Classic fan.

Expecting 5 maybe 6 new players in the summer or else it's all guns blazing.

I'm gonna bet those 5 or 6 players better be to your exact liking or else you'll still have the knives out.
What a very strange comment. We need 5-6 players to get back to where we want and need to be. Right now we’ve gone from a few seasons ago 2nd best team in the prem and last season CL finalists to now having a near mid table team and squad with 5-6 glaring weaknesses as a result of 2 previous transfer windows of no player incomings at all so we need to have a big summer to make up for that.

Do you not see these weaknesses and want us to improve as a team back to where we were?

Specifically which bits fill you with no confidence that we will address key areas of the squad that need improving?

The concerning bit for me is the "little correlation between money spent and winning". That may be broadly true across all of European football but very much isn't in the modern English game. On the other hand, this is also someone else's distilled interpretation of what was no doubt a much longer discussion and Levy isn't a moron, so...

Also, the bit about last summer's business is massive hindsight. As well as Lo Celso, Ndombele was exactly the sort of signing that clubs in that position make. Sessegnon would also have been expected to make far more of an impact than he has and, in the meantime, we've made a good signing in Bergwijn.
Yes that part was the main concern but there were other worrying parts as well. And whilst Levy is not a moron in a business sense he doesn’t really have a clue on the football side which is why we’ve won fuck all under ENIC and keep taking one step forwards then two back.

Agree Ndomble should’ve been better but that’s yet another mistake from the club in recruitment, we could’ve spent half of the £65mil on Grealish who would’ve easily come in and done a great job for us and going into the season with no back up striker was absolute negligence of the highest order and we are paying for it now.

I have no problem with the spending its buying the right players that seems to be a problem .
Sessegnon jury is out
Ndombele looks like an expensive mistake
Gedson up to now just seems not good enough
Clarke showing no signs of being a good player
Bergwijn for me is not the real deal the goal in the first game brought him a lot of time with some fans . One swallow does not make summer .
It seems that Lo celso has been our only good buy and perhaps the people responsible for identifying players is not up to scratch .

how are your plans to cancel xmas going?

My holidays birthday and xmas have all been cancelled because I can't see a light at the end of the tunnel .
In fact I have been an optimist even in the Graham / Francis / Hoddle / Ramos / Santini / Gross etc years but I am all out of optimism and can see only downwards its sad but that's how I feel and at 76 years of age I am running out of time great stadium great training ground but 1 trophy in twenty years for a club of Spurs stature is just not right .
Is it all the managers or all the players at fault for the lack of silver wear ? Well the only constant is ENIC Lewis and Levy perhaps just perhaps maybe they are the reason for lack of success on the field of play .
TO DARE IS TO DO my arce it is .

It pains me to say this, but mid table mediocrity is where we're heading for the foreseeable future.

This will be our last CL game for some years to come.

I dont think it'll be that bad. We'll be in amongst it to some degree but ultimately they'll be not quite enough investment in the playing staff and a turnover of management when things don't go well.

Mourinho was brought in to keep players, motivate players and to instill a winning mentality by winning something.

I don't think he'll get that chance.

I'd like to share your optimism @nedley, but I can't bring myself to it. I've been through the rinse and repeat cycle of the pre-Poch days and this is no different.

Poch or Mourinho were never really the problem. The root cause has always been DL. This season has confirmed so many things regarding the direction of our club that I can't help but feel utterly demoralised at the state of things to come.

Where are we heading Levy? What are we trying to achieve?
This is the big question; we have no discernible plan in a footballing sense - the fans will not carry on dancing to the pied piper unless they see a tangible ambition to win trophies.

This is what worries me. I feel like whoever is manager, there is no strategy to support what happens on the pitch. Ok, we could get a manager in to play nice football, which would placate the fans but it's hard to really see where we progress - certainly not to the point that we thought that we were reaching a couple of seasons or so ago.

I have two thoughts.

I like ENIC but they need to do better. They are not perfect and never will be. Still there's room for improvement (hire a Director of Scouting, entrust more people to handle player recruitment and transfers, etc).

There are not many other good options instead of ENIC. If they do sell which they probably will, I just hope it'll be a new ownership as good or better than ENIC. Unfortunately not too many out there that can afford the price tag.

ENIC will not sell right now. They just a massive chunk of money wiped off the value of the club now that we won't be in champions League next season.

In the summer we will sign three £50m+ players good enough to get us in top 4 but not be title challengers and then they will sell

Be careful what you wish for folks. No European football. Empty stadia with Coronavirus. Huge debt to pay for. All good news.

We've been told that our parsimonious approach means we can never 'do a Leeds' so don't worry about it mate. Wonder if we can 'do a Newcastle' though...

For me Levy's most obvious blind spot is the correlation of income with success, actually winning trophies! All the biggest clubs in our league with the largest income streams have all won the top trophies, this fact seems lost on Levy, he seems to believe that just participating in the CL is going open up the revenue floodgates whilst failing to realise that new support needed to feed that flood needs to see Spurs win the top trophies!!

I don’t think it is lost on Levy. It’s why we built the stadium in the first place. To have that income that the big sides have. His fully aware of the correlation between the two.

With FFP any team who wants to have sustained success on the pitch will have to go through the same process as us. Having the infrastructure there is key.

I think Enic are at the stage where they just have to spend on player transfers, despite what Levy said last week..

We went two summers without spending a cent and had UCL footy so they made a fair profit in those years but with the downward spiral that we are now in, if they dont spend big we will continue the downward trend and possibly lose some important players who have bigger ambitions that to just line their pockets. That means they will not be making the big money that they had been making over those couple of years.

This of course, assumes that they are more concerned about making money than winning games which may be the case as evidenced by not investing in a striker as we seemed to get away with winning with attacking mids.

What they dont seem to understand is that you have to win games to make money.
