He’s a nailed starter for Jose and how he wants to play currently with a deep inside LB.
Yep agreed he’s a natural defender and apart from jan is the only the player comfortable playing as a left back and inside left central defender in a back 3 . Davies is a defender and that is mainly his limitations. He is not a player that is happy being proactive in the final 3rd. No coincidence that Jose is following poch And seeing Davies versatility as a lot more valuable than what Danny rose can give, also a unselfish and good attitude helps

Is there a left back at any other top-6 club who plays that particular role (i.e. auxilliary CB)? That's more important than whether he would start for any of them.
If he was at any of the other top 5/6 teams he still wouldnt start whether auxillary or not

Dele has scored and assisted a fair few goals in that time as well

He's been given the time to though amidst a series of poor performances. Look I don't wanna chew Dele out or turn this into a Lo Celso/Dele debate as I believe both can work together especially during our current injury plight but I just find it frustrating how one player seemingly has already been cast aside and one gets opportunity after opportunity. Lo Celso should get giving a fair opportunity to stake his claim. It's criminal that Eriksen has been allowed to play whilst we don't try allow Lo Celso to get settled. Not only is it harsh on the player but financially it makes little sense. He's a quality player and needs to be given the chance to show it. In spells GLC has shown he has something.

As it's not for the ITK thread, thought I'd ask in here...

Why are people implying that Salah was anything but average until he moved to Liverpool? He was simply 'okay' at Chelsea, Roma, and Fiorentina. I recall us amused they'd paid so much for him, as were (apparently) the higher-ups at Roma.

I mean, this was Salah at the time he was supposedly "elite" according to posters on here:

Odd question but why is this thread in the transfer rumours thread and has it always been here? ?
I thought that seeing this here, Jose was already on his way

Dele absolutely cemented over GLC is a baffling decision at this point and one of the major concerns about Mourinhos appointment.

Same with Eriksen who is playing crap, wouldn't tackle a 4 year old and blatantly doesn't want to be here any more.

I seem to recall him ruining us when he was at Basle.

So a singular clip where he slips taking a shot in during a time where he was getting acclimatised means that managers who are paid millions upon millions of pounds to spot and nurture diamonds in the rough were vindicated in their decisions to let talents go that end up being in the top10 players in the world?

Also nonsense that he was average. I seem to remember him putting us to the sword at Fiorentina and before he moved to Chelsea he did the same to us at Basel. He was great for Roma and then became devastating at Liverpool but I'd hope that world class managers can see what players can and can't become and don't dismiss them so early which is a great concern with the likes of Foyth and GLC at the moment.

Especially with the latest itk that Mourinho might not fancy Lo Celso, we're now getting the old "Jose has a history of not recognising talent, just look at Salah, De Bruyne etc!".

Ok, so apparently KDB may have been let got for reasons outside of football, and Salah took quite a while to get to where he is now (I personally think he's slightly over-rated because of the media Liverpool love-fest).
I have no idea who the "etc" are that keep getting mentioned.
Going by some posters, you'd think Mourinho has a habit of letting fantastic talents slip through his fingers!

Just because he sold 2 players who later went on to become very good, doesn't mean he has a track record for it.
We don't even know why he let them go Ffs.

Agree. We'll see how long Mourinho toes the party lines when along this 'rebuild' he'll will get knocked back on the players he wants and has to accept 'alternatives'. When results don't go well, he'll point to how Liverpool and City fix their problems with top quality players while we are not kings of the transfer windows and will eventually look for a way out.

Clear as day Mourinho and ENIC is doomed to failure. To be fair, any manager is limited in what they can do under ENIC, it just varies as to when it will go tits up. I'd go as far as to say Klopp/Guardiola would last a year at best under them before realising ENIC have zero interest in actually challenging for anything. Silverware is just a nice to have, rather than a must like it is for other clubs.

I was actually referencing that Shrewsbury game earlier today with my old man. He had that same play about 3 times in a row in that game. Never looked to find a teammate in any of them. Of course he's still selfish but he's come a looooong way from his time at Chelsea.

A better case would be that of KDB rather than Salah, and even with KDB it was a rather untimely bad injury that sealed his fate at the club. Leaving and going to Wolfsburg was the best thing that could've happened to him imo.

Mourinho delivered a masterclass in that second half - better finishing and we win that. Promising signs amidst a distraught feeling.
Football is 90 minutes though and we lost.
Flip the coin and we really could have made a game of it if we'd picked the correct line up from the start.

That's the problem Dele has the ability to do that. Apart from those highlites he does work hard defensively but too many games he isnt an attacking threat.
Even when JM or Poch gave him a strong MF defensive position he should have been creating from that position too. He has the talent. Having him just guard the channels is a waste in some ways.He needs to do more with the ball

That’s always been the thing with Dele, he is a goal threat and produces moments of magic but his general play can be quite average.
Dele, Lucas, and son is a very hit and miss trio to play in one team. Moments of magic but I think they are detrimental to our play as an attacking force when they are off their game. They seem to be 9/10 or 5/10 and nothing in between

We will never be able to consistently create chances and build attacks against organized defenses with those three behind Kane.

We have and do generally create consistent chances as a team with those players but I do think they harm our play in dominating matches as they give the ball away quite a lot

Agreed...Jose is on the list of many managers who have let players go who have gone onto great things...it happens.

Salah was exactly the same at Fiorentina. He's always been, prior to Liverpool, all running and no end product. That's exactly how he played against us, and he'd get through and then swipe a shot wide Sissoko style. He eventually came good, but it wasn't expected, as evidenced by Roma's chairman, and the fact that no other clubs were interested.

Asked if he has been surprised by Salah's development, Pallotta told ESPN: "Honestly, yes. And the reason is probably because look, we utilised him differently than Liverpool have. They figured out the best way to utilise him. Where I'm surprised, is how great he's finishing.

"I think he would say that in Rome, while he had a bunch of goals, his frustration was not finishing the same way and now you get the ball near his feet and it just seems like he's figured a way to put it in the net. Do they have bigger nets in the Premier League? It's just been amazing watching him and every time he scores I'm like, 'Oh dear God!'

"When you look at it now, you can say it's an unbelievable bargain. The issue at the time was that when [director of football] Monchi came in, Salah wanted to leave, he had a year left on his contract so in another year you'd get nothing. He wanted to go back [to the Premier League] and prove himself, which he certainly has done.

"We can't tell you that anybody else was calling for Salah at anywhere near that kind of price, so there's a lot of teams that have missed out on the great play he's had this year."

Feel the media have really shown their hands towards Mourinho of late. We now have a critical John Cross (of all people) piece to add to the one posted earlier in the thread from Lieuw.

They say fans and chairmen are fickle and not willing to give people time, but these journos seem to be frothing their knickers at any situation that potentially proves he is still the same cantankerous bastard that fucked up at Utd.

You also had the likes of Holt and Delaney bigging up the potential of a 'Mourinho special' before kick off, only to jump all over him as a dinosaur at FT.

It's all a bit like the average football fan whenever VAR starts drawing a line from someone's armpit, shouting disdain from the rooftops. However there's at best a muted applause when VAR correctly overrules a potentially game changing error. So skewed.

Man I really hope he can prove them wrong. I hope once he has more time on the training ground and 11 players he can trust (that are match fit) we have evidence of a front foot philosophy, in this lopsided formation that provided a lot of goals before Xmas. I hope he continues to be intelligent but fair in his pressers as he has been thus far. I hope he is still able to get results from a reactive gameplan on occasions, just to prove that having more than a great plan A has a place in football in 2020.

Have I been indoctrinated by Mourinho into siege mentality already? Gulp.
