Think that's a bit of a strawman, I'm just pointing out that developing a player is handled by a different part of the spurs staff than the scouting department. The original posters point is that the clubs he mentioned seemed to be able to find top talents for extremely low prices like clockwork. You naming two talents who took years to develop isn't nearly the same thing as the point he was making.

It's exactly the point he was making.

Our scouting / youth network identified Kane and bale for our youth and academy development teams.

The point of scouting is to identify potential, not identify Messi as one to keep an eye on.

There is not another club in the world he wouldn't kill to have identified and snapped up Kane and Bale before we did. (And Alli).

I think sometimes it's a case of grass is always greener with fans. My point is we have a fairly good record over the last decade of snapping up mega stars for next to nothing.

I think we've done pretty well in the grand scheme of things, however I think the likes of Dortmund, Benfica, Athletico arguably Leipzeig have better infrastructures than ours because of the the quality that they recruit at relative to their stature and resources (though Athletico due to their fantastic infrastructure have vastly improved their standing and have gone on to attract even higher quality). That's not a slight at Spurs I'm just impressed with those clubs and maybe we could learn from them and become even better.

We are a club that has identified and given opportunities to the likes of Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Eriksen, Kane, Walker, Rose, Winks, Dele, Son, Alderweireld after a failed spell at Atletico Madrid etc.

Coaching is vital but right there off the top of my head are a dozen massively talented footballers that really made their name whilst at the club. We were not even qualifying for the Europa League when that quality started dripping through, its signing slike those compared to other teams that were mid table at the time that has helped us get to where we are now.

Yes they do well and are a good example. But I think as an example of frugal development and sensible buying we stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone.

We've basically been running at a net spend of almost nothing for years and ended up competing for the premier league title and in the champions League final so not sure we should downplay our progress in comparison.

Look at their leagues. The German, Portuguese, Spanish etc it's nowhere near as saturated as our leagues are. Teams like Dortmund can risk a youngster more than us as they are pretty much guaranteed most seasons a genuine chance of finishing 2nd or 3rd. Altletico Madrid the same, if they sign a dud it doesn't flatline them massively regarding minimum requirements for league finishes.

We are the 6th biggest club in the country and we have been punching for half a decade now. All with no sugar daddy owner I think our scouting is slightly better than some give us credit for, the risk of signing poor players in the English game can set you back years, just ask the likes of Aston Villa, Leeds United and Arsenal etc not many massive teams fall away in the German, Portuguese or Spanish leagues for a while and struggle to return to the place they believe is rightfully theirs.

P.S Dortmund, the team we have knocked out of Europe how many seasons recently now? They do well but any team that's the 2nd biggest in their country would and simply put, we aren't that to the English game.

To be fair I said relative to their stature and resource but I agree with your points and we do deserve more credit.

Exactly.

Look at teams like Southampton. Had a great youth academy and when they were in the lower leagues regularly promoted their young players to the first team squad. Once in the Prem with relegation a real threat and they haven't had any real success with their youth players since. Shaw was sold quickly, Taggart didn't make the grade and despite the potential Ward-Prowse hasn't achieved much.

We had some successful with developing young players when we were 5th and could buy talented young players, as we could give them game time. Since breaking into the top four it has been harder.

France is an absolute hot bed for talent, part of that is their top young players get game time from a young age.

If you want to know what next window looks like ...read below...I feel he (Campos) is coming here....
In fact you could argue just get him in and he and Jose will do the rest...
BTW if we do then all the metrics in past windows can go out the window as 3 or 4 years of Campos and Mourinho should revolutionize the way the game works.

I think one ITK mentioned he might not come as Levy doesn't want to lose control of transfers

Good to hear Jose talking about younger players in today's press conference i.e Skipp etc , he came with the reputation of being a big money signing manager but he had the confidence to put in Tananga against Liverpool and Man City reckon Skipp, Parrott and Cirkin can look forward to chances in the future.

I've been very impressed with him so far. He has managed our squad extremely well and done some very clever tactical things to get the best out of it. He hasn't got too carried away with the victories or too downbeat about the defeats. He has just gone about his business calmly, quietly and very professionally.

If we can get him a competitive squad, he will win things. No doubt in my mind at all.

Pleasantly surprised.

If Liverpool hadn’t bought VVD and Allison as they were building a new stadium and fell short in 2nd / 3rd they’d be in the same boat as us. We have to factor in that the new stadium came at the worst time in terms of us taking that next step.

Hardly. We are now 4th in the list of most expensive/ valuable clubs in the world.

We are playing the long game here dude.

It's great hearing him talking about the importance of the FA Cup. If we could win that under him it would be the best thing to happen to Spurs since I've been watching us (1995/96), including appearing in the CL final. Love the fact that Jose leans towards the idea that winning trophies should be the single most important priority for a football club.

Well yes, now we are. But we weren't until the stadium build was well under way - spending the increased revenue on players (outside of the massive salary increases the top players received) would not have been particularly prudent, especially once things started going wrong on site.

You're absolutely right that we've been playing the long game, but the appointment of one of the most successful managers ever and large amounts of money being invested in some of Europe's brightest young players suggest, to me at least, that we're reaching the final stages of that game.

Love how he called out Danny rose in his latest press conference saying he played him against Liverpool Olympiakos and Bayern so rose saying he got not chances is bs. So glad how ruthless Jose is, I always felt Poch was a little too nice and forgiving.

What people don’t recognise as much about mouriniho is that it’s not just about his tactics but he knows what makes a successful dressing room, when he was at certain clubs he identified the need for more winners and leaders, I think and hope he will do the same with us as that is something we’ve always lacked to get us over the line. I think the following are proper winners and good characters but we need more:
lloris (not the best leader but very experienced)
toby (leader)
davies (experience and solid nature)
winks (pure passion, winner)
lo celso & lamela (Argentine fight)
lucas (works so hard, proper pro)
kane (leader,winner)

of those I’d say Toby and Kane and to an extent lloris are the main leaders but we could do with a few more.
