Bipolar Spurs in one thread. One minute he's the lionel Messi of MF and the next he's Stambouli reincarnate.

Based on what we assumed he was going to be or what he has actually been showing for us? On the evidence of games he’s played for us he doesn’t really get the ball deep and drive effectively, he falls over more often than not. He isn’t reading the game in front of him, he seems very much an instinctual player. Those instincts maybe better suited higher up where he doesn’t have to read the game and he doesn’t have to have as much defensive responsibility (I’d go as far as saying he is the worst defender of any midfielder we’ve played in the last 3 years based on what he has shown so far)

I posted a chart a few pages back which says he has the highest successful dribbles ratio per 90 this season which suggests that he is driving forward and beating players. Haven't seen much of the evidence of him falling over when he has the ball.

He reminds me of me !!
Maybe when he gets fully fit and stops eating those pies, we might even SEE what we have bought. I don't think that Maurinho will ever find out !!

It was every time he had the ball on Saturday. He just went to ground over and over again. He might have beat the first man but then a guy would brush him and he’d go down.

He can definitely dribble, he can definitely pass, it’s all of the other parts of his game that seem to be way off.

One match...so more often that not then :)

There's definitely a player in there, as I keep mentioning he needs to up his mentality, I didn't like what I saw on Saturday, kept going to ground too easily and just didn't fancy it - he needs to toughen up if he wants to become a star.

We need to give him time like everyone else. Some good players don't hit the ground running in this league, im sure son didn't but look at him now. Its a tough league. If he doesnt hit the ground running and looking good start of next season then I'd be worried.

Well he’s been doing it in other games too and every time he gets up he appears to be hurt. Sure there is a player in there but he’s not playing well enough to play in the centre of midfield. Maybe if he was higher up his ability to pick up free kicks would be more valuable or the players wouldn’t hack him so much because of the danger of giving away a goal scoring opportunity. Turn his weakness into a strength?

Of what I have seen up to now Ndombele has been pants but I have to say Locelso was also not very good at his start but seems to have come good . We can only hope Tunguy will come good albeit a bit longer than Lo Celso.

He's definitely better as a deeper midfielder IMO, I don't think he's worth a starting spot in any position at the moment and that's probably the truth of it, it doesn't matter where we play him because he'll be as equally as ineffective in either position...he's just got to work on himself and get his head right, might take a few months but I've written this season off for him as a settling in period, hope he comes back stronger next season.

Fat, thin, fit or otherwise, he's earning 200k a week.

He's taking the piss is what he's doing.

Love him when he's on the ball, he's got that rare ability to get you off your seat, even as a midfielder and always looks like he'll do something positive... For 20 mins. That's not good enough I'm afraid.

Let's give him more time, including another pre season, but if you asked me now if I'd swap with Grealish?... Tough decision

You act as if he's doing it on purpose...

It's not his fault he played really well to capture the attention of Europe's biggest clubs and it's not his fault that we gave him £200k a week, it's our own fault that we didn't do our due diligence...he is obviously a player who needs time to settle, isn't the first and won't be the last, he's our problem now so we just got to deal with him and help him out as much as possible.

There's a really weird narrative in this thread that he is stealing a living or taking the piss out of us. You can see the boy has ability and when he's on the ball he can play for sure. It's all about getting past the mental block of the physical premier league battle; he's ambitious of course! do you think he wants to stroll around and be a failure hear?

Time to settle is one thing, being physically fit is another. He's been here for nearly 7 months. That's enough for anybody to get fit. I refuse to believe we've not given him sufficient time to get himself in a condition to play 90 minutes.

Of course nobody wants to be a failure and if nothing else, that's what baffles me about it all. If that was me, I'd be doing EVERYTHING I could to ensure I succeeded.

The fact he's being put on special diets, fitness regimes etc shows he's not living correctly. He's got top class strength and conditioning coaches, as well as nutritionists and all sorts of help.

Sissoko is the ultimate example. He was shit for 2 years when he joined us, but you could never fault his effort, and he got his rewards. Hopefully we'll see the same.

Grealish gets kicked basically for 90 mins game after game after game. Tanguy gets a little tap and he's down for 5 minutes. He needs to toughen up (and I accept that this side of his game may take some time to adapt).

I'm sorry, but Grealish goes down so easily.

Grealish does go down easily, but he is definitely more robust than Ndombele, who seems to be really shaken by each hit. He isn’t just adjusting to the pace of the game over here, but also the intensity, the hits are harder and more frequent. That takes getting used to, especially when you’re feeling weak anyway.

A trick and and eye for a pass are all when and good, but if you're not mobile and able to cope with the pace, intensity and hits that come with life in the PL then you're toast. Modric took time to adjust to the physicality, but his general fitness and ability to run both ways was never in doubt. This guy looks like he's blowing out of his arse after thirty minutes.

Anyone else think we’ll look to offload early and recoup as much as possible for a rebuild/players Jose does want?

I hope we don’t but I can see Jose ever falling in love with him unless he suddenly improves his fitness and physicality.

I doubt it as ITK's have suggested that Jose really rates him and wants to build the side around him.
