Mandzukić is not registered to play in CL this season, he is yet to feature in Serie A. Only doubt I have about him is his fitness. But his experience, mentality and - above everything else - shithousery is what we need.

and a lot of really bad ones, long way to go before we can say he is all of a sudden our answer at RFB
True, never said he was.

My post was about January. If we can get the likes of Aurier and one of our left backs performing to a decent level for the rest of the season and Jose can find a right blend for mid then our need to spend in January is lessened.

Would much rather we buy quality rather than be forced to buy out of necessity.

For those interested, Sporting play PSV in the Europa League tomorrow at 8pm. It should be a good game as a win will take PSV above CP who are currently top with 9 points. Apart from Fernandes who seems to be very high, if not at the top, of our transfer list, PSV have some great players to keep an eye out for such as Bergwijn, Malen, Doan and Dumfries.

I don’t think we should sign Dumfries unless we sign someone called Galloway as well.

I think what Scousers have is where we should be aiming for, they have set the bar. Either Foyth or Aurier could be the back up RB as I cant see Aurier ever reaching that level. I think its good that Jose has brought out the best in him but his aggression in the tackles, penalties and brain farts are something I dont think can be coached out of his as thats his instinct, but he does have speed.

While Foyth is a good ball player and defender, he doesn't have the speed that a good FB should have, decent back up tho and versatile.

Do people think Foyth could play right back that becomes part of back 3 in possession while Sessegnon could be the further advanced player like Aurier has been? Basically flipping the set up?

Foyth has been playing RB for his national team for some time now. He isn't slow by any means. BUt not Lucas fast. I think he's a real solid option and would love to see him continue in that role. The nice thing is he's not afraid to take people on as he ventures forwards - Atal eat yer heart out.

Sticking Foyth at CB or in a back 3 is risky.

Hakim Ziyech is proving he's a genuine world class talent. If we're in for a new "attacking" player, he should be at the top of our list. Since he's primarily a pacy, skillful right winger but can play the 10 he'd fit perfectly into our current system. I personally think he'd be an even better option for us than Bruno Fernandes (who I still really, really rate), as BF is primarily just a number 10 (or a very attacking 8) which we already have plenty of cover for with Dele, GLC, and even Lamela. Ziyech would be a guaranteed starter for us on the right wing (sorry Lucas).

Even though arguably our most pressing need going into January is a DM if Dier can't make the position his own, I think we might have to wait till the summer to snap one of our first choices up. Who do you all rate at DM? The top 3 on my shortlist would be Ndidi, Neves, Zakaria. Ndidi is world class and would be my top choice. Absolute monster. But we can rule out a move for him in January for obvious reasons (hopefully Leicester will implode and we can take their CL spot and revisit him in the summer). Zakaria is also a beast, but his agent has already ruled out a move in January (another one to potentially revisit in the summer). That leaves Ruben Neves, who I believe we could have a shot at. Being both Portugese and a Jorge Mendes client, I think Jose could get in Neves' ear about joining Tottenham. The speculation and potential departure of Nuno could play to our advantage here as well. If this doesn't happen in January, I definitely think Neves is one to keep an eye on in the summer. A midfield of Neves and Ndombele might be the most exciting on the planet.

Marc Roca is another player I think we'll definitely be watching come January. He's a brilliant player with a 40m release clause that I can see being triggered by a club that needs surgery in midfield. Bayern had serious links to him in the summer, but I'm not sure if they'll revisit him in January after they've since discovered Kimmich is not only a world class RB but also a world class DM :greyalien:

Whilst both excellent at picking out attack minded passes, I'm not sold on the idea that a midfield pairing of Neves and Ndombele would be adequate relating to the defensive side of the game.

That's not to say I'd be adverse to Neves in our squad, and most certainly rate Marc Roca.

Fair argument - if we're looking for a real physical bully like Ndidi or Zakaria Neves might not be the answer. However, Neves is such a great shooter and distributor of the ball that I think the defensive side of his game is actually quite underrated. He's not small at 6'0" and reads the game very well. He averaged 2.1 tackles and 2.1 interceptions in the league last season. From what I've seen of Wolves, he's pretty much been their deepest lying midfielder ahead of their back 3 with Moutinho playing further up the pitch as more of a traditional 8. He'd have a similar role in our system shielding our quasi-back 3 in defense. I'd certainly compare his defensive contribution to Roca's.

If Leicester were back down in mid-table then we might have more of a chance of signing some of their players. They would still be expensive but the draw of Spurs, along with Mourinho, could've probably swung it. However, with them in the top 4 and looking good there is almost no chance of getting Ndidi, Chilwell or Pereira mid-season. Certainly not Maddison. If Leicester tail off at the end of the season and end up outside of the European spots (unlikely) then there will be a higher chance of getting 1 of their players next summer.

IMO Chilwell is going to end up at City. Ndidi and Pereira would be the two I'd like us to target next summer.

The reality is that if we're going to sign anyone in January then it will most likely have to be from abroad. I'd be targetting those players with expiring deals along with players at big clubs that are unhappy or not getting game time.

According to The Mirror, Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract with SP and his buyout clause just went up from 20 million euros to 85 millions. I guess that transfer is out of the question then..
