I agreed with you that blaming the medical team is unfounded, I took issue with it being called bad luck and you also seem to be at odds with it being down to luck by mentioning the training methods and tactics. Yes injuries are part and parcel of the game, but when we have this week suffered a Ben Davies injury who started 3 games in a row after being injured for how long and then a new player who let's face it has been running on fumes the past 4 or more games as he tries to get to grips with the lead now also suffering an injury, that's not luck imo that's down to the squad management which arguably has been dictated by poor decision making.
As you mentioned Ben Davies and Bergwijn within a week being injured is bad luck as I understand it...other people might blame the medical team, the scheduling of games, tactics, fitness coaches, the manager not listening.

I've seen that firsthand. I worked a 2 MLS teams on the sports science setups and this is unfortunately a way of life.

Managers rushing players back- I actually heard a quite a few managers say that " i'd rather have a 50% John Smith playing rather than him missing the game" without truly understanding the consequences of rushing an injured player back. With the stakes being incredibly high in the league and managers wanting their best players available to help win games, this becomes a prevalent issue. Unfortunately, this can be damaging to the player on a two levels. First, physically because the likely hood of injury is increased. Secondly, mentally because if a manager is personally nudging a player to play who isn't fit, the player might feel that failing to do so will affect any future starts or minutes on the field or worse lose the managers faith in him. All of which lead invariably back to more time on the physio table.

Its no surprise that it is happening and that is because the squad and back up players isnt very good which then boils down to us neglecting the squad. It all stems from that as the root cause in my view.

Youre so right about the mental thing especially thinking that someone like Jose has had history (Luke Shaw) with doubting when a player is injured and doesnt want to be on the receiving end of crap (although appreciate that this inury issue has been prevalent from way back when)

Both, probably.

But we're fucked either way - these players need to play because the squad is stretched...people have been asking for Vertonghen to get dropped as his legs have gone so the alternative is Davies likewise Steve has been forced to play due to injuries.

A mixture of bad planning, bad luck and ban management but one doesn't happen without the other however you simply cannot legislate for injuries especially key ones.

For me that’s our starting front 3 all out (Kane, Son and Bergwijn) like to see Liverpool’s chances of progressing in the UCL with Salah, Mane and Firmino all missing!

It's not luck is it. It's about running players into the ground through hard fitness training and lack of rotation, over a long period of time.

Fuck sake, such shit luck we got. Couldn't believe it when the official app notified on this bad news. Likely out of the season now isn't it?

Why Liverpool players never got such injuries. Why Auba never injured. Why Willian, Mason Mount, Azipelecueta and Alonso never injured. Why Bruno never gets injured coming from Portuguese league without any problem of acclimatisation.

But why we got Kane, Son, Sissoko, Davies, Bergwijn, Lloris, Foyth, Sess all injured/injured before.

Why?! :banghead:

I think what irritates me about calling it bad luck as the idea that we can't learn from it. I mean we faced a similar situation last season and we haven't learnt from it. I think all of our injuries with the exception of Son which was an impact injury, might have been avoided, that's not to say you can avoid injuries entirely but the injuries besides Son you can see a cause and effect and we can should be learning to better deal with it. So when we talk about the idea that we can't legislate for big injuries then it feels like we're doomed to repeat ourselves.

It’s a squad issue IMO. Last season we didn’t have the numbers to be able to rotate key players despite the fact that we were dealing with more World Cup fatigue than any club in the world bar Real Madrid and they were absolutely run into the ground.

This season the lack of a Llorente replacement meant there was no rotating Son once Kane went down, and then once Son was injured we were right back in the position of playing the same three attackers in nearly every match. It would have required massive good fortune for none of them to get injured under that sort of workload.

The lack of investment in the squad has simply been too much to cope with the past two seasons. We dug ourselves into a deep hole in summer 2018 and have yet to get out of it despite the money we’ve spent.

Can't understand why Jose is getting flak for this. He's incredibly limited on options.

Sessegnon - been injured
Lamela - been injured (can't play consecutive games)
Parrott - not ready
The rest of the attackers can't play every game so Jose has been trying to rotate. But now Bergwijn has gotten injured before it was his turn - which I'm sure would have happened as soon as Sess was ready.

Why not play midfielders and less attackers then?

Well Ndombele can't be trusted to play every game and needs his game time limiting while he gets up to speed.

Lo Celso - he can't play every game, needs the odd game out and we tried it against Burnley but he was clearly needed.

Skipp - maybe he could have played sooner but it makes sense to try the more experienced players before him.

Gedson - just arrived so needs bedding in and seen as we have more players in midfield it's been better to ease him in.

Seriously, this situation is all on Levy, the club and Poch's heavy training prior to this season. Jose is literally trying to fill a puzzle that already had pieces missing, and now every time he moves a new piece in, another gets taken off the table.

We just have to support the team as best we can until May and HOPE that Levy and the club address the squad imbalances this summer and also take a deep look into our injury issues. Because right now, we are screwed.

Blessing in disguise maybe.

Play all the kids. What have we got to lose now

Was just thinking big chance for sess now, I assume he must be a nailed on starter for alot of the remaining games

Do we have anything promising coming through the academy

Quite possible that ours were playing an ultra intensive, high-pressing game on top of a small squad, no youth integration, low rotation, European and International football and demanding double training sessions for years. You don't just recover from that.
