We’ve got a real dilemma with him in that he’s immensely talented but makes so many mental mistakes that we can’t afford to give him a run of games, and without experience he’ll never learn to cut out the mistakes. For me the only answer is a loan, because otherwise he’s never going to get the run of matches he needs in order to learn.

Alderweireld and Vertonghen aren't the future.

It's a bit unfair to expect Foyth to develop playing one game every 3 months. Mourinho should bite the bullet and give him a run in the team.

Many won't agree with me on this but I've already written this season off in my head

Hate to criticize a young player and sympathize with the fact that he hasn’t played much but I just have never seen it with Foyth.

His first instinct as a defender is to grab and foul, he moves awkwardly, and looks slick on the ball but is continuously frightening in possession. It’s not like this is one time thing either, he’s been red carded, given away penalties, and given the ball up in dangerous positions.

He’s 21 and CBs take the longest to develop but we really can’t afford to play him at the moment outside of cup games considering his proclivity for calamities. Think he could use a loan next season for regular playing time especially if we buy a CB.

Bit of a kneejerk reaction on here. Starting for the first time in the league under Mourinho, with the last time out being Bayern where he did exceptionally well for someone who hadn't played in a while.

The problem lies with the fact that he was playing next to Aurier who offers next to nothing defensively whatsoever. Morever, the mistake that lead to the goal was him trying to find Aurier, who did not make him self available for the pass, and ended up holding on to the ball and inevitably losing it as he was about to pass it to Serge. Toby, who is the more experienced defender could've helped him out by closing down Pukki after he got the ball from Foyth, but did nothing and instead backed up into his own goal. So if we're talking about mistakes, Toby's, for all his experience, was even worse for giving Pukki too much space.

Defensively, we are a shambles, and he's not the primary reason for it. We know we need a capable RB and DM who offer some coverage for our defenders, so to blame him is simply not fair. Foyth is a supremely talented ball playing defender who needs to play regularly in order to get these silly mistakes out of him. If there is to be any criticism of him, then it would be only that he hangs on to the ball longer than he should.

He should have been loaned straight back to Estudiantes or Leeds with Bielsa, he's missing out on so much game time so that whenever he's thrown in he's eventually going to make a mistake which in turn makes it harder to trust him.

Why Poch had him hanging around the first team as a 19 year old who'd barely played any professional football I'll never know.

Thought he was unlucky today. Got played a hospital pass that led to their 1st goal, but other than that was OK.

Vertonghen was way worse than him.

Total liability. How we can concede from that position I’ll never know. Get him out of the club ASAP and take serge, Wanyama and winks with you.

Hospital ball? WTF? He was on the half way line with time and space FFS and still managed to fuck it up

Jan is finished unfortunately and he also has a fuckload of credit in the bank at Tottenham. Foyth won’t get near 300 games for the club, I’d be very surprised if he gets to 50. He’s the new Vlad Chiriches

I really want to think he's going to make it, and it's not fair to criticise a young player so much etc, but almost literally every time I see him play, he makes horrendous decisions.

Wolves away last season, Bournemouth away, should have given away a penalty at home to Chelsea, that stupidness today and that's just off the top of my head.

We just seem to have too many players that don't have any football intelligence whatsoever

He had such little first team football before he moved to us and I just don't think this is the league to learn on the job. Maybe if he had 40-50 first team games behind him in Argentina, it would given him somewhat of a basic grounding. It's hard enough for experienced players to come from South America to over here and even harder for a kid with such limited game time in Argentina before his move. On top of that, his game time with us is limited so difficult to see how he is going to develop.

Really would be handy if he could go on loan somewhere where he can get some proper game time, even if it is abroad as long as he plays.

I'm sorry, we can debate his talent for the entire evening. The point is that he made a very stupid decision today that resulted in their opening goal and it's not the first time he's done it. Yes he needs games, but are we in a position right now to be doing that? I'd argue that unless we switch the fullback model, he's not going to see games.

Foyth is extremely frustrating as he comes across as a lovely lad and you can see his qualities but he’s very naive and mistakes are often fatal in the EPL.
