We could have Dier and Wanyama in their prime and it wouldn't make a difference. The players in front of the full-backs so far this season, under both managers, haven't been doing a very good job. Sissoko was decent today at it - his defensing for the second goal was bad and he did somethin similar against West Ham last week - but Son was awful defensively again.
Son made more tackles than any of our players today. He was very good defensively. 6 tackles. Next highest was ndombele. Most of our lot had 1 or 2 max

We continue to at least show our biggest weaknesses through three games. Work needs to be done and it'll be (hopefully) clear to the coaching staff and Mourinho.

Still think we need strengthening in certain areas and some work needs to be done in January (just my opinion)

I'll take three wins from three, warts and all though. It's encouraging in some ways and hopefully is something to build on.

I think that's very generous. He had patches of the game, particularly just before HT, when he strolled about in his nonchalant way and was involved in some good passages of play ad looked classy, but for the most part it was quite the bag of bollocks I thought. Fucking about and losing the ball unnecessarily on too many occasions, and without the ball wasn't very effective.

We can all see he has quality, but nowhere close to putting it all together yet.

He gave the ball away with a weak pass that allowed Bournemouth to break before eventually giving away the free-kick that led to their first goal.

It's fine, just back from an injury and still getting up to speed but he can do a lot better.

Tackles ≠ good defensively. Most of those "tackles" were probably the lazy leg tackles.

It was a strange mixture of a game, from both sides. A lot of inspiring, intuitive attacking play, but incredibly sloppy. Their defence kept presenting us with the ball in the final third and we kept passing it to them in midfield. They kept missing the target and we kept wasting the final pass.

Ndombele's performance summed up the match: a virtuoso with the ball at his feet, aware of all his teammates, but repeatedly passing directly to Bournemouth players under no great pressure (as did Dier). Son could have had two goals and two assists, but made the wrong decision every time [except for the first goal, obviously]. Kane shot when he should have cut back.

And then our defence got the wobbles again with a 3 goal lead. I don't think it's a personnel problem. I think it's about mentality, teamwork and organisation. In each of our games under Mourinho, we have scored our 3-4 goals in succession and the opposition has scored its 2 goals in succession. That suggests that the defence is undergoing periods where it collectively loses concentration.

Until Bournemouth's first goal, we defended really well against a team that knows how to attack. There were multiple incisive moves from the opposition that were stopped with a well-timed block or clearance, with our defender first to the ball. Then they ... stopped. Just as they did against West Ham. It shouldn't be beyond Mourinho's powers of persuasion and tactical acumen to sort this shit out, without curbing the improvisation and inspiration of our attacking 4-5.

Agree. He's got incredible ability but constantly seems like he just picked up a knock and isn't firing on all cylinders.

Missed the game so summarise did we play well ? Except for the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes, yes. Defence midfield attack how were they? Attack = brilliant but wasteful. Midfield = incredible sloppy. Defence = played well for 70 minutes and then stopped concentrating and started flapping. Why did we concede 2 again? See last answer.
how did dier and ndombele play? Dier pedestrian, Ndombele dribbled brilliantly and passed sloppily.
Did sissoko play RAM? Yes.
Did we sing any mourinho songs? Not that I heard. And please learn to spell our manager's name. :sneaky:

If we can have a bit of that boring play everyone spoke about when we signed Jose, maybe I could stop having to watch our matches within 3 foot of a toilet.

If he can get the best out of out attacking talent, which it looks like hes more than capable of doing, but add in the tactical nous and ability to kill a game off we may well step up to a completely different level.

Our game management lets us down massively and this is one area out new leader excels in, so fingers crossed he can mix the magic of our attacking play with the tactical nous of closing a game out.

So far so good though!

Fantastic to see a genuine high quality Sissoko goal. Personally I don’t think incidents like the Cook handball should be a pen, but given the way handball has been reffed in the last 12 months I don’t see how it wasn’t given. The lack of consistency is maddening (and has gone against spurs pretty much every time)

Definite handball. Throws himself to make himself bigger to stop a ball, arm out. Had his arm been tight against his body then that is another story.

Which is normal. Tackles are not the same as being good defensively. Defending is 80% positioning and decision making.

It's great to see some direct goals being scored. It's all well and good building from the back and passing it about prettily but if if you can't mix that up with some route one stuff now and again then you just make yourself one dimensional and easy to set up against.

Sissoko's was a peach ?
