Herc already mentioned that we want to replace Eriksen with a more defensive-minded player, which makes sense as it would allow Gio to push forward towards that no. 10 slot, where he is most effective. DM - Ndombele - GLC is a midfield we can build a contender around IMO.

What the fuck is all this XG shite? Same with all this Tier journo bollocks. Silly fucking nonsense.
xG is one of a bunch of advanced analytical metrics developed over the last decade that help evaluate football players and teams by providing additional data and context beyond what traditional metrics like counting stats can give - the kind of thing that successful teams in other sports have been using for years, and that Liverpool in particular have used to great effect in building their scouting and analytics department during their rebuild.

It has a bad reputation in some circles, mostly by being badly misused in internet discussions by people that want it to be some sort of be-all-end-all metric to support an opinion they have already decided is true. It's also very intentionally misunderstood by people who think that the only way to judge a player is to let Harry Redknapp watch two hours of game footage and decide if he is 'triffic enough, ignoring the obvious limitations and biases that are inherent to traditional scouting.

The club should look to get another creative player in, even though we have GLC.
Personally I wouldnt mind Maddison, but since hes english his price tag is probably insane.

where are they gonna play though? Alli is Mourinho’s favourite at number 10. Lo Celso looks like he will be a great player. NDombele will be a fixture when he’s fit. I don’t see us paying 80m+ for a squad player.

If we don’t get a DM in I’ll be sorely disappointed if Skipp is not at least given a chance to stake a claim to the position. A competent DM who can shield the back line and provide a platform for the likes of GLC and Ndombele would transform us at both ends of the pitch IMO, so if we’re not able to bring one in from outside the club we should at the very least give the likeliest candidate from the academy a chance to prove whether he’s up to the task.

That doesn't sound promising.
Considering we have barely been linked with anyone this week it's not a surprise is it? Only noise around one striker barely anyone knew about and what else? Just flimsy links to players leaving.

The tizzy some folks are going to have when it's Lo Celso with the shit eating contract signed grin on deadline day and Benteke arriving in an unmarked taxi late on the Friday it's going to tip someone over the egde.

I can see the argument for a player in the ilk of Bruno Fernandes tbh. Lo Celso and Ndombele seem plenty creative enough and whilst seem to have good vision and passing I'm not sure if they have the same variety of passing off of both feet that someone like Eriksen has, so that may be a bit of a weakness in our squad. It sounds like Bruno has that in his locker, as well as the long shots Eriksen was also great at.

With limited funds and other problem areas it seems like it'd be a weird place to spend big but Jose has regularly called upon Eriksen's skillset to try and turn around games or break teams down since he arrived. With that in mind a similar player may still be required for the squad.

We'll see, the market won't truly get going until early next week. I think we'll be on the lookout but not expecting anything mind blowing. I'm confident we'll get a striker (not Bentekkers).

I think fans also seem to forget this is not a one window rebuild.

There may be no DM players available that Jose wants, so if we are able to get someone like Bruno ( who Jose by all account wants) then we should do it. Lo Celso is not enough on his own. We made that mistake with Eriksen for several years and actually were very fortunate that he barely missed a game for 5 years.

We will still have money to spend in the summer for other areas ( or we certainly should do).

Think he'd be in direct competition with Dele and I can't see Mourinho viewing that as a priority.

Well I hope we arent hoping to replace his quality with the fee we will get for him. If his contract wasnt run down he would be a 70mill+ player.
Well we already did replace him with a 70m player, if we add another midfielder they are likely to be a 20m player that we are betting can turn into a 70m player, just like Eriksen did.

We as fans expect lots of things. Doesn’t mean jack shit in the cold light of day though. I’d expect him to be replaced by glc signing permanently and that’s it.

Since it's gotten a lot of attention I thought I'd explain for those unfamiliar, the whole "tier" system derives from Reddit, where the football forum has over 1.2 million members representing probably every single club on the planet. The whole idea is that judging the credibility of any given journalist involves far too many variables for any one person to have a grasp of, so crowdsourcing it on a club-by-club basis is the best way to get a handle on it.

At Spurs, for instance, most people who follow recruitment closely would be able to tell you that Dan KP was absolutely 100% spot on in the summer transfer window and should be considered highly credible, whereas your average supporter of any other club wouldn't have the slightest clue about Dan KP in particular.

The same dynamic is true for just about every club and the journalists covering it. Supporters know who is and is not worth listening to, and share that with the wider football community by labeling them with a tier ranking for their reporting on any given club. There's one reporter, Pedulla I think it is, who is considered Tier 1 for anything involving Sarri but considered far less credible for any other club. Followers of Sarri's clubs would know that, others would not. That's the kind of information the system exists to convey.

So one random bloke on Twitter unilaterally assigning tiers to reporters is worse than useless, it actively undermines the entire purpose of the idea, which is that crowdsourcing is necessary.
Thanks for that - interesting(ish).

Out of interest, has Dan KP's info ever made it over here?

Reading his article, he lists a whole host of names, including grealish, maddison, Cantwell, eze, fernandes and ziyech...but when he talks about each option, the only one that seems remotely doable is eze. Dont get me wrong, I think Eze will be a top player, but you dont replace a player like eriksen with a player with no top flight experience.
