The revisionist history from Chelsea fans and United fans is wild. He’s won a PL, 2 league cups and a European trophy in 4 years between the 2 clubs. Getting that United side to win 2 trophies was a miracle. They were fucking shit(And still are btw). Yeah it all goes sour by year 3 but jesus if we can win 2(!!!!!!) trophies in that time it would be an unbelievable success.

He's the best of their post-Fergie managers.

Longest time in charge, too.

That rebuild post-Fergie is at 6 and a half years and counting.

Assume all of these comments are from immediately after the announcement and before the West Ham game?

Kane didn't look isolated at all. In fact, more involved than he had been for months. Odd for Chelsea fans to believe that and not remember how they played with Drogba and Costa. Particularly when they had Robben and Duff. The similarity with using Son and Moura in those roles is an easy link to make. Lampard/Alli (or Eriksen). Then again, it's rare for opposition fans to be positive at moments like this. Just have a look at the Arsenal Mania posts before and after...

This one:
'I think he'll surprise a lot of people at Tottenham unfortunately. United was a mess long before he got there and he won the title with us before that. When he's got top strikers he tends to do very well and Harry Kane might be the perfect Mourinho-striker. I actually fear them in the top-4 race again.'

sounds a bit more, er, sensible. As if they've stepped out of the rivalry bubble for 30 seconds.

Fair point about the match in December being huge, Hopefully JM and his team have enough time to sort out the defence ahead of that match.

Yeah, there weren't any comments after the West Ham match. The thread got pretty quiet from Saturday morning.

From a Bayern forum in English

Mourinho is the new Spurs manager

Glad we dodged that bullet.

he will be our opponent very soon...

Mourinho's CV is going to be awesome regardless of results - Benfica, Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham.

But I'm quite surprised the Portuguese has decided to lead a club such as Tottenham, it also means something when you no longer lead a club that spends 200-300 mil € per summer transfer window.

We'll see how this is going to work.

Pochettino won't be too long without job. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern and Arsenal are one of the clubs that need or may need coach during or after this season.
:)

The only thing I know is that the Argentinian isn't going to be Barcelona coach.
:D

Some things never change in football.

Mourinho is the 2nd best paid coach in football, only Guardiola is better paid per year(23.333.200 million €).

Incredible how expensive he still can be and a cheapskate such as Levy decided to empty his bank account for the Portuguese.

From RAWK

He's a checkbook manager who rots every club he goes to from within.

He will win fuck all with Spurs.

I'm not sure any of this is really true. He spent big at Chelsea of course, who wouldn't when you've got a Russian oligarch for an owner, and he spent a lot at the mancs which they've been doing with or without him, but he didn't buy his way to silverware at Porto, Inter or arguably Real. For all the talk of him destroying clubs, Chelsea have won titles shortly after he has left multiple times and Real and Porto seemed to do fine without him. The mancs have been a mess but they were a mess before he arrived, and his failure there seems to be as much to do with player power as anything else, in fact they still have that problem with Pogba there.

He's not going to rebuild a squad on a budget but then that's not what he's been hired for, he's been hired to take a strong squad that looks burned out/disillusioned and try to win some trophies with them before someone else has to come in and rebuild them.

I don't like him, for all the talk of how nice he is outside of football I don't think you can act as big of a prick as him without actually being a bit of a prick, but he's been successful wherever he's gone.

While the CL at Porto was punching above his budget, they are hardly skint at their domestic level and he absolutely did spend plenty at Inter and Real, the spending at Inter was why they had fuckall to spend even after sales when Rafa went there.

Most of the spending at Inter was offset by selling Ibrahimovic, and at Real they spent much bigger before he arrived (Ronaldo + Kaka) and after he left (Bale). Italian clubs in general have struggled financially so I'm not sure you can pin Inter not spending much totally on him, and even if you could then I'm sure they'd do it all again if they could since he won so much with them.

I really don't see him needing to spend much at spurs to be successful, his one problem area is probably defence if he can't convince one or two to sign new contracts, but even then he's always been pretty good at setting teams up to protect the defence.

I don't see him making spurs title challenges, not as long as us and City continue to dominate, but I wouldn't rule out him winning a cup or two and getting them back in the top four next season.

He's one of the most successful managers in the game.

He WAS one of the most successful...

A bit of a circus you say, that suits Mourinho then with just a little bit of cheating with the last two:

C-helsea
I-nter
R-eal
C-helsea
U-nited
S-purs

When did he stop being one of the most successful managers? Did they take the trophies back?
:D

Jose's tactics were 10 years out of date at man u, thats now 11 years, wheres the fire?

Yep for sure! I was actually thinking about Spurs and Leicester's teams as I replied last night, and granted, I don't watch enough of these teams games to have a really accurate view on it, but as of this season, there is not many Spurs players I'd have in one of those dreaded combined 11 teams.

Defence wise, i'd honestly take the whole of the Leicester defence and goalie, certainly both full-backs and Soyuncu, Alderwereld is the only Spurs defender that may make it on current form (and I'm not sure he would?).

I'd take Maddison over Eriksen this season too, being as Eriksen's mind seems very much elewswhere. Probably a decent shout that Ndidi and Tielemans would be first choice in the midfield too. Kane or Vardy? Vardy is having the better season so far.

Son is one of the very very few Spurs players I think at this moment, who would be in as a definite first choice!

Of course, we'll see what happens over the next few weeks, and if Mourinho can light a rocket up their collective backsides. Because there are a lot of good players in that Spurs squad, it just all seems very flat and stale there at the moment.

As annoying as the Daily Mail is, Oliver Holt's last piece on shitcoat got it completely right. Mourinho is probably the best kind of dinosaur there is, and yet he's stilla dinosaur. His attacking coaching is probably non existent, and soon enough we'll see the same signs there have always been when he starts losing: siege mentality, blaming referees, blaming his owners, referencing the fact that everyone else has an unfair advantage, losing his dressing room, etc. etc.

With him, it actually is groundhog day: he even came to his first Spurs interview to say he's the humble one and being all smiles, EXACTLY like he came to chelsea on his second stint after the shitshow that that real madrid dressing room became, and he called himself the happy one back then.

Now that the Special Once is back....every day there will be articles and stories on him.

Interesting that he was second choice.

Spurs originally approached Leicester for Rogers... who said no

Brendan probably wasn't that interested to be honest. Yeah, might have better pay, but it's not like he's skint after his 2015 payoff and he's currently trying to get himself on to a bigger shortlist than Tottenham Hotspur to be honest. In effect, if Pep walks to Juve at the end of the season, he'd want that job and not be stuck at Spurs.

Now that the dust has settled and initial shock is over, I actually think Mourinho would do well with their squad.

For the rest of the season it's likely he will. However, if Tottenham's players had enough of Pochettino just you wait until the 'Us against the world' shtick sets in and Levy is giving him crumbs to spend. The same things we've always seen out of Mourinho will rear their head again. He's simply not capable of change and Tottenham are setting themselves up for a shit sandwich having to wait him out for 3 years or pay him a fortune to leave. Huge mistake.

It suits him better than United because Spurs have been quite compact and don't have to have thrilling attacking football. I feel for Son though because he's actually decent and I fear he will get ruined.

What annoys me is that we still have to play them and I don't think we're likely to get past that particular bus. But then same goes for Man City potentially.
Why? He's a great counter-attacking player. Mourinho can work with those

All the win %’s being over 50 is jarring. They’ve been shit since Fergie retired. Mourinho being close to 60% is a minor miracle with that side.

Most of the opposing fans are hating this appointment saying it will only end badly. Seriously, thank you captain obvious. Everyone knows it will but he wasnt hired to last long. He was hired to win a few trophies and he has a great track record of doing so.

His reigns end because the players get tired of shit. Fair enough. But most of those squads had huge egos and those dont contest well with an egomaniac such as Mourinho. Pogba’s ego is so huge it doesnt match up with his play. Jose should have fucked him off like Pogba wanted and replaced him. He might still be there had he done that. Instead, he made Pogba captain. That was never going to end well. Chelsea, well, they ran off 2 other managers since they ran off Mourinho the 2nd time.

My managerial preferences before the latest turmoil...

1. Keep Poch
2. Jose
3. Rafa
....

52779. George Graham
52780. Tim Sherwood
52781. Dissolve Tottenham Hotspur as a PLC and football club, dismantle the stadium and sell the iron for scrap, paint Bill Nic's gates red
52782. Brendan Rodgers

They're all telling themselves it will fail because deep down they really fear JM making Spurs truly successful, which is definitely a real possibility.

And if he does manage to win a pot or two with us before it goes tits up, the next manager will see our infrastructure, that we spend some money (even if not the annual gorging the oil clubs partake in) as Jose will have demanded and that the club has a recent history of winning.

If Jose can even manage a couple of cups, the profile of the next manager we can attract will be better.

Poch was a very promising young coach who was getting furtive glances from others before us but the talk of Barcelona and Bayern was not close to happening. The next manager we could attract would be in those sorts of discussions.

No wonder the rest are hoping it goes tits up long before the 3rd full season. It would make their clubs' lives that much harder.

Big if though of course.

It certainly has got them animated hasn't it? I reckon all that bluster conceals a deal of concern. The Chelsea fans really don't like him for coming here like he's betrayed them but they seem to ignore the fact that they sacked him, twice!

A line from one of the West Ham posts caught my attention:- "Mourinho will give them that nous and nasty streak to win a trophy" I really hope he's right.:)

Wow, JM has the 2nd highest win % in UTDs history and only 3 managers have won more, of which the shortest serving was there 6 1/2 years longer.
Yep, and was an abject failure according to many pundits, fans, and even some posters on here.

No Greek updates?

This from ArseMania:

There are two types of managers.
There are the get you good managers. These are managers that you give them a certain squad they will be competing to get top 4, winning pointless mid season trophies but they will never win a league or the champions league because they don't have a plan B, when the elite managers come to town the get you good manager is incapable of adapting.

Then there's the get you over the hump. This type of manger usually takes over teams that sack the get you good managers and after a few tweaks they start winning the big ones.

Poch is a get you good manager
Jose is get you over the hump manager.

Tottenham have brought the right man for the job. So you all can carry on laughing when Sp**s will be lifting the big ones. While we will be drowning in the muck with the rest of the mid-table clubs.

Personally I think this 3rd year blow out is a little overstated, Namely because he left Porto and Inter on highs and I think we're more comparable projects with them than the likes of United/Real. Chelsea is a strange one because they were not a big club when he joined in stature but they had the expectations of one. There was big projects waiting after Porto/Inter, I don't really see what he will have available which will be better than us if he does achieve success with us.

It’s just something to lazily throw around. Like you say there’s different circumstances around why he’s left every club. Besides nowadays when do managers (other than Poch) stay that Lon at clubs. They just don’t.

From January but the context is there.
