I think Levy takes most of the blame here. We should be analysing player contracts and renewing them more frequently.

In my opinion this stems from the 2016/2017 season, when this team was at its best. They were all on low wages, the media wouldn’t shut up about it. But it felt at the time that we were holding out until we got to the new stadium, to start offering the big wages. We should have bitten the bullet then and signed him up long term at that point. Before the media started with the whole wage thing.

At that point, if he didn’t sign on them terms, we could have shifted him, Levy would have got stick no doubt, Poch would have been shown what happens to players that don’t sign and properly commit to your club, we would be £40/£50m up and invested some of it into another player.

Of course you could argue that we have had our worth out of the player, that he cost us peanuts in the grand scheme of things, and probably helped bring in much higher revenue than he’s transfer would have. But there needs to be a cut off, I think the cut off should be 2.5 years, it allows much better planning, you see the players commitment etc. Especially now transfers are getting higher. You need to protect the clubs assets.

Like I said. I have been one of those posters.

The thing was with Trippier & Lloris for that matter - they costs us several points last season with their stupid errors leading to goal. It was probably like 12 points alone of those two. It's one to bash people when they directly are responsible for goals rather than doing it every when the players have actually performed decent and not like the worse player on the field.
Don't start down that road. But for Aguero being a fanny hair offside Eriksen would've dumped us out of the CL quarter finals last season with that brainless pass right at the end of the match against City. He may not have actively cost us points but at times he's been so bad it's felt like we'd be better off with 10 men on the pitch. I've lost count of the number of times he has been *infuriating* to watch. Poor first touches, poor passes, allowing himself to be surrounded and have the ball taken off him, mimsy challenges, etc.

I get that you can't see any of that because of your national pride or whatever but it's just how it is. I don't know how I'd feel if I started supporting a team in a different country because one of my countrymen played for them (certain amount of guesswork on my part based solely on your registration date here) and then it went sour but you're doing yourself no favours by stubbornly leaping to his defence whenever somebody says something negative about him, especially when it turns out that you've been similarly vitriolic about other players.

Has it occurred to you that this thread might be so full of negativity because we all know how good he *can* be but he hasn't touched those heights in probably 2 years and it's really bloody infuriating? Also that you probably fuel some of it yourself by pretending he's not really that bad? Everybody WANTS him to suddenly be the brilliant player that we adored for ~4 seasons but no matter how many chances he gets, we don't even see a glimmer of how he used to be.

Yes, but 1. Players don't have to sign, Eriksen appears to have always had this plan.

2. Levy would have got ripped to shreds selling in 2016/2017 when we were doing well.

3. Yes, a cut off is ideal, but we tried that at 1 year, 1.5 years, even 2 with Toby. In your situation, we would be telling players 'sign or leave' possibly 18 months into a 4 year contract. That's ridiculous and would lead to a constantly unsettled group.

Its kind of funny you know. A couple of seasons ago he was incredible and we were lucky to have him. Now im not sure he would even make the matchday squads of any of the teams he would like to join. Hes been so very poor for a loooong while now and im not sure he can even ever recover 'it'.
Id give him zero minutes from here on out. He doesnt want to be here and id rather play the new recruits then suffer having a half player in eriksen

Can you imagine the reaction had Levy tried to sell him a few years ago? Small club mentality, we'll never win anything if we keep selling our best players etc etc, it would've been dreadful. I don't attach any blame to Levy for this situation, Eriksen has reportedly been offered several contracts (going back to the 2017 transfer window iirc) and turned them all down, I don't know what else Levy can do.

Some crazy revisionism here. Eriksen never a game changer? Eriksen inconsistent? Rubbish. The guy has consistently scored and made goals at an elite level for half a decade, he's won games out of nothing for us and he's provided a standard of vision, imagination and creativity which no other player has for us over such a long period in the Premier Leage era. Yes, he's let himself down for a good long while now and it's clear that he's not particularly committed to the cause any more so he needs to moved on from as soon as possible, but the entire Pochettino era would have never hit the heights it did without Eriksen's involvement.
Let me précis your wise words:

he was really good, and now he is shit

You do know the 1st line of defence is attack, and if they don't do their job, then they apply more pressure on our defence.

Eriksen covers more ground than most the team, but if you are going to bottle every single challenge at some time a goal would be conceded from it.

I agree with a lot of your post, but

1, if the back pass from Eriksen hadn't got a deflection it might have actually gone to 1 of our players.

2, Eriksen hasn't been great this season barr 2 games, but to say 2 years is way over the top. No 1 played well consistently from January to May, but Eriksen still was 1 of the top creators in the PL last season, he chipped in with 10 goals and 16 assists in our League and CL run. he played 35 games, most of the season carrying a knock and I believe over the time he has been with us I would say he's played more fixtures in that time than any other player in the same time.

don't get me wrong I think we need to find a replacement ASAP, and if he isn't sold in January hopefully that replacement will play in his place.

That assist today certainly wasn't useful.

A contribution at least so there's at least something positive at last.
Maybe people need to have faith that if Mourinho, a man who cares about winning, winning and only winning, is playing Eriksen more than their favourites, there’s a good reason for it.

Is he? He only came on for the last 5 minutes.
And how many minutes was Lo Celso trusted with in a match where winning put us touching distance from top four, we’d been playing without control and we’re hanging on for a point? Or Sessegnon?

I think they epitome of clutching is to suggest that Eriksen is "trusted" because he was brought on in the 89th minute ahead of two players getting their fitness back after injuries.

China, might be his best option in terms of money. If that's his priority. Because i dont see any of the so called elite teams in europe paying him a king's ransom. His attitude and form over the last year, would be a huge red flag for any wouldbe suitors. He clearly has little mental fortitude when the chips are down or if he's wanting to pursue a new challenge. He's been very unprofessional in my opinion.

He’s been unprofessional spouting off in the press and clearly downing tools. But when he’s on he’s still a great player and clubs like Juve, Madrid, Bayern, etc will surely take notice.

All I suggested is that Mourinho is using him ahead of the players we are all so desperate to see more of because he believes that right now, he has more to offer a side which needs to win. It’s not even a controversial point, it’s pretty bleeding obvious.

Far more clutching in suggesting that it’s merely fitness holding those players back and not that Mourinho has Eriksen ahead of them in the pecking order.

I’m as keen as anyone for them so play and for Eriksen to be marginalised but right now Eriksen is Mourinho’s go to for any high pressure situation where the team dynamic needs to improve.
