  1. Watch the whole press conference and if you didn’t before then you’ll understand afterwards just what a top top manager Jose is and that he can clearly see where we need to improve but that he’s been a bit hamstrung by coming in mid season and not having time to work with the players mid week and then on top of that a ton of injuries to key players
  2. Watch from 18 mins until the end and you’ll see how he wants us to play, it is not ‘hoofball’ it’s a progressive fast direct balanced 4-2-3-1 with a 4 in defending situations and a back 3 when we build up the play, he will also know and says basically how he’s figuring out game by game our strengths and weaknesses so he’ll know how to coach and improve those, things like shape off the ball, playing with width, concentration levels etc etc and he’ll also now know which players are up to the job and which areas we need signings to get us to the level he can get us to. I really think we all need to give this man patience and time to build something with us but ideally we get some signings to improve the squad ASAP so that build and progression happens as fast as possible

I agree with everything you say but already we’ve seen the media trying to undermine him in the last week. It only takes a few more bad results to sway the weak minded who have no patience to start tweeting, calling in radio shows, talking to SSN and eventually moaning at games to bring about negativity around the club. It just feels that’s what a section of the media are trying to do. It’s very frustrating and knowing our luck it does concern me.

Yep agreed he’s a natural defender and apart from jan is the only the player comfortable playing as a left back and inside left central defender in a back 3 . Davies is a defender and that is mainly his limitations. He is not a player that is happy being proactive in the final 3rd. No coincidence that Jose is following poch And seeing Davies versatility as a lot more valuable than what Danny rose can give, also a unselfish and good attitude helps

considering how good we were the 2nd half of the season in 16/17 and considering Rose was injured the 2nd half of the season, yet "the partnership of Rose and Walker" get all the credit hmmmmm

I'd give Mourinho some points if he can somehow manage to keep Kane away from the Euros as he suggested today with some subtlety (then again, I'm not English). If he doesn't return for us in April, I don't think we should be rushing him back to play in a summer tournament half-fit again.

Yeah it is a concern. They can't wait to jump on anything it seems.

Well the good news is that he won't be sacked within the year, which is ample time for him to get this team playing to how he wants. If that means were back fighting in the top 4, he'll be getting no pressure from the majority of the fans and he'll be meeting Levy's expectations. Of course if he falls out with Levy that will be another matter. But I can't see him struggling, I think he'll have a style imposed by next season and other than a couple of missing components we'll be doing fine.

Funnily enough getting knocked out one of the FA Cup or CL fairly early could really help Jose in terms of getting time on the training field with the players.

I feel like we're gradually improving defensively. Sanchez has been our best player under Mourinho by far. I'm confident he'll be able to find the rock solid pairing that he never quite had at United.

Unless some unexpected big players throw their toys out the pram you can surely see us being a lot more consistent if not spectacular by this time next year. Hopefully it will be enough to get us back into the CL because it's difficult to see it happening this season.

Yep agree with that as well but I’d like to think at the same time if he does start to really turn it around they would jump on that and make that into a story of what a great job he’s done, looking at it more positivity if he got us to FA cup final even for example then the headline becomes how Jose gets spurs to first FA CUP final in what 29 years is it?

we’ve also not won anything for 12 years so again if he can win something, anything then it’s again a remarkable job.

I agree the media are trying to twist things a bit which is a shame but Jose is like marmite, some journalists love him some hate him but he’s still got his aura and I feel IF he’s back in the right way he could make a really special story with us just like at Porto and imagine that what a way to possibly end your glittering club career by winning a trophy for a team who’s only won one major trophy in 28 years and winning them one in the most competitive era ever with a Lower budget etc, Jose could dine out on that forevermore it would be a bit fuck you and told you so to anyone who doubts him, trust me he won’t come out and say it but his n.o1 motivation will be to win something with us so he can ram it down the throats of the critics, I think he’s more motivated than ever arguably. Just have to hope we get through in the cup and start picking up wins in the league again as if results go badly then yes media and the less football educated fans may also lose patcience.

but I’m optimistic, starting with a win tomorrow

I really think he is exactly what we need and we would be in big trouble if we didn't make the change.

Saying that he has a big job ahead of him. He said he didn't see sissoko as a cm (he is not), Dier has issues, consistent illness/injury and still looks off the pace. Tanguy struggling with fitting into a new league fitness and injury issues. Wanyama gone. Which leaves him with winks (also fitness concerns), eriksen (on his way) and lo celso (new to the league).

He really is up shit creek without a paddle. So many players that need to go and we don't have settled (fully fit) players to replace them.

If he gets top 4 without Kane it would be a miracle, we need at least 3 players to be brought in this window.

The response to the Liverpool game from some in the media has been ridiculous. Daniel Storey, Jonathan Liew, Alan Smith at Football LDN all wrote pieces that were so blatantly cynical that they might as well have just posted "Jose negged me at a presser once and now I will grasp at anything to criticize him".

JM is certainly not above criticism and I'll be the first to point out when he deserves it, but the desperation to write him off shows in the weakness of their arguments. Smith even pointed out how we beat them 4-1 two years ago with largely the same team, completely ignoring that not one of VVD, Mane, Robertson or TAA was playing that day and Mignolet started in goal.

I'm beginning to understand why fans of the clubs he manages end up with a siege mentality, and maybe that's a good thing. This tweet basically sums it up for me:

I'm usually a fan of Liew but it was a really poor article, some (including a section of our fan Base) have made their mind up before he's even got started.

They all fail to mention that the mess he's inherited was in part created by one of their favourites in Poch.

There's no way he will get the England captain to miss what is effectively a home tournament.

And I don't know why it seems to be just down to the England manager to rest Kane. It's up to Tottenham to rest him as well. To be fair to Jose he did rest him for the game against Bayern and he appears to be looking to bring in another striker so maybe he will address that.

All the papers are running with him potentially missing the euros today. But when you watch Mourinho say it, you can tell by him face that he’s being mischievous as he knows it’s a massive ringing bell for the papers. A nice bit of deflection.

Never been his biggest fan but he is willing to make adjustments, looks like he learned that Dier isn't good like he was couple of years ago, that Vertonghen got worse, he will give minutes to Tanganga etc. Next step is dropping Eriksen and not relying too much on Dele who is knackered anyway. Once Davies returns, GLC,Lamela, Ndombele get fully fit we could actually be quite good. He won't stay here long, him and Levy are worst possible combo but if he can get us couple of Mendes clients in the next 2 years and improve the likes of Tanganga, Fernandes, Ndombele it will be worth it.

He’s a wiley operator is José. I love watching his pressers as nothing he says isn’t for a reason.

I appreciate he may have inherited an unbalanced, demotivated and stale squad, but his turgid and non descript tactics leave a lot to be desired. I really worry that we will abandon any form of progressive, attacking and possession based football and have no real tactical identify other than potentially setting up to stifle and suffocate our main competitors.

Well it would be a change wouldn't it, considering the last year or so when we did it to ourselves ...

He's a master of deflecting the conversation away from the team after a bad result.

I'm not going to worry about that for a while. It feels like he's just firefighting at the moment as we've got too many important players out, he's had very little time between fixtures and the team is low on confidence.

Had to turn off the Guardian Football weekly, last night. Just so much glee and excitement at Jose losing.

I get he's earned that, but I just don't know why they can't wait for to actually blow up. This wasn't even a terrible performance. Simeone, who they love, basically does this every week. When they started calling Tanganga just a Jose making a point start, I had too much.
