Club statement regarding alleged racism

The Club and the Metropolitan Police have now exhausted all avenues of investigation following the reported incident at our home fixture against Chelsea on 22 December.

We carried out extensive reviews of CCTV images and footage, working with professional lip readers. All materials and reports have now also been reviewed by the police who have carried out their own investigation.

The police have notified us today that, having reviewed and investigated, they have closed the crime report as they can find no evidence to support the allegation of racial abuse.

We fully support Antonio Rudiger with the action that he took - however there is no evidence to corroborate or contradict the allegation and as such neither ourselves nor the police are in a position to take any further action.

We are fiercely proud of our anti-racism work and our zero tolerance of any form of discrimination. This is one reason why we have attributed so much time and resource to investigating this matter. Had we identified anyone guilty of this we were intent on issuing them with a lifetime ban from our stadium as they would have no place among our proud, diverse fan base.

If any new information comes to light, this will be fully investigated.

Just because the club couldn’t find any evidence, doesn’t make the guy a liar. He could simply have been mistaken.

There is still no concrete proof that it didn't happen. It could have happened, that's a fact. The shit Rudiger is getting online is not productive in anyway whatsoever, and it's vile.

Exactly, he obviously heard something.
I agree just jumped to the wrong thing. A lot of people were ready to crucify us even some of our own fans but I think most spurs fans I know knew it didn’t happen and he was mistaken from the start.

Yeah he couldn't be making it up at all could he, it's blatantly obvious he heard something

I find it very odd that your gut reaction, is to declare the guy a liar. Based on what exactly? The club statement says they couldn’t find evidence either way and that they stand behind how Rudiger dealt with it. A typically classy response from our club.

It‘s just a shame people like you cant conduct yourself with the same decorum.

On the day it happened, some one who was at the game said something on here about the “who let the yids out” chant, anyone hearing that could easily mistake it for monkey chants.

Of course its possible he heard something, its just the thousands in that area and not one other player in his or our team did.
It would draw a line under this,if he came out and said it was possible in the cold light of day that he could have been mistaken.

I feel sorry for Sky. They spent around 60 hours straight reporting on this and after all that, they haven’t got the story they wanted... I think they might’ve just done enough to tar our name though so fair play to them. I wonder if they’ll spend the next 60 hours reporting the result of all this and getting experts in to talk about that too.

I believe Rudiger simply misheard. I had a feeling straight away Spurs fans would be proved innocent of all the allegations. Not because it doesn’t happen, just because I’ve been going for 39 years and never heard a monkey chant once. I’m relieved of the result either way. It was the ‘who let the yids out’ chant, I’m sure of it.

It probably needs to be said that Rudiger has to be a little careful now though because that’s twice his allegations have proved inconclusive. If this happens again then people may write him off as a liar even if it was a genuine mistake again and that will give the racists a chance to talk shit whenever there is genuine abuse. ‘Well if Rudiger can lie then others can’ etc.

All in all, well handled by Spurs and I’m extremely glad the allegations haven’t been proven.

I don't think he helped the situation when he acted out what he thought he head, but I do genuinely belive that that he heard something.

I don't think it's as easy as he was right or wrong. There was a large group of fans in a 60k crowd that he could have easily misheard either who let the Yids or cheat as has been discussed in other threads.

I would rather see people report things like this and have an investigation after to find it there was than to try and cover it up.

or misheard something. It’s totally possible in the current climate that he could of thought he heard something so I wouldn’t blame him if that was the case.

There’s no way one voice would of been heard with the noise going on and where Rudiger was stood in the stadium. It would of had to be a group of people chanting for him to be heard. Those in the area were saying “who, who, who let the **** out” was being sung at the time. Maybe he misheard that for monkey noises, it’s not unbelievable if he did.

edit: sorry, just seen you subsequently posted the same thing!

Pretty sure he only acted it out because Azpilicueta was too far away and the ball was already back in play
