The season is over now.

Can't win a trophy and can't realistically finish top 4.

Jose needs to start the clear-out now by not playing the players he thinks aren't in his plans for next season.

Play the kids if you have to, but start trying to put into place an actual fixed plan that new players can come into.

Only issue here, is that I worry that through a combination of our players being completely disinterested, and Mourinho refusing to admit anything he does is wrong, we'll end up with a situation where everyone bar Kane and Son fall into that category.

I'm pretty certain that happened last night

Mourinho's record after 2/3 of this season will be grim. It's already bad enough without contemplating fewer than a couple of wins in the last 9 games, possibly none at all. These cup exits are incredibly lame. This one was not a contest and the loss to Norwich was supposedly the type of thing that wouldn't happen under a "serial winner". He really needs to change the tune in these weeks ahead because it could be hard to recover from it.

There are all sorts of issues, including bad luck, but he hasn't been very dynamic, hasn't made us hard to beat, and has us standing off every side we meet. We have an inferiority complex now that makes us look beaten before kick off.

I'll be amazed if he's not given the summer and the start of next season. But it'll need a 180 degree turn around to race out of the blocks in August. My fear is he'll dig us deeper into the mire in that time. And only the signing of Bergwijn, who has been more than decent, offers some antidote to that dread.

I mentioned this in the ENIC chat. The board took it for granted with Poch and it looks like they took it for granted that Jose would come in and instantaneously changed things around this season.

I worry for this club's immediate future. I really do.

They provided Poch with a squad capable of winning something, he failed and it's time we accepted that.

Now they have to do with the same for Jose.

They didnt provide him with anything

He made that squad.

You think they said - here ya go have a 200m striker? nah instead they said heres your 5m MK Dons player (which was great by the way in my view)

There have been two or three key instances where if we had a few transfers like the Van Dijk/Alisson type transfers could have progressed massively - back when Harry was in charge and we got Saha/Nelson and in 2018

What's he supposed to do though? Magic ability into players who have seen their best days and others who are at best, average? I cant think of a manager who could get this sorry lot playing well. Not with all the injury problems, which I believe blame can be laid at the previous coaches door.

If only we could sack Poch twice the **** :ROFLMAO:

Not quite true. Poch built a squad capable of winning things through a combination of astute signings, emergence of Kane and a well coached, motivated and hungry squad. This was not put on a plate for Poch by Levy, he grafted, shaped and provided the self belief needed to accomplish this.

I said in jest when we appointed him that we'll be the only club he wins nothing with. That wasn't a dig against him or that I don't want him here, I do and I want him to succeed where Poch failed.

We just don't have the winning mentality as a club. Its Poch's biggest filing that he did not instil that into us. and we will ocntinue to carry on as we are until someone can. It's a bigger job than 1 man (the manager) is capable of so it's unfair to blame Jose at this stage, but it should be led by him.

Part of me thinks this is playing right into Jose's hands. Next season when everyone has written us off and we're getting it from all angles the siege mentality will properly set in.

The shower of shite is this thread is laughable.

RB Leipzig seemed fairly attack minded playing with a back 5; we matched them up; the difference being our 3 CBs couldn’t beat the press consistently enough; this in my opinion is for a number of reasons; we had a LB who gave the ball away practically every time he touched it and a RB not much better; we had one CM who did exactly the same even on the occasions when we did break the initial line of the press; we have a front three who are leggy at best maybe even exhausted; none of who are particularly good at keeping the ball or using it intelligently when they manage to (fatigue is a factor here obviously, but there is an element of this just not being a strength of those currently available for selection); we had a five on two at one point and fluffed a 5 yard pass that ended up behind Lo Celso.

Even on the occasions we got in behind or in good positions wide we hit the first man or there was no one in the box; none of this is down to the manager.

We have players that are physically and mentally wrecked, we need to cut them some slack and the manager too.

Painful Rebuild.

Any manager - any - would have seen this. Poch did but his time was up. It happens.

Jose knows this. He thought he could maybe get a tune out of the squad but he knows now what he probably knew before and what Poch knew and what any fucking manager worth their salt would have known - Painful Rebuild.

This is it.

The issue is whether you want to go through with the rebuild with a Poch or a Jose.

Jose's football, when it isn't getting the shithoused victories it sets out to, is awful.

I think if the players buy into it and he gets a couple more players he wants, we'll see beyond it. If it brings success.

All this talk of a 'modern, pressing' game. I mean yes, but most teams do this. Have we got the money to go toe to toe with the usual suspects? Probably not.

All we can do is ride the rest of the season out. Looking very likely to be out of Europa too.

The reason that so many teams employ the 'modern pressing game' is that it was identified as a very effective way to play against teams the way Mourinho and Co habitually set up back in the day. Mourinho continues to prove the point by employing 'old hat' tactics that are well past their sell by date.

Are you genuinely telling me that our squad, even with injuries, isn't better than the likes of Southampton, Burnley, Norwich and Villa, all of whom have outplayed us to certain extents in the last few months?

Some people are making it sound like Mourinho is working with the worst squad in the league. It simply isn't the case.

Not the worst, no. But bang average players bar a couple of exceptions? Yes. This isn't Mourinho specific. These same.players (mostly) were gash under Pochettino in his final months. He didnt have he injury crisis either. They have run their course.

What manager would you suggest could get a tune from them?

Of course not, but right now they all have a fitter, more balanced squad (with actual strikers), and may even have less defenders/goalkeepers making costly and blatant errors on a game by game basis than we currently do.

If Mourinho had access to the whole pool of fit players across all of those sides for the Utd game, I don't think many of ours would be playing in their current state. Bear with me here. Lets take a quick pick out of those sides.

Pope, Aarons, Godfrey, Tarkowski, Mings, McNeill, Hojberg, Grealish, Cantwell, Ings, Pukki

Jose would probably have a better shot at getting a result with that lot right now. Lo Celso 100% gets in and Dele probably does too (on rep if anything), maybe Sanchez and possibly Moura if you want some pace and width (although that also brings the likes of Buendia and Redmond into play). Players you'd consider to be top quality like Toby and Jan just look done right now. Lloris' mistakes are coming thick and fast. It's damning.

Some of it is on Mourinho for sure - I was hoping for a lot more - but the way things are right now is particularly dire. The thing that's scary to me is that I think the players are actually giving their all right now, whereas towards the end of Poch's tenure you could at least write it off as the players and Poch under-performing because they checked out mentally. The reality is we are fundamentally broken and it's a huge worry. With a proper preseason and a full bill of health, there is still the basis of a CL worthy squad to build on, if we can somehow keep hold of our best players (i.e. the injured ones).

Now some will look at this post and think I've jumped the shark, but actually look at those names and our players right now and tell me how many Spurs players you'd honestly put in vs Utd at the weekend?

In reference to the way he physically beasted players? I wanted him to remain, for what it's worth as I couldn't see anyone making this current squad do any better. JM not getting a.tune from.them proves it really. But the injuries sustained cannot be coincidental to how they were put through the mill.

Even poch said the team was pretty much done in and needed a slow rebuild etc etc.

But for all the JM bashing, I've yet to see anyone suggest what he could.do better with the players that makes any sense. So, as per my point above, this squad barring a few exceptions, is average. Otherwise they'd have played put of the malaise by now under 2 coaches

We have some decent players, but we don't have a balanced squad. We also have too many players that can't be relied upon, whether in terms of fitness (Lamela), ability (Aurier), commitment (Ndombele) and longevity (Toby and Jan). We also have too many "much-of-a-muchness" players, which limits our options tactically.

But there is quality in the squad...and Mourinho for all the money his being paid should find the solutions and stop complaining about injuries and stop calling individual out.

I'd honestly hope that a manager we are paying 15m a year (or whatever it is) can at least make them hard to beat.

That has to be the very minimum.

We've actually got worse defensively under Mourinho and without the same excuse of injuries.

We don't have a system. We don't have a regular approach to games. It's just incredibly random and I honestly think a lot of managers could do better than he's doing right now.
