Kerry Dixon, Graeme Sounness, Jamie Redknapp, Peter Crouch.....any blatantly obvious ones who had genuine time at the club that opted out and enjoyed fruitful careers at big clubs? Interesting subject whoever raised this one

redknapp was never with us as a kid.

ok fair enough, he was.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Redknapp

Redknapp was born in Barton on Sea, Hampshire and started his career at Tottenham Hotspur as a youth player but turned down their offer of a contract, deciding to play for Bournemouth under his father, manager Harry Redknapp. He went on to play for Liverpool where Redknapp would be remembered for his best performances. After that Redknapp returned and played two and a half seasons for Tottenham Hotspur then finally joined Southampton, where he played under his father for a second time. Redknapp was also capped 17 times by England, scoring one goal.

I'd never heard of this until now.

Yet the Official Site has a couple of archived pages on where ex-players were plying their trade once they'd left Tottenham. And, if you look under 'W', you'll see that Des Walker is down as a former youth player...

https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news-archive-1/life-after-the-lane-1/

Which means he probably grew up imagining scoring the winning goal in a FA Cup Final for Tottenham...

Mind.

Blown.

I think it may have been Walker that was released after he refused to get a haircut.

Has anyone mentioned Adam Smith?

Not a world beater, but quite a decent RB. I’d take him on the team right now to be honest.

I think you've made some pretty big jumps there.

Sanchez and Foyth look like much better players than Veljkovic. I don't think playing for a relegation favourite side makes you suddenly just as good as either of Sanchez or Foyth.

As I said he's been there for 3 years playing consistently, and they're having a bad season, this season. Foyth hasn't covered himself in glory when he's had chances and Sanchez hasn't exactly looked world class, though I like him. People already think Tangnaga appears better than him, so to think Veljkovic couldn't have performed at similar levels as those two, were he to be given a chance, in a better team isn't exactly a jump.

I completely forgot about him when I chose my best academy 11, but he'd be above Hinds but below KWP

Does anyone think KWP can have great season at Southampton and come back to claim a starting position here?

Looking at the potential new scholars for next season I would be surprised if they number greater than 8. As far as I can ascertain the following look certain ; - Dane Scarlett(FW)(Eng U16), Jordan Hackett(LB/CB)(Eng U16), Dante Casanova(FB/MF), Aaron Maguire(GK)(Eire U16 & EngU16) and Roshawn Mathurin(W).
From the rest of the U16's maybe Khalon Haysman(MF), Ben Watt(DF)(Eng u16) and Renaldo Torraj(W).

Outsiders from Oliver Turner(LB), Ferdinand Okoh(MF/CB), Mark Hudson(LB) and Hamid Abdul-Salam(DMF). Charlie Allen(MF) from N Ireland and Josh Aldridge(MF) from Cheltenham Town are also possibles.
Can any of our fellow contributors update or confirm the above or other names in the running.

Cheers for that. I was hoping that might explain it, but it's just left me more confused.

He said 3 times - he left (after 12 years) because of "Henry and his coaching staff" and to play in a "great league".

Why not have 18 months on loan, then fight for a first team place?

Would love to find out what went on here.

Good luck to the lad, but still baffled by it.

It sounds to me like it was his decision to move and I would not blame any player that would rather play first team football over u23 football because it is that bad.

Binks is pretty much having a working holiday/gap year in Canada. I can’t blame him tbh and the women are very cute.
