Mourinho has never been a yes man. People are dreaming if they think he will stand for Levy’s nonsense. He’ll be publicly vocal about not being backed. The anti Mourinho brigade will love that as they’ll be able to say he’s being like he was at Man U where the chairman didn’t back him.
Not overly fussed by those who dislike the man, am bothered about the team I support though.

Levy will have to buy eventually and Mourinho will have to manage and coach.

I'd much rather it be someone not named Matic though.

God knows who we will get in but my money is on nobody. Getting Wanyama off the books would be a good window though if that’s the minimum that happens. The poor guy’s career has just gone down the toilet.

Agree, Vic was great, knee has done for him and the fact he is still with us is poor on so many folks behalf. His wages could be spent elsewhere.

lets be honest levy isn’t going to spend 50 plus million on a dm in jan so if we can get matic cheap would be a decent deal the geezer is a winner add a bit of experience to our team which we lack and knows what jm will want from him

Just a reminder for anyone saying he looked good yesterday... we also looked amazing against Burnley.

reminds me of the saha window. we had a good opportunity to progress and we sign saha and nelson.

In the Saha window, Redknapp already had Defoe, Adebayor, van der Vaart and Gio as striking options, and Kaboul, Dawson, Gallas and King as his CB choices. It's been pretty well documented even by Redknapp himself that he wanted Saha and Nelson, and Levy was willing to try for anyone he asked for (being Tevez, who we weren't able to sign due to the rules anyway). He also sold Pav and brought in Saha, so let's not rewrite history here.

Any issues with that season were down to Redknapp and the fact that he wasn't planning on the future as he was due for prison one minute, and then off to England the next.

This is pretty much it for me. Ideally I think we'd benefit more from a Kante type DM who can cover ground rapidly, put in tackles and make interceptions (especially if we don't also sign a RB) but Matic would still be an improvement on what we have. I also think it's looking more and more like we'd benefit from some experienced winners/leaders out on the pitch.

Agree, that’s the key point here.
If Matic is available at a price Levy will deal at, and he’s on Mourinho’s list of targets, then it’s not all bad. Admittedly it sounds as though he’s lost some athleticism, but if his tactical discipline and understanding is at a level or two above Dier and Wanyama, then it’s an improvement.
If we’re playing with a designated DM, then he has to provide more protection and assurance for our defence than we are currently getting, be that through sheer athleticism or through vision and game management, I don’t much care, but we need to start playing with some influence in midfield, not just a front four and lopsided back four. We just invite pressure on ourselves.
There were flashes with Ndombele in there on Saturday of us finally having some drive and propose there, but we need to find the right partner for him. Also, I’m still not sold on playing two CM’s, I think we get overrun, I’d rather see 4312 or 3412, with one of the front two being Son/Moura in a roving role to exploit their pace, and in the latter system legitimate wingbacks bolstering the midfield area.
