Where to start on this? So many years of plodding along to the Lane for the game, rarely do I go for the experience. The game today was secondary. Would still have loved to beat them yet it wouldn’t have topped the rest of the day. Bringing my 4 year old daughter to the Lane for the first time was emotional, enjoyable and most importantly for an old moaning bastard like me, fun. We got the stickers, face-painting, flags, trip to the shop, saw the mascots (she’s obsessed with Lily Lane, great move inventing her...), appeared on the big screen, met players after for pics and just when we were leaving even had a quick word with @Allygold (now if that doesn’t top off the day nothing will :) ). She screamed ‘come on you Spurs’ throughout the game and is looking forward to going back again and bringing her little sister. Her mum’s going to love all the free afternoons she’s going to be having soon. Cheap as chips. We got chips too, which were actually a little more expensive. A day I will truly remember for the rest of my life. Brought back so many memories of my first trip in ‘86. With all the misery Spurs have brought me since, today they gave me something special. And Isabelle too.

Great video on facebook, I was laughing at her Irish \English accent. I remembered when my kids had there mums Northern Irish accent.

Seems this thread died just before 8pm on Tuesday for some reason so no mention of the defeat to Chelsea. Much like against the Gooners they kept it tight until half time then collapsed.

Away to Everton today, COYSW!

Did any Women's seasons ticket holders who bought tickets for the Spurs vs Arsenal game @ WHL get their money refunded, as promised?
Me & my Son didn't. I even contacted them regarding this in November and enquired, was told "within the next few weeks"

I know it was only a tenner but it was a matter of principle for me!

oh good call - I completely forgot about that. I might call them tomorrow, see what they have to say. Were you at the West Ham game today? Phew, what a game - so glad we won. I think the low(er) attendance might have been down to the tubes not running from Waterloo, although only realised today that a bus to Barnet gets you onto the Northern Line at Edgware way quicker, so that's going to be our new 'other' route when they mess us about.

Yeah we were there today. Great game! The ladies really played well and that final goal was superb!!

Our journey there was also a complete nightmare as we didn't know about the tube issues. 3 trains and 2 buses got us there (late) We also worked out, bus to Edgware and Northern line home was so much quicker! Our future backup plan also.

Good goal to win it too.

On a side note, I don't like that the player we've got on loan from Arsenal still has Arsenal colours and bio on her Twitter, no matter how good she is or that she's just on loan. :shifty:

Just curious what everybody's feelings are regarding Spurs Women and, and women's football in general? I was reading an article about how dominant FCB's women are in their league and it got me thinking.

Do you emotionally consider our women's team to be equivalent to our first XI, development squad, under 18s etc. Just to reiterate, I'm not talking about ability, wages or any of that stuff, just how do you feel about it emotionally? Can you name our women's squad? Should they playing at the Lane? Should the club divert funding from the men's squads to invest in our women? Investing in our male youth is a no-brainer since that feeds directly into our senior squad in a way that our women can never do (or - one day - will they?). Should we be investing heavily now in order to get a first mover advantage and cement Spurs women in the big-4 (or whatever it's equivalent will be)? Should it be a separate forum on SC or intermingled with the men's forums? and most importantly, should celebrating a goal by removing their shirt be penalised?

I'm a women's season ticket holder. We go along to games when they fall on a weekend, my daughter and husband come along with me. We used to watch the men's team before my daughter was born but it's too expensive these days. We get the same highs and lows as we would watching the men's game on tv.

And yes, we can name the players too. My daughter's favourite is between Becky Spencer and Chloe Morgan as she wants to be a goalkeeper. We're all impressed by Ash Neville, Lucy Quinn does funny things, and everyone is slowly getting their own song too.

I love the fact we haven't bought our way into the WSL (cough*manchesterunited*cough) and are doing okay too. I have a proper sense of pride, and love that the players all stop for autographs afterwards. The club hands out postcards of the players too at each game - though we're missing a few.

It would be great if we played at the lane more often. I get why not, but given the attendance vs Arsenal it must have generated a lot of cash for us - hopefully enough to break even.

I support them because they're Spurs but I can't say I'm more than a casual watcher of highlights and I follow them on social media. I won't say they're an equivalent to anything.
Can you name our women's squad?
I've picked up some names but far from all.
Should they playing at the Lane?
I think having them play in big bowls that they only quarter-fill or less is more damaging than helpful to the woman's game as it is today, but I hope this thing where derbies and other big games do get played at the big stadiums at discount prices so the place fills up is a very good thing.
Should the club divert funding from the men's squads to invest in our women?
This is the tricky one. I don't think funding needs to be "diverted" from the first XI's ambitions, simply because it doesn't take that much money to run a WSL club right now.
Investing in our male youth is a no-brainer since that feeds directly into our senior squad in a way that our women can never do (or - one day - will they?).
We should absolutely put some of our academy investment into girls football as well as boys. I'm not sure what other clubs do, or even what Spurs does now, but I'd love for us to create a proper academy for girls football as well, it'll massively help the women's game if we also took youth development seriously. Sure we wouldn't make much money off it as things stand but the profile increase would surely outweigh the finances in this case.
Should we be investing heavily now in order to get a first mover advantage and cement Spurs women in the big-4 (or whatever it's equivalent will be)?
It's a big three now and Man United seem intent on making it a big four sooner rather than later. The team has improved massively in recent years but I think the most important thing is to ensure the team stays competitive in the WSL and follows up on this season. In short, yes we should invest but we shouldn't think we can just go out and buy superstars from abroad on the back of a solid mid-table debut season. I'd much rather see us heavily invest in the apparatus around the women's squad and as I mentioned above an academy for girls which I think would be the best thing for us in the long run.
Should it be a separate forum on SC or intermingled with the men's forums?
No, I think a lot more people click on this thread and read it when it's in Spurs chat than they would if it were it's own sub-section on the site.
and most importantly, should celebrating a goal by removing their shirt be penalised?
Given some of the horrible sexist comments I appear to have made on this site in the Women's thread about 12 years ago I think I should refrain from answering this. :X3:

What a hit this was from the Arsenal loanee (who has thankfully updated her Twitter bio now so there are no Gooner colours on it)

I like what we're doing with the womens team. There was an Audi thing that popped up on my Facebook and it was kids being driven around the training ground, by team members such as KWP (yeah, I know), Dier, Lucas, Jan and one of the womens team players, whose name I shamefully cant remember.
The kids got to ask the players questions and boy, they didn't hold back.
One kid asked Dier how it felt to be subbed in the first half and another asked Lucas how it felt to be dropped for the CL final!
The womens player was asked what she thought of Arsenal, to which she screwed up her fave and said "I think my face says it all!".
All in all, it was a good little video, insightful and made me smile too.
Good to see the womens team getting more involved with this sort of thing.

I enjoy Women’s Football, I coach a girls team so have taken an interest but it generally just feels real because it’s a long way off perfect, a bit like non league.

Spurs Women are doing really well after getting into the division.

I’d say yes to a lot of the above. I love the women’s game. We should push on. Incredibly proud Spurs are in the top league now.
