Some of you act like transfers are an exact science. It isn't. The players that do hit the ground running immediately are the exceptions that confirms the rule. Even players from the PL would have to adjust to a new coach, teammates, tactics, club culture etc.

I know virtually nothing about Gedson Fernandes, but if he has the right attitude and mentality he could be a very valuable players for us this season. Especially with the current state of this Spurs squad.

I'm pretty sure his surname is pronounced something like fernansh too, although I may be thinking of someone else...

So that's Jedson Fernansh but spelt Gedson Fernandes... (n)

Yeah it's definitely more sh than z at the end of Fernandes.

All it takes is one player to come in and hopefully positively impact the team dynamic. He looks like a player whose surging runs forward would lift the team and the crowd. Kinda the sissoko effect only with better technique lol

Do we have a pool set up to guess the number of days he's set to be locked in a Travel Lodge before we announce?

I thought the Portugese 's' was pronounced more or less how we would? It was the same when we had Gomes in goal, some people wrongly pronounced it as "Gomesh".

I think there are significant differences in portugese and brazilian portugese. As far as i know only people in Rio speak european portugese. In the rest of Brazil the pronunciation is very different.
So therefore a brazilian Gomes is pronounced different than an european Gomes.

I think the "s" in Fernandes is more like "sh" because it's european portugese. Gomes with "s" and not "sh" because it's brazilian.

I could also be completely wrong ;-)

I think this guy is going to be a hit for us. Just feel it in my plums.

I like when everyone says a player is shit and he turns out good
On the other hand I hate when everyone on here claims a player is amazing and we buy them and it's like getting a one legged race horse called klip :cautious:

I don't expect much from this kid for the rest of this season, so are we now looking towards next year? I think this, along with the other rumored targets is telling us that we aren't going for top 4 and instead looking to rebuild a youthful squad again, which I don't have a problem with and the loan is a good idea, but will the likes of Kane, Son and Alli have the stomach for it, are we showing enough ambition and is Jose the manger for it?

Looking a little bit deeper into Gedson, he actually played a ton last year for Benfica. It's a little confusing, because he's only listed as playing in 23 league games at Benfica, but he actually made 46 appearances across all competitions for Benfica last season (League, UCL, Europa, and the two Portuguese domestic cups).

Ruben Dias led the team with 55 and the only others who made more appearances than Gedson were the GK, Grimaldo/Almeida (starting FBs), Pizzi (Portuguese league player of the season in 2017), and Seferovic (leading scorer). Gedson even made one more appearance than Joao Felix. Seems like he just really fell out with the new manager and didn't fit the plans.

Short answer to this is that it depends where you are from. Gomes was Brazilian and it's pronounced both ways there. In Sao Paulo for example you'd use the hard "s" as in Brasil. In Rio you'd use the softer "s" with the "sh" sound. As he was from minas then he would have pronounced his own name with a fairly hard "s" sound, so something like "goh-mess" which is pretty close to reality with him (goal mess).
