Great from Jose today, game by game he is trying to make things a little more solid.

Son tracking back more moussa covering the right.

Even against Olympiacos he was making dier close down higher up the pitch (not successfully)

Next is the middle of the park. Dier is not match fit, Jose will give him time but we have to start thinking of other options.

If by January if dier is still putting it in these performances we have 4 options, one is wanyama (I'd be surprised), next is Skipp (maybe), then eriksen/lo celso (more control and possession, my personal choice) then 4 we invest big on a DM (Jose's choice I imagine)

Ideal scenario dier gets his fitness and form back. I don't think the defence is a big issue.

But far better with a pro active manager. I'm enjoying Jose and his pressers.
We should go for matic in the January window.

I think privately Jose will be telling Daniel that we really need to spend in January if we want to finish top 4 this year. A DCM being the priority. And I hope it’s not Matic.

What’s wrong with matic for The short term. Jose knows him very well which means his strengths and weaknesses, premier league proven and can do a better job than Dier in that DM. Then in the summer we can go for a long term placement. I still like Thomas Partey. Mans a beast and we would be pl contenders next year with him in our side.

Because ...
1. He hasn't been good for a couple of years
2. He will be 32 in the summer
3. He will cost fairly serious money as January is a sellers market and Man U are a direct rival.

I agree with points 1 and 2, but his contract expires in the summer and they probably just want him gone now.

No way Matic is finished at this level

I'd definitely take Matic at the £15m rumoured. As far as I see it we have three real ball-winning DMs - Dier, Wanyama and Skipp. Wanyama is unfortunately shot, Skipp is promising but not ready for the biggest games, and that just leaves Dier which a) isn't enough and b) he may end up being used at CB with the Jan and Toby situations. Matic for 18 months to bridge the gap and come in as someone who already knows how to Mourinhoball makes sense.

We need a better top quality DM. Matic is not any better than Dier. We need to upgrade, not stay level. End of.

I am only thinking Matic for the short term. We can hunt for a long term DM in the summer but for the rest of the season he’s an upgrade on Dier and we can get him for a steal as his contract is up. I feeL we have a much better chance at top 4 this season with him protecting our back 4.

I think Foyth would be a better shout at playing as a CDM

What the others give us and Foyth not is experience. Something we probably lack a bit right now at the end. Not convinced myself the other two would be a solution but with Sanchez making one CB spot his own we could think of using Jan or Toby in another way.

But both TA and JV are fairly slow. It won't be that different from playing Dier there.

Not sure the CDM Jose wants needs to be super quick. He needs to sit comfortable in front of the back three and make good tackles. It is always good to be quick but I think other qualities are needed more on this role.

But, bizarrely, Jose has Dier wandering about all over the place when what he needs to do is sit, hold, keep things simple and not get caught out of position.
