I was really impressed by him yesterday. Agreed he got wrong-footed for the goal, but his pace, strength, positioning and tackling ability shone through. Hopefully he will get more game time and not be sent out on loan. Just sign a new contract - please!

Fact is, he plays his first proper game for us against arguably the current best team in the world and when we are super low on confidence and unorganised. Such a great performance considering this.

His strength, power and pace in a few years could really develop into something really great for us at the back.

Very good debut from him. With him and Sanchez there's some real pace at the back which is very welcome. I think it's also fair to say though that Mourinho packed the midfield yesterday which made it much more difficult for them to get at us. In previous games the midfield has been so badly stretched (mostly so that we can have 4 up front, more often than not ambling about) and we've been overpowered in midfield repeatedly by teams nowhere near Liverpool's quality. Previous CB pairings have suffered badly under these circumstances and have been pilloried as a result. I've been saying for a long time that our defensive frailties have been greatly down to CM selections and formations with lack of bodies in there to fill the spaces.

People will say that we'll lose attacking strength by playing 3 up front, but I'd counter that by saying 4 up front aren't any use if we can't get hold of the ball. If we had a midfiel 3 of Lo Celso, DM and Ndombele the 2 new boys would be more than capable of pushing up in turn into the offensive areas and we'd have a better chance of controlling the middle of the pitch.

Loved the way he mamaged to cover both the goal and Mané on his early block. Awareness, agility and quick on his feet.

I’m not sure if I want us playing this lopsided three/four at the back all season. But I guess until we replace Aurier with a competent RB that’s what we’re gonna do.

Tanganga and Dav flanking Toby looks such a much better blend, though. Means we can push up the pitch more against less talented teams than Liverpool and have their pace on the the cover.

His job was to essentially minimise Mane's involvement and he did that perfectly. He was given licence to man mark him and was frequently well into the midfield in order to stop Mane picking the ball up on the turn. The goal wasn't too big of a mistake, he wasn't turned etc, just got caught out by the pace of the pass to Firmino. Firmino's first touch was so good that he could shoot with his second and score.

I believe that he's done enough to get more minutes for us, which hopefully will show him that we are the best place to develop and result in him signing a contract (IIRC that's the issue).

His posture and style remind me so much of Wilson Palacios - and what a fantastic debut that guy had for us too!

But, Let’s not start putting him as a midfielder in team selections, even JM has said he’s a defender, the under whatever group coach has also said he loves defending, blocking, clearing. He’s a defender, let’s leave him there, and get a proper DM in, or give Skipp a chance in front of the three CB’s that played yesterday.

Let's hope this ain't a one off and he gets more minutes. Verts is a goner so might as well start giving the lad proper minutes

Love his interview

bit about Mourinho asking him if he would be scared. No!

Seems a lot older / more mature than 20 in his build and the way he carries himself and talks. His happiness at his debut was massively tempered by us not getting a result

Can see him having the sort of mentality Jose likes

seems a bit of danger to playing him / him doing really well whilst his current contract situation is as it is - but will leave that to our Shrewd chairman and all round wonderful business man to sort out

Came across very well. Humble but brave. 'scared? No!'

Needs minutes just like Sess and Gio do.

really happy to see him in the starting line up and very happy he played so well + the comments from JJ are very encouraging.
Q for @IGSpur @spurs9 and other youth watchers, are there are other CB's at the club who are at/ close to/ soon could get to Tanganga's level.
The grouping of Sanchez, Toby, Tanganga with 2 full backs could be a very good base against top sides but with Verts likely leaving and Dier not showing well in the CB, we could do with another 1-2 at Tanganga's level along with Foyth.

I know comparing young players is wrong but I’ve seen a lot of Juan Foyth and remain unconvinced or at least unsure about him but I’ve seen this kid only in preseason on tv and this one match in the flesh - and I’d put my house on him becoming a top class player. The way he wins the ball and accelerates way into midfield in nanoseconds is such an asset to a team too.

I’m glad that he’s finally had his PL debut. He’s a young lad with little experience at the top level.

I hope the fans are patient with him and give him time to build up his experience and not get on his back when he has an off day. Even the best players have poor days.

I'm genuinely excited about Davinson and Japhet forming our defence for the future. To think where Davinson is at the age of 23 is pretty incredible. I have been critical of the guy but even I need to realise just how young he is and how good he is already.

this is quite difficult to answer as 7-8 months ago most would have said tanganga is going nowhere(in terms of his career) and that he'll probably move on and drop down the leagues. now this isn't because he didn't have the talent but like a lot of players when you're playing countless u23 games in front of a couple of hundred people and with no end in sight it's very easy to fall into a rut. towards the end of his u23 "career" he really wasn't playing that well and didn't look anything like the player he was at u18 level, unfortunately this is an all too familiar theme, not just here but at a lot of clubs in this country.

cb is a position of strength in the academy where we currently have tj eyoma, brooklyn lyons-foster, luis binks and malachi walcott. it's easy to say now that tanganga's better than all of them but ask me this a year ago and i'd say they're all roughly of the same level in terms of ability and potential. tanganga's the oldest so is a bit further along than the others and they all have their own pros and cons but i wouldn't say there's much between any of them at all. eyoma is now going through the same rut that tanganga has been through and i'm sure the others will do the same, at this moment it just seems like pot luck as to where they'll end up.

also, whilst not a cb, oliver skipp is two age groups younger than tanganga and yet he plays an age group higher than tanganga for england. some fans are on board with seeing skipp get a run of games but also a lot are dismissive of the idea, i'm confident that he would settle in just as well as tanganga has if he was given the chance.
