So they are the man city of the rugby world?! :cautious:

Heard BOD give a reaction to it on BT the other day. He said it’s not good but he won’t complain one bit about their achievements in Europe. He said the French and Irish have been spending their way to trophies for years!

Which is true.

I know there are a few out there who don’t like Sarries but this is bollocks, how on earth are we meant to shift half the team out in a couple of months? Especially when none of the other clubs could afford them and the players won’t want to go anywhere else!

I don't see what the alternative is unfortunately. Sarries are by all accounts almost certainly going to break the cap again this season, it makes a mockery of the competition and raises all sorts of questions if another team is relegated at their expense (though the likes of Leicester and Wasps deserve it for being shite!). The resolution and punishment needs to draw a line under this eventually.

And this has been blatant cheating for years, assuming they'd never get done for it. A few years back they were guilty of overspending, but they and a couple of other clubs in the same boat (Bath being one of them I think) bullied the clubs into letting them off and raising the salary cap at the same time. They then immediately start overspending again despite the higher cap! And eventually pushed it too far and the others acted. To be honest Sarries are lucky they haven't already been booted out of the league.

Also don't think they've helped themselves. After the first verdict, and there were questions at the time about what the implications were for this season as it was a punishment for previous years, the reaction, especially from Mr Wray, was to bury their heads in the sand about it for a few months, denying they've done any wrong, and just carry on as usual. It's only in the last few days/weeks it seems they've woken up to the situation they're in, a new CEO/board is in, and they've started admitting they need to get rid of players. Maybe being contrite, and working with the relevant people earlier, they could have worked out a way to de-register players in the league etc. to at least show they're trying to get their house in order. Too late now it seems.

Though why this is all being done behind closed doors and the powers that be haven't come out and publicly explained the whole situation and the punishments handed down is baffling and actually quite disgraceful.

Will be interesting to see what the effect is on the international players. I suspect pay cuts (they'll have to, to get any new team) and most being loaned out whilst Sarries do their stint in the Championship.

Shouldn’t have broken it in the first place. I hope they are relegated, should have been in the first place. Cheating bastards

That's a problem that is 100% of Saracen's own making. How they get out of it is for the club and the players to sort out. They've blatantly cheated for years and the players would have known something fishy was going on with all the backhand and covert deals. No sympathy whatsoever and I only wish football would hand out this sort of punishment for cheting in this way. I doubt it will happen again in rugby but will continue unabated in football.

There was no way Sarries were going to be able to get under the cap this season and the RFU knew that.
Dillingham Park awaits next season, silly me, I was worried about a cricket score against Newcastle!
Bit of naivety here but is there a cap in the championship?

Exeter Chairman says:

"They've taken relegation. They had two choices: they could either open up their books for a forensic audit, or they could take relegation. So it was their choice. They have decided to take relegation."

As I said in a previous post, not sure why the relevant authorities have been so benevolent as to carry this all out behind closed doors. I think the fans of all clubs deserve to hear the whole truth.

There is no cap in the Championship, but Sarries wouldn't be allowed back in Premiership for the following season if we spend over the Premiership cap whilst in the Championship.

There is clearly some very underhanded dealings a foot which may cast players in a bad light would be my guess

Seeing some talk tonight that the next problem for Sarries will be that the current regs. apparently seem to state that any promoted club has to have passed the relevant salary cap stuff for two seasons...…. Which would be a problem.

Correct punishment for a club that has made a mockery of the last 5 years of Premiership rugby.

They deliberately cheated for 4 years in a row (and more than that if everyone is honest). They deserve everything they get.
