This whole situation with Bale is brought about by a severe case of unrequited love. I'm as guilty as anyone else having been caught up in the hype. The reality of the situation is that whilst Gareth Bale is adored by Tottenham fans across the globe, whilst he has been idolised to almost disproportionate levels, the feeling is not mutual. Yes I'm sure Gareth harbours a fondness for the club and fans that allowed him to elevate his status and bank balance to the levels it has been over the past few years, if he felt anywhere near the same, he'd have moved by now.

Whilst we all want to believe he is this passionate, loyal hardworking superstar that we all built him into, the reality is far from it. The very notion he would go to China last season shows exactly that. Had Ronaldo been in the same situation there is no way on gods earth he would have moved to China, and therein lies the difference. Gareth Bale has done wonders in football, but he's not the person we all build him up to be, and that's fine, but we all (myself included) need to accept it. Regardless of money and contracts etc. If he really wanted to he could be playing in front of fans who worship him like a god, sing his name from the rafters and love him unconditionally, reality is.....he's just not that into us!

I can understand, but it really is a case of head overruling the head in people wanting him back. We won't have the player we used to have, he'll be on 3x the wages, and there's doubt that he can play sufficient games a season to really justify having him here over say a Lamela.

We need to let go.

I did the moment he left. It's pitiful seeing the pining after him every transfer window.

I’d go along with the general thrust of your post - as fans we’re thinking of the fairytale return, but the reality would likely not live up to what we can dream. While I do still believe there is more than enough talent there for him to make an impact and a positive contribution, his playing time would need to be managed carefully to protect him from injury as far as possible. The wage issue is obviously huge, in a literal monetary sense as well as how the rest of the squad would feel it reflects on them. Even if he were to accept a huge drop we’d still likely be paying him 2-3 times as much as our current highest earners - he’s highly, highly unlikely to accept anything sub 200k, and I can’t really blame him. While I’m sure he thinks of his time here fondly and that he would see at least some appeal in returning and being appreciated by the fan base, I don’t think it would be enough to sway him. Now that the wage cap has been introduced in China, I would imagine his path will lead elsewhere in Europe, perhaps to PSG in France or to one of the bigger Italian clubs.

As far as Spurs go, I reckon we need to concentrate on being thankful for the likes of Kane and Son and also to look forward to seeing how far some of our exciting players will develop, particularly Bergwijn, Tanganga, Lo Celso and Ndombele. There are still big parts to the puzzle to find for the team, but there is also reason for optimism.

Agent: he'll see out his contract*

*Unless we can get a pay rise elsewhere.

I hope every GB threat just gets locked by the mods hereafter.

Lock this what’s becoming ridiculous thread. Understand the need for it before. His agent leaves a lot to be desired.

Barnett talks out of both sides of his mouth and doesnt shut up. Spurs aside, he does nothing to help Bale’s situation at Madrid which hardly needs exacerbating as is.

We are judged by the company we keep. So, this also says a lot about Bale. His agent is not his captor. Or his Dad. If Bale wants to do something, he will tell his agent to make it happen. If the said agent makes it impossible to carry out his client's wishes, then yes, he is a tool, and should be fired. But clearly he is still representing Bale. So, fault here goes to both parties. Both are idiots.

Agreed WAS a great player for us but as a person I don’t want him anywhere near our club or English football after the way he acted during Euro 16.
And to be honest he would spend more time in the treatment room than on the pitch, he was injury prone when we had him he wouldn’t be able to handle the premiership at 30 with his injury record
