owner to be 'dismembered', now where is my medication.

Sorry mate but of the three B.Fernandes would’ve 100% been the best move, you can see what effect he’s had on that Man.U team already he’s taken them to a new level. GLC is a great signing don’t get me wrong and has potential to do very well for us but you can’t compare him to B.Fernandes who is levels above. Coutiniho is also a near world class player who if we could’ve got we should’ve, GLC as a n.o8 is great but B.Fernandes or Coutiniho as n.o 10’s or Coutiniho coming in off the LW would’ve been epic.

But who would have got the ball to these players? GLC is clearly showing he is the only player able to keep the ball and move it forward so without GLC we would immediately reduce the impact of Coutinho or Fernandes.

Clearly we ideally needed both. I remember in the summer the idea was we needed GLC plus another if Eriksen left. After that when Eriksen dropped off hard (though that had happened before then) the narrative suddenly changed to GLC was Eriksen's replacement, so we don't need another. Clearly we do. GLC plus one of Bruno or Coutinho would have been wonderous, and either were probably feasible if we really pushed. Dybala would have obviously been a different approach, but would also have been an option. Where we turn from here will be interesting.

I agree we needed GLC plus 1, but that plus one was NDombele. He has all the talent but somehow passed a medical. I still believe he will become awesome

The plus one was not Tanguy. He was already in the bag so to speak at that point and was Dembele's replacement. We essentially need a Lamela replacement, or the player Erik should have been. And that is not a direct criticism of Erik, as the one long-ish spell he was consistently fit for pretty much coincided with our peak form, and that isn't entirely a coincidence. But so often he was injured and so often we relied on Eriksen alone. Tanguy, if he does come good, is Dembele's replacement, GLC is Eriksen's replacement. What we either need now is Lamela to suddenly not be injured for great expanses of time, or someone else.
