You have to remember the reason for offside. And who the hell is Dominic Toretto? ??

We are so exciting going forward, but when under attack I get all the same feelings but in reverse.

What’s up with Dier, his speed/fitness is terrible, it leaves us so open?

I find it pretty ideal that January is around the corner because we're giving Dier the chance to get up to speed. He's already got 5 starts under his belt and between now and nearer the end of January he's been given more than a fair opportunity but it also gives us the chance to explore the market and see if we can get an upgrade.

The problem with the defense is a combination of a wobbly mentality and the lack of protection from midfield, IMO. I trust that Jose will sort out the former, but we'll need to invest in a top DM to fix the latter. It needs to happen in January.

Good result, wasteful with the ball and leaky at the back.

Bournemouth got in on us far too easily.

We need to look after the ball a bit better, bit more patience.

The score could have been 7-6 either way.

Can't play every 3 days though and be at his very best over the course of a long season and all the other competitions
At 30 he should be able to. Ramos is 33, Bonnucci 32, Pique 32, Thiago Silva 35. All of them play pretty much every game. Maybe we need to adjust our system, or maybe they are tired out or have simply dropped down a level. But 30 is still the prime of a defender, even Jan should have a few more years of top level football in him.

I don't think Toby is playing well, he has had a few bad patches in his time here, something most people tend to ignore or pass the blame to someone else. But he is still a very capable defender.

In any case our defensive problems are team problems not individual ones. Simply buying new players won't solve the issue, we need to change the way we play and the mentality.

One of the issues is also that our defence has to adjust to being one which was built for a high press possession based football. It will take time to adjust away from that. Understand the new risks and what is required during 90 mins.

Didn’t go today , thought we played great, loads of movement up front, we seemed to let them come on to us deliberately so we could break 4 v 4 often. Defence was decent apart from an occasional lapse. Excellent performance all in all. Dier was good as well, only going to get better.

I reckon it would as would mean we’d dominate midfield a lot more and means opposition would see less of the ball.

We were solid enough defensively before when Son was playing left side.

That 2016/17 with Wanyama-prime in midfield he was often one of the best performers in team and we were tonking
teams second half of that season.

Decent defensive midfielder and one of Ndombele, Lo Celso or Winks to nail spot alongside them.

Also not forgetting Skipp if given a chance on defensive midfield.
We had full-backs that do do the job of two men and a team that worked harder in general back then. We don't have that at the moment, and the game has moved on since anyway.

I spent most of the first half watching it on the train home and then missed a small portion but it seemed to me that for a large part of that half that Ndombele was the one in the hole as opposed to Dier. I think it was tweaked second half but that first half was interesting but not what i'd personally prefer. Although there's a growing trend to leave your most formidable passer in the hole as opposed to your most defensively astute, though City and Liv have the benefit of their DM being a good passer.

Defence aside, my main complaint is our final ball on the break. At least 4 or 5 times Son, Dele or Sissoko overhit routine passes on the edge of the Bournemouth box when we were on the break in brilliant positions. We just pissed away good chance after good chance. We really can't afford to keep doing that.

We could have Dier and Wanyama in their prime and it wouldn't make a difference. The players in front of the full-backs so far this season, under both managers, haven't been doing a very good job. Sissoko was decent today at it - his defensing for the second goal was bad and he did somethin similar against West Ham last week - but Son was awful defensively again.

I think Son started off well defensively but I've seen the same thing happen now two weeks in a row. We get to 3-0, mentally we start to switch off, but at the point where as a team, I presume are instructed, we sit back and decide to protect what we have is the same time where, however good they have been for the first 60-70 mins, on the left side Son and Alli switch off and desert their defensive duties (and today started wasting counter attacks late on) and on the right side Aurier and Sissoko switching off and getting caught out of position and making errors. When you throw in Dier being anonymous, Moura works hard when the ball is in his vincinty but has no positional discipline when it comes to tracking back, and Lo Celso feeling his way into new surroundings on top of that its asking for trouble. If you're going to sit back it has to be as a unit, having a couple of counter attack options yes, but you cant just be sitting back and inviting pressure and only five or six players actually contributing defensively. Whatever the scenario, score, stage of the game, you will run into trouble.

People will say his injuries have taken it's toll but the harsh truth is that he's been pretty awful for 2 and a half years now.
Have to agree with this. Was a fan of Dier for his first couple seasons but he is currently woefully of the pace and seems to have really lost his way. A quality DCM in front of the back 4 would do wonders for us I believe.

We should, if jose can see that dier isnt good at all. And if levy is kind enough to spend
We can only hope that the winner of 25 major trophies, across the 3 best leagues in world football, has somehow got your insight into player qualities.
It's a long shot I know, but fingers crossed. ?
