I'll go.

King Harold of Kane scored his 20th CL goal against Olympiakos. He only needed 24 matches to score 20 goals, which is a new CL record.

Which player, who's record was 20 goals in 26 matches, was the previous record holder?

On their run to the final of the Euros in 1988, the Russians beat the Dutch, the English and the Italians (before losing to the Dutch again in the final). Yet they only managed a draw against Ireland, in part because one of the Irish players had a degree in Russian and used it to understand their tactical calls during the game.

Who was he?

I'm guessing Austria, who regained independence after the Anschluss in 1938.
