I have to disagree with that assumption, I think we have been quite lethargic in our scouting in the past, West Ham have picked up Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop this way in the past and I would not call them players shit! Also Lanzini if I'm not mistaken.
Payet too although I think the post you're referring to was joking at west ham's expense

West Ham have picked up some gems and absolute dross.

Tottenham have picked up some gems in the past our problem is we haven't been active enough . I believe when we're ready to step in the market we will pick up some gems too...Clarke Ndombele Lo Celso is a great start but we need more.

Paul O'Keefe on Twitter (spurs fan who occasionally gets a bit of info) saying that the option to buy becomes an obligation if he makes a certain number of appearances.

Benfica fans seems to be okay with letting him go and happy to sell.
In terms of the players ability it seems an odd signing. A Benfica academy product who can't really get in their team this season. He may fair better in our system as Benfica play a 4-4-2 and he's more box-to-box.

In terms of finances and need, it seems a good deal though. Low risk, gives us another body and hopefully means we can loan out Skipp so he doesn't go another seasons getting hardly any game time.

My housemate works for a football analyst company (football radar) and he is in charge of the Portugese league. Basically he watches every game (literally) and has done for a few years - he's an expert and is often featured on radio stations or podcasts for his portugese football knowledge. I asked him about Gedson F today and he said similar to that Talksport analysis. A wiry technical player who was brilliant a year ago but isn't getting in the team now as not suited to their style of play. When he has played they have put him out wide. Kind of box-to-box but not a brute by any means. Knows how to put a foot in though.. not a million miles away from Pogba in terms of style.

The first sentence is always rather a worry.

Yeah but we'd be overjoyed to see Eriksen go. Doesn't mean that whoever gets him isn't getting a good players though.
This lad is only young and a lot of Portuguese teams seem happy to let young prospects go.
