We largely won because we did as I asked for at half time - rolled our sleeves up and put the hard work in. No longer did Brighton players have the time to, control, turn and play as they wished and from the intensity of our off the ball work this, though not with an abundance of quality it has to be said, fed into what we did with the ball and the urgency we played with. One scrappy and slightly fortunate goal was followed by the one bit of real quality in the game and we've just about got the job done. Good comeback and three points.

Phew thank god for the win! ??

I hope we sort midfield soon though, no more Winks and Dier partnership as they’ve been tried enough now and clearly don’t work.

Mourinho needs to find a better balance in midfield and we really need a top notch defensive midfield that can dominate.

Sissoko and Winks started though. Not perfect but leagues better than Dier/Sissoko. Personally I think Winks/NDombele could work when the latter gets up to speed. However any CM 2 is gonna struggle when one of them is always asked to vacate midfield and cover for Aurier.

Another questionable starting lineup, but I have complete faith in Mourinho.

Crucial difference between Mourinho and Poch, for me, is that Jose finds it much easier to make correct, decisive substitutions, and to get players fired up at half time (Moura the most obvious example today).

It’s no secret that there’s a lot of dross in our squad, and both managers have had to do the best with what they’ve got at this point. Difference being, Jose is consistently grinding out the wins, Poch did not.

i’m not sure i can put up with Winks and Sissoko in CM amymore. it’s where so many of our problems stem from. it has to be addressed.

It’s been slow going to start with injuries, fitness, and coaching changes but you have to say all of Lo Celso, Ndombele, and Sessegnon absolutely ooze class. Happy to accept a little delayed gratification if they reach the potential they’ve shown.

Much better second half. Moura dragged the team along with him, should have got motm. He wasn’t pretty but it what we were in need off.

good subs as well. Lo Celso quality showed and Eriksen picked off the midfield for us. Thought sess did alright over all and a bit unlucky to go off.

Sanchez is starting to find his feet now, a run of games has done him the world of good.

what a finish by Alli. Didn’t play that well but he and Kane looked gassed at the end. Didn’t leave anything out there

Sess wasn’t in the game so taking him off made sense. Brighton forced us right to take away his pace. He is not yet clever enough to drift into the positions Alli takes up.

Alli like Eriksen is a game winner and his goals and assists under JM is why he left him on. Our Ozil. Looks disinterested at times but you know there is potential quality when needed.

Aurier and Verts got lucky a few times late with their positioning.

Bringing on Dier was classic Mourinho and will see more and more of us closing out games like this moving forward.

Funny how we introduce more technical players with intelligence rather than relying on athletes and we automatically look a lot better. Hopefully Mourinho learns something from this. Still don’t like how we relinquished control for the last 10 minutes though.
How about the multiple times those supposed technical players have not performed well, resulting in complete shitshows? What was the reason on those occasions?

We've played these so called technical players before and they've been as poor as the supposedly less gifted many times. It's got nothing to do with them being 'footballers', today, we did well in the second half and they played much better but that shouldn't mask the obvious inadequacy in the squad or certain players. They are not suddenly saviours or the answer, next week they could easily revert to type.

I keep saying it because I firmly believe it, a number of this squad are, for a variety of reasons, not good enough wether they are athletes, technically better footballers or part-time dildo salesmen. The occasional better performance doesn't change much for me.

So much for the season of goodwill, they've turned me into a negative grouch, either that or it's been battered into me due to being in here too much :D

The problem with this team is mentality and defensive frailty.
A good DM is imo priority.

I'd also like to see both Ndombele and GLC on for a full game.

His passing was shocking. He should be world class with his scoring ability but he too often fails to make his talent count.
