I think ultimately the directive will come from UEFA. You have to consider as well all countries are in a different stage. It’s just impossibly complex to get this season finished. By fair the easiest thing to do is null and void and then we start a fresh when can.

I’ve been saying this for a while too, I think it just has to. They’re the governing body for European football. Maybe though they will hand out recommendations that leagues should be voided. I don’t think they will enforce a voiding.

Shankleys " some think football is a matter of life and death it is not it is more important than that " Quip is being pushed to be proven true by the wonderful Ex Liverpool players who are so full of integrity . These exLiverpool players should be banned from TV for bringing the human race into disrepute Rubbish human beings one and all . For putting Liverpool's title winning aspirations before the whole worlds health and safety .

The way this virus is spreading in Europe even with lockdowns etc I would have thought the PL should be planning if they can even start next season let alone finish this one.
I can't see the Government allowing mass gatherings for quite a while unless the virus can be stopped completely , so games on TV and no spectators next season, who knows.

think its becoming increasingly clear that when football does start up again and that will not be until Sept at the earliest it will be behind closed doors

If they think they'll have trouble starting next season there's no point in voiding this season.

If i try to look at this neutrally I would rather advocate that we finish the current season however long it takes to do so, and then start a shortened 20/21 season or skip it altogether depending on how long this season takes. Measures like that will be much fairer as all clubs will know the drill from the start and not create uncertainty like we have now.

I'm OK with that and that is what might happen but the clubs will have to accept that there is going to be a huge financial hit . In Spurs last accounts revenue was £460 million, if a season is shortened as may happen they are going to see a massive reduction in that income many clubs will have to rethink wage bills and ridiculous transfer fees . Some people in football seem to think they can restart maybe June or so but ultimately it will be up to the Government, we may yet see a more extensive travel ban .

I rather they didn't bother if that's the case. No point playing without the fans

When football does start up again it's arguable that footballers will be in a state of mind to actually play, in fact anyone who is associated with football will take a while to get over this crisis.

missing a whole season would more likely see 20-30 of the league 1 and league 2 clubs go out of business completely. it would only happen if every player of every club accepted a massive wage cut for the 1 season

I agree but the clubs may argue that things need to be sorted, promotion chasing clubs will feel they could’ve been millions richer and then it may open up all kind of lawsuits

It wouldn't be a problem if the government established a crisis trust fund for sports, all sports as loads of both individual and team sports will be extremely hard hit by this, and if the PL showed some solidarity for a change.

I know it's wishful thinking but it really shouldn't be an issue given the money sloshing around at the top level.

It’s really quite simple. Extend the season to incorporate next season. All clubs keep their current points and therefore no line loses out. Of course there is financial losses for the likes of Leeds who miss out on Premier League money but at least they get ET the money from the matches they would otherwise have lost. In effect we have a 76 game season.

CL/Europa/National Cup competitions continues as is (eg not start Fresh next season)and the extra dates in the calendar allows the national leagues to catch up with the season 1 games.

End the F’ng thing this season! Rather than all this bollocks about one thing or the other! Life is more important than anything right now! Even if next season is moved back couple months before it starts.

fed up of all this talk about them ‘games must be played etc’ at some point. I can’t believe how some of us are still discussing ways to extend. I do understand it is forum, and I do respect all the comments. I just find it humanely bazaar.

if it hit a whole season then the prem clubs wouldn't be able to help. as someone mentioned earlier our turnover last season was 460m, with higher crowds if this season finished it would be pushing close to 600m. the sloshing money would hit every club, if they canceled the whole season no TV money, not sponsorship dosh and not anywhere as much merchandise would even cripple some premier league teams, and also hit the Championship

those lower leagues must push 250k+ each a season so imagine the government handing out 12m+ to cover that.

what people are not mentioning much if at all, after this finishes there will more likely be another recession hitting.

Unfortunately in the Premier League it is now official, TV money is more important than fans according to the PFA https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52006755 . Playing games behind closed doors is OK for the PL but it will not help the likes of Rochdale etc having to play behind closed doors with no income, if that does happen.

Without medical intervention we have no exit strategy. This pandemic will be around for at least a year. This season is absolutely 100% done.

I also don’t know how anyone could expect players to play under these circumstances until themselves and their families are all safe. It’s our generations war.

At this point, I don’t see any reason why the FA would allow the remainder of the season to be played. One thing is playing behind closed doors, but you have to remember that there are 22 players out there that will face each other. People are self-isolating and others are kept in quarantine because of this vile virus. Players and managers already reported to have contracted the virus. There’s a lockdown throughout almost all of Europe. People dying each day. It’s not right going through with this season just because some demands it.

stay safe
