A bit disappointing he won’t push for the move. Speaks to a decent character, but there’s no point keeping management at your club if their heart’s not in it, as we found with Poch.

Sounds like he’ll come in the summer if we want him. Doesn’t stop him speaking to Jose in the meantime “as friends”.

Yeah, I still worry that our current chain of command for recruitment is not fit for purpose and may lead to immediate tensions. I can’t believe that Levy can’t see that it’s the main reason for the collapse of the previous regime. I think he’s got too many comfy ‘yes men’ around him who don’t tell him the uncomfortable home truths.

Very excited by the prospect of Campos. Could be a real game changer for us. I said earlier in the thread that if we're going to switch to that system then we can't half arse it, we need to go all out for one of the elite few. He certainly fits the bill for me.

But surely we want him doing the legwork for us now ready to sign players in the summer.

If he is leaving is there any benefit to Lille having a Sporting Director who is definitely leaving? Surely he wouln't advocating them signing players that he might want for us.

Agree. Given that it's very much a long-term planning type role, it makes no sense to keep someone on who you know wants to leave because the mere fact that they're considering other options is a fundamental conflict of interest

Especially if we come in for one of their players...

Didn’t Lilles coach just come out today/yesterday and say Campos wasn’t leaving and they have a big project to see out together? I don’t think this will happen soon but maybe more likely towards the summer.

I feel like we need this signing now for mourinho to work well.

we need to identify players at a much earlier stage as we cannot compete with the really big clubs.

campos is part of this and we need strategy and focus now to identify the players we need in January and the summer.

it also gives us someone other than levy doing negotiations which should speed things up.

summer would be too late imho.

I don't see why he can't identify players now, they don't need to be in the same room to be in dialogue, he could still be communicating with Mourinho over the next few months before he moves for example.

Don't see the big deal whether he moves now or Summer, hell still be doing the same job regardless.

Agree that he doesn’t need to be on the books to be highlighting potential signings to Jose, he’s clearly already passed him details fo the coaches we’ve taken on, but you’d think Lille would see a conflict of interests currently. Their sporting director has virtually handed over two key coaching staff to another club, and come out and said he wants to join Mourinho too.

Can this model work in a club of our stature? These kind of players get game time at clubs like Lille.
We can't even manage game time for the established players we already have.

Exactly Lille May speak about a big project but they’ve just lost half their backroom staff. Plus who knows how instrumental Sacramento actually was in that success. And as said campos doesn’t need to be in the building. Cheeky text to his mate Xyz go get him. In theory transfers should be a lot easier with Mourinho. His contact list is ridiculous, I feel Pochettino wasn’t big on wheeling and dealing he hasn’t even got an agent himself.

I am not an attorney but that sounds like a massive conflict of interest. You would suspect that is likely a breech of contract and could result in a personal law suit. Perhaps an attorney could speak to this.

I think it may be at least be a factor in Mourinho‘s sudden change of character that it’s not only the club, fans and the media he needs to get on side but players we may be interested in. I don’t know hw eager players are to play for him - there have been a fair few who wouldn’t play for him again. tHis reputation has been shredded after fairly humiliating experiences at his last couple of clubs, by the end of which he’d just sunk into near irrelevance, while Klopp and pep took the limelight. He’s a really astute, intelligent bloke and I think he spent his time out of football analysing how to resurrect things on a personal level. I think he knows we as fans are going to be very mixed on him and is managing that. I actually find it quite impressive how sharp he is compared to most. With all the snide petulant and downright repulsive behaviour over the years that he actually has these qualities in abundance has been a bit lost.

Levy being too controlling re recruitment has to change unless we want to spend years obsessively chasing the next downing, jenas and davies (might be wrong but pretty sure he was fixated on them).

Of course but that only if Lille can prove it to be the case.

Nothing is stopping him personally communicating with Mourinho away from work albeit a text or a phone call, it doesn't need to be that complicated.
