Lo Celso again

7s (edit: and 6s) all round the rest

A small mention for JM as we somehow managed to avoid getting bummed and despite the fact that he should have closed the game down with 10 to go

Lo Celso legitimately the only player I would say had a good game. Maybe Tanganga. The rest were pretty bad.

I think he messed up. I was shouting for him to put Dier on and remove Son (not Dele) to lock shop before they equalized

Only one mom. GLC
Goal apart Aurier looking a player again.
Surprised Jose left r. edmond the freedom of the left last 15....i think he could have brought sessignon on for Son.

Lo Celso MOM by a country mile.

Lloris 6 - Stop playing it short FFS!
Aurier - 4 - Mainly for stupidly losing possession right at the death when we were 1-0 up. Idiot. He could have put his foot through it or even passed square, but he waited and lost it then tried to get a foul. Pathetic.
Alderweireld - 6 - Was lucky Ings did not have his shooting boots on as he had 2 or 3 clear cut chances.
Sanchez - 6 - Looked shaky throughout.
Tanganga - 7 - Our best defender, great goal line clearance.
Gedson - 6 - Did not do enough.
Winks - 7 - Still not a DCM.
Lo Celso - 9 - Sublime for our goal. The only player capable of consistently controlling and passing the ball to a fellow Spurs player.
Dele - 6 - Poor again.
Moura - 5 - Tried hard, missed a 1-on-1 and rarely threatened. Not a CF. Should be an impact sub.
Son - 5 - Poor control. Poor decision making. Poor passing.

Lamela - 7.5 - Showed some fight and set up a couple of chances.
Dier - par.

Mourinho -6 - Don't like our tactics at the moment, and it would appear our best players don't either (judging by their form).

Yes, he did. But that's just it....the goal is the most important part and he was idiotic. Trippier was hounded out of town for things like that no matter how well he played for 89 minutes a game.

9 - GLC

7 - Lloris, Winks, Lamela

6 - Dele, Toby, Tanganga

5 - Son (4 if he didnt score), Sanchez (many brainfart moments), Aurier (6 if he didnt make that error)

4 - Moura (ball bounced off him every single time), Gedson (he was like some bloke who woke up and found himself in the middle of the pitch)

NET - Dier

I agree, i went mental because in that one moment thats what he will be remembered for, and like you say, it was idiotic, but i liked alot of what he did today.

On another day he gets given a free kick. I thought the team as a whole lot played pretty good and had more than enough chances to win the match.

Gio is class and getting stronger, quicker, sharper and more confident with each game.

Everywhere else was a bit meh.
Wasteful from Son
Endeavour is not enough to make Moura anything more than an average player. Anywhere but along the floor and he scores.
The usual mix of slow and wasteful to the rare moment of class from Alli.
Gedson was invisible.
Winks wasn't great.
Tanganga tired badly and was deferring Redmond to son and even Sanchez at the end.
Sanchez, not a LCB. Having two right sided players on the left let us looking a bit exposed that side and lacking options to play out of defence.
Toby was OK.
Aurier wasn't bad until he tried to do who knows what when an easy square pass to Alli was on or just clear his lines.

We were obviously tired by the last 20 with a days less rest.

It's not about whether he gets a free kick on another day. It's the stupidity of dilly dallying on the ball in that position. Brainless.

So you don’t think he was tugged back? He was doing what every one of our players was doing. He doesn’t get fouled he doesn’t lose the ball. To say he’s stupid and brainless.....

Strongly disagree. Last few minutes, 1-0 up away form home. You get rid of the ball. Even before the so called 'foul' on him he had chances to get rid of it. Naive at best, negligent at worst. Idiotic.

I don't disagree with a possible tug, I disagree with Aurier decision making.....

If he plays the simple ball the way he's facing winks clears the ball.

Screenshot_20200125_173843.png

Instead he tries to turn inside his man allowing the Southampton player to close the space (in all likelihood winning the ball regardless of a tug due to his forward momentum)

The ball is then through the line leading directly to the goal.

In these key positions we need to start playing the percentages. It's not just Aurier, there are many culprits. We attempt to hold on to the ball where we should often play the way we are facing.

If you watch Liverpool they rarely get caught in posession because in the middle of the park they release the ball quickly when facing their own goal.
