The discussion with Danny Rose had turned towards José Mourinho and how it felt to have a manager of his winning mentality in control at Tottenham. “Who said he’s in control of the club?” Rose shot back.

Further quotes from the article, to save a click:

“I’ve never had a conversation with him [Mourinho] and I don’t see why I need to,”

"As I said before, I’m here for the next 18 months, so I don’t see why I need to have a conversation with the manager. I want to do as well as I possibly can, work as hard as I can to achieve what looked impossible a few weeks ago, and that is finishing in the top four [of the Premier League].”

“We’re all starting from the same starting point or, at least, I hope we are,”

“It’s very good [under Mourinho]. I had the privilege of working under Mauricio for five and a half years and now, I have to be honest, I never thought I would be managed by José Mourinho at Tottenham.

“That’s credit to the club, how well they’ve progressed, and to get someone like José has been brilliant. He’s one of the most decorated managers of my lifetime, so it’s been a good start for the team and I’ve enjoyed it so far. He is a serial winner, so I imagine we will be looking to win the FA Cup and finish in the top four of the league.”

I don't think “I’ve never had a conversation with him [Mourinho] and I don’t see why I need to,” will do him any favours.

So that statement has actually put people's noses out of joint?

You even posted the full quote for context, I read it and don't see what the big deal is.

Maybe he's saying "...I don't need to" in a reassuring kinda way that implies there's no issues to talk about and he doesn't need Jose singling him out.

Either way, if he'd Googled Mourinho he'd know that giving him an excuse is dangerous ground. He does too many interviews that generate headlines.

too much chat, not enough play

Nope too many people falling for click bait headlines, did you read the rest of the article?

Incidentally it says he gave this interview to the press after the Bayern match so I assume the media would have been waiting in the press area for a chat so is he NOT meant to give an interview?

Walking soundbite strikes again.

Only reason they want to talk to him is because he is good print.

Another 18 months of him at this club. We've hounded out players who have done less.

Good footballer when he was peak, husk of a player now.

Context...
I'd read elsewhere that it was in response to the fact he stated previously, under Poch, that he was going to run his contract down. Simply said that there was no reason to speak to Jose about it.

The spin applied by the Evening Standard is “Rose: we can do the impossible with Mourinho”. The sub head says he insists Spurs can overhaul Chelsea and win the FA Cup. Very controversial I’m sure.

Football fans only respond to players/manager/journalists who blow smoke up their arses. The moment anyone goes slightly off script they cant compute. Rose talking like a normal human being seems to really rile people.

To be fair thats the same people who think the players run their own social media accounts, that Toby sits in the dressing room waiting for a photographer to send him a pic he can attach to a tweet with four fire emojis.

Danny also said in this interview:

'I felt very lucky to work under Mauricio and I feel very lucky to work under Jose. He's won a lot of trophies and we're all excited. He's a serial winner...

?

...so I imagine we will be looking to win the FA Cup and finish in the top four of the league.'

He'll be under contract but I seriously doubt he will still be here in any meaningful way.
JM seems to want a solid defensive LB rather than a wing back. Take the energy out of his game, and there isn't much left. And is he a player to sit happily on the bench? Not really.
